I feel ridiculous having had a break down over a book. And this isn‘t in the usual manner. What‘s the point of preordering a book if 2 weeks go by and you still don‘t have it and it hasn‘t been sent out. Waterstones refuses to answer me and now even the publication company won‘t answer my enquires about it, if it‘s been delayed let me know. I am so close to canceling this book and NEVER reading it because of this ordeal.

laurenslibrary How frustrating! I hope it gets worked out soon. 2d

Has anyone preordered with Waterstones before? This is my first time ever using them and I placed this preorder months ago and the book was released on the 3rd of October yet mine still hasn‘t been sent out, as you can see it‘s claiming Awaiting Publication, it‘s 2 weeks past the publication date, is this normal for them, or do I just have that much bad luck in my life that I can‘t get any books I‘m excited for in a decent time frame.

DuckOfDoom You could either write them, or maybe it's possible that the book is delayed? I am from Germany but order sometimes from Waterstones and I have never had a problem. 5d
Sweetkokoro @duckofdoom I sent them email and they said it could take 7-10 days before I hear a reply :/ So I was curious about others experience with them. I don‘t think it was delayed as there are posts on Instagram of stores displaying the books, so I‘m just really confused. 5d
DuckOfDoom I hope you get your book soon!!! I hate random waiting, too, especially when I know other stores already have it 5d
Sweetkokoro @duckofdoom Thanks, I hope so too. The softback Edition is already sold out and I haven‘t seen it in my local B&N store, so I‘m worried in many ways haha. But hopefully they come through and I get my book. 5d

I am so confused how I originally had all these books on three shelves but now that I‘m redoing the whole thing and spreading them out I‘m almost out of space.. what is this trickery.

Also I don‘t like organizing by author, I keep skipping letters and I frankly don‘t like the unevenness off all my book sizes XD

LibrarianRyan I completely get that. 1w
Branwen "What is this trickery" *dies laughing* ?? 1w
DuckOfDoom I sort with book height. The IKEA Billy shelves have configurable height and this way I can squeeze in at least 1 shelf row more 1w
Sweetkokoro @duckofdoom Yah that Billy‘s cases are my goal shelves to get just have to budget them in. I ended up going with book type, height, and alphabetical order by author. It‘s so much more pleasing now 1w

@Branwen My BOTM finally showed up.

I am so excited to read this, I have been waiting for months for its release since I stumbled upon it on Goodreads. I feel a little special knowing I have it earlier too since it comes out next month, this is as close to an ARC I have ever had (I have never had an ARC) the only thing irking me about this copy is that logo for BOTM why couldn‘t it be a sticker, I‘ll admit I‘m a cover snob and that ruins it DX

Branwen I'M SO GLAD YOU FINALLY GOT IT! WHOO HOO! 😀📚💕 1w
Sweetkokoro @branwen I am happy I got it too, and the way they ship their books is nice, the box was all mangled so I was worried but they put in the air tight plastic with a larger cardboard piece under it so the book was undamaged, so they get points for that. Their shipping time, not so much lol. 1w
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Hahahaha! Yeah, I'm still super surprised about how long it took! 😦 1w
Sweetkokoro @branwen Yah, im hoping it was a fluke, and I‘ll give them another shot just to be fair. 1w

Well my first use of Book of the Month isn‘t looking to bright nor promising for me to keep paying for the service. This is the last update I have received for my package which still isn‘t here, it‘s been 7 days and the person I emailed on BOTM said shipping is 3-5 days (since their site doesn‘t actually list it anywhere) so hopefully it turns up soon I could use some good book mail in my life about now. :/

Branwen AAAAAH! I'm so sorry it is taking so long! 😢😭 I feel so awful! Mine came in only a few days! I wonder what the delay is? 🤔 1w
Sweetkokoro @branwen no need to be sorry I don‘t blame you, it‘s not your fault. I messaged them and they responded with saying their shipping service is 5-12 days which is really long if you ask me (and they should really put that on their site some where) It literally just sitting in Vegas for 5 days now according to the tracking. They won‘t do anything else until after 12 days :/ 1w
Branwen @Sweetkokoro That's so ridiculous! 😲 5-12 days is a really long time! I've been a member for three years and it's never taken that long! 😣 1w

Branwen @Sweetkokoro Maybe I've just been really lucky this whole time? I usually see my box a week at the latest after ordering. I feel really bad. I hope it comes soon! 🤞📚💕 1w
Sweetkokoro @branwen Yah 5-12 days is just ridiculous I figured standard shipping like most places of 5-7 (my mail place doesn‘t even list a 5-12 option lol so that‘s just weird) Hopefully it was a fluke this time around for me, I‘d like to give them another chance, but if it‘s not here tomorrow I‘ll be contacting them again. 1w

I keep re-reading sentences and paragraphs and Im still not understanding. It‘s making it frustrating to read. I want to like this, I like the caste system idea but I don‘t get why it‘s not making any sense to me.

This was such a let down. I had my hopes up for it, it sounded so cool but it ended up being nothing. The monster part barely exists it‘s in the beginning and the end but the middle just becomes this weird romance story, and it just like happens there is no reason or build up for it, then there is magic, tales of gods and revenge it just starts going in so many directions, It was a mess.

So I get these notifications from google books all the time about current Ebook deals and I have this horrible habit of buying all the free ones XD hahah. But I‘m not a huge fan of reading on my phone (I don‘t have have an e-reader) but slowly its growing and I‘m starting to question my self why I keep doing this haha. Does anyone else have this issue or am I just weird haha

LibrarianRyan Nope, I have that problems at time. I stopped opening the emails, or only allow myself to open one a week. 3w
Clwojick I do the same!!!! I‘ll read maybe 15- 20 ebooks a year, and yet somehow I have over 800+ on my iPad. 🙈 3w
Sweetkokoro @librarianryan I usually open two or three a week but I need to just stop all together haha. @Clwojick I read like 1-2 ebooks a year just because it feels like it takes forever since my phone screen is so small compared to ereaders. Luckily I keep to the free ones. I would freak out if I had over 800+ ebooks haha 3w

Another wonderful read by Gaiman. This is a retelling I didn‘t know I needed in my life. The tale is completely flipped and I love it!! The art was gorgeous as well!

My sister said to say “Lots of nakedness going on man” haha. She did enjoy it as well, but she said the wording was a bit confusing but this was also her first Gaiman so I can understand that, I remember my 1st voyage into Gaiman was fun but a little confusing haha.

Some cute enamel pins I backed on Kickstarter. While I like them, im not super hyped for them anymore due to how long the creator took getting it all out. And then the final straw was her eco friendly packaging material bursting open all over my kitchen table, so not fun to clean up. Cute designs but frustrating process.

Sweetkokoro For the record I have nothing against eco friendly material, I am here for it, but cheap eco friendly material that completely falls apart and leaves a huge mess behind when simply opening them is a no go for me. 4w

So does anyone here know what an Interlibrary loan is? I requested my library get this book as its being made into a netflix movie and I thought that fact might help them in wanting to get it (as bird box had a huge influx after the Netflix show) but the request was denied (like all the other books I have requested at my local library to carry >_>) and I still don‘t understand how to use link+ and hey push that service like crazy.

bromeliad It's a van network that goes between a bunch of libraries in a single region. You sign on with your library card, request the book be available for pick up from your preferred library, and the van picks it up from a different city's library and brings it to your location. ☺️ It is super easy and helpful! 2mo
Sweetkokoro @bromeliad So I already do that with my local library network, does it go to libraries outside of my network? Because I have checked my libraries catalogue and the book isn‘t available in the 16 libraries that are associated with my card, which is why I requested they add the book to their catalogue. 2mo
bromeliad Ohhh. Yeah, either this is just the same thing on a larger scale, or it's a separate system, but is able to do drop offs at your preferred locations. Maybe you need to register for a new library card? I've had to do that sometimes. 2mo
See All 25 Comments
Sweetkokoro @bromeliad I just got the card this year, I‘m thinking with this being an automated response they don‘t realize I already checked their catalogue and none of the libraries have this book, because it‘s not in their catalogue. I wasn‘t even able to find it through hoopla or Libby, I‘m starting to feel like my library has a very small selection in comparison to other states/counties. 2mo
Sweetkokoro @bromeliad I figured it out, interlibrary is the circle of my 16local libraries and Link+ connects my card to libraries outside of my library circle and delivers them to my local library, so I was able to find the book finally! Yay! 2mo
bromeliad 🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
LibrarianRyan Yeah. I checked link and it was there. Also, if you ever find a book is not in you local library or link, you can ask (in person) for them to do a statewide or a national ILL (sometimes called an OCLC request). Some libraries are getting away from OCLC, but there are paper forms to request. They may ask for a small fee for shipping if they can not get it through their delivery system. 2mo
LibrarianRyan FYI, my guess is you library can not buy this book because of age (originally pubed 2002), that it‘s a British book and they can‘t get it through their jobber (library vendors), that they can only get it from amazon and they have a no amazon policy (more common than you think), or that they can only find used copies, which libraries rarely purchase. Don‘t be too down on you library as they are doing the best they can with what they have. 2mo
LibrarianRyan Also FYI, if it is a hit on. Netflix. , a movie tie in edition will be printed and then the library will probably pick it up. 2mo
LibrarianRyan Also because I can‘t help myself, many hoopla books (except comics) are not as prevalent because they cost the library more in the long run, and I checked, I couldn‘t order it for our ebook collection, it‘s not available. But being that it‘s a mcMillian, it would probably have a meter that the library can not justify for such an old title. 2mo
Sweetkokoro @LibrarianRyan that‘s a lot of info. And my library doesn‘t have a “no amazon” policy as they have a function that uses amazon it just has to be approved. It‘s hard to not get frustrated with my local library as their answer for most requests is normally no, and thats with talking to others who go there. And we don‘t seem to have the nicest librarians around here either :/ but I found it and hopefully they will approve the transfer through link+ 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro interesting. 2mo
Sweetkokoro @librarianryan My library also has from what I can tell one of the worst contracts with hoopla, we get 5 borrows a month (it used to be 3) with hardly any selection, im not too fond of hoopla honestly it very rarely ever helps me. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro Hoopla is play for play. It‘s not a contract limit. The library has to pay for each check out. 2.99-5.99 per audiobook, .99-2.99 per graphic novel, 3.99-7.99 per video, and I‘m not sure what ebooks are but I do know that many libraries shut off the ebook portion. Your library has full access to the entire hoopla collection, however between Amazon meddling with exclusive contracts, and publishers like McMillian putting embargos ⬇️ 2mo
LibrarianRyan On when they will sell ebooks and eaudiobooks to libraries, it limits what a library can add to its collection for example, Blackstone audio which is one of the larger audiobook houses, has an exclusive contract with audible for the first 6 months of a books release. No library can purchase those titles which includes its availability with Hoopla. ⬇️ 2mo
LibrarianRyan As for the number of items you can check out, this is done by averages. What actually happens is a library sets a budget, either day, month year, etc. and when patrons use Hoopla it adds up the charges until it hits the daily budget and then shuts its off. This Dailey budget is then compared to the number of users and a limit is set. If they didn‘t set limits just a hand full of patrons could blow the budget, leaving no one else access. 2mo
LibrarianRyan The Hoopla clock normally resets about midnight library time. My guy works nights so he checks his out at like one in the morning. If I don‘t check mine out before 10 am I normally have to wait til the next day. 2mo
Sweetkokoro @librarianryan I see. I still unfortunately find Hoopla unhelpful and useless :/ 2mo
LibrarianRyan Other library ebook systems are a price per copy use, like Libby. But those prices are really high, like $60-80 for the new James Patterson, etc. the. You have meters. Some like Scholastic are timed, use that ebook as much as you want for two years, but after 2 years you have to rebuy it. Or are metered to say 36 uses, then rebuy. But the. The embargo‘s come into play again. Tor and Macmillan have a new library policy that says a library may buy 2mo
LibrarianRyan One copy of a new ebook. They get to keep it forever. To buy any more copies they have to wait 4 months and then all those extra copies are metered. This policy just went into effect last month and more publishers are adopting similar policies. Most ebook collections at libraries are shared. For example, in central Illinois the Cloud Library portion of eReadIllinois has over 150 multi-type, varying population ranges, etc using 1 collection. The 2mo
Sweetkokoro @librarianryan Yup I read about that change Tor and Macmillan put in. I don‘t read ebooks often so it doesn‘t effect me. But I get it there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff I clearly I don‘t know about this... 2mo
LibrarianRyan Power of the collective is that they can add tons more books and variety to their digital collections, but then Are hamstringed by the publishers. Can you imagine 1 copy of the newest Red Rising book in a collection serving almost a million people? We libraries are fighting for access but we need help fro P.O. patrons to help in the fight. You have probably seen me say I am anti Amazon. This is part of the reason. For a glimpse check out this 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro there nothing wrong with finding it useless. It used to be better. But it‘s not Hooplas or you libraries fault. Blame Amazon and publishers. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro I love having this conversation because even some libraries don‘t pay attention to what is going on. It‘s a fight. It has been a fight. While the general public sees libraries as allies and doors, publishers see them as enemies and dungeons, and the reason they are not seeing profits. But it‘s the big guys turning the head of the publishers away from the real problem, and telling them to blame the little guy. 2mo

I have mixed feelings about this book. As an adult reading this I can understand the way the story ended in a creepy horror way. As a 12yr, I don‘t feel this is something they should read. It deals with bullying but the bully goes unpunished & the end makes it seem like Mary commits suicide because of the torment caused by the bully. And then its really unclear if Ella is murdered by the spirit of Mary or if by total freak lightning accident.

Sweetkokoro The ending just didn‘t settle well, and I know its unrealistic to think all bullying can be handled and taken care of, its the idea that a 12 committed suicide that is unsettling in the fact that it is possible. This is something i feel very few select kids could handle reading. They style of half comic half written was interesting. 2mo

Another failed YA fairytale retelling for me. I wanted to love this, I love the tale of Beauty and the Beast. But this was just so horrendously boring. It dragged on for so long. And then it become predictable, even down to the last few chapters when royal secrets were being reveled. Yah thats right I guessed them. I still came away only caring for Grey. Most likely wont be picking up the sequel.

Im officially bored with this book. 300 pages into this story and the “beast/creature” has only been present for one chapter and everything else has only been mention of the “beast/creature” I hate Harper, I hate how she constantly compares everything Rhen does to the hundreds of girls beforehand (not healthy by the way) Grey has slowly started to fade from the story until he is needed & he was the only character I really liked. Im just bored.

Leigh Bardugo is my favorite YA author. This a collection of short fairy tale inspired stories that she wrote as a Prequel to her Shadow and Bone trilogy. I like the way she went about this prequel, these are old stories told through the lands to the children she created in her world. The Solider Prince was my favorite, she said its inspired by the Velveteen Rabbit but you can also tell the Nutcracker helped inspire it too

Checked out B&N #bookhaul sale and was honestly really underwhelmed again. They seem to leave out adult Fantasy/Scifi readers for these sales & that sucks for readers like me. I was happy Priory of the Orange Tree was up as I have been wanting it badly. The art pulled me for A Monster Calls, Dry is one I have been wanting since I read it. And the kids books have been on my want list for awhile.

Sweetkokoro I will say though the bookhaul sales are great for kids books, (minus this go around all the Rick Riordan books was a bit much, yes they are good but like half the kids books were his books, mix it up a bit more B&N) The bookhaul is something they really need to work on to make it totally worth taking part in. Also no one was buying the cookbooks and biographies, people weren‘t even looking at that table Haha. (edited) 2mo
LibrarianRyan The book haul is a way for them to get rid of the over purchased book and make a little money rather than selling them to a discounter like BookOutlet. Most stores do not over by Sci-Fi fantasy, which is why there is hardly ever any to choose from. In my store it is rare they get more than 3 copies of a new Sci-Fi title. If you don't buy it when you see it you don't get it. 2mo
LibrarianRyan My store told me that they didn't pull titles that had only one copy. Which would probably be a lot of the sci-fi titles. You can look at the list online and see if there are any you missed and then pull them from the standard shelf. I had to do this for ALL the kids books I picked up. They had mainly just pulled Rick Riordian. 2mo

Sweetkokoro @LibrarianRyan Yah I pretty much figured thats what these bookhaul sales were, but I have learned from shopping at my local B&N SFF is the slowest moving category, their rotation hardly ever changes so a small part of me always hopes they would put some out to help move them out :/ and I don‘t really agree with that last statement I have put off buying SFF books for months (a whole year even) & was still able to grab them from my local B&N 2mo
Sweetkokoro @LibrarianRyan I checked online and the SFF selection was even small there. Its just a category that honestly gets snubbed at a lot during sales even for different stores and it just frustrates me. (months back my local HPB had their “bookhaul” sale and they didn‘t put up any SFF books unless it was YA) 2mo
LibrarianRyan @Sweetkokoro yikes. We must be a town of Scifi readers because the new stuff is always gone. The stand buys are always there or the sci-fi read by non sic do readers is always there. And big major series, but only the first books. The manga section is larger. And as I said for my store the new stuff is gone quick. 2mo

Pickpick

This MG book was actually very very good. Its classified as kids horror and boy does it fit! The monsters depicted in this tale are truly horrifying. The imagination that went into creating this world of monsters was so well thought out. I spent a lot of time being angry with Kestrel‘s mother (such a monster to her daughter) the end had a twist I didn‘t see coming at all but I loved it! This Is great for kids who love scary tales.

Pickpick

So as a big fan of King Arthur, its clear I wouldn‘t miss the opportunity to read any & all versions that deal with the tale. This MG book was adorable, you follow Cavall as he is taken in by none other then Arthur himself and once Cavall notices bad things are happening to Arthur he sets out a mission to save him! Cavall and the other dogs of the round table are adorable and heroic. A cute method for introducing kids to a “nicer” tale of Arthur.

My first ever bookhaul is only 7 months old! Thats how short of a time I have been here. And sadly I have not read a single one of these books yet, but I have set myself a new goal of reading from my never ending TBR pile. So maybe I can start with one of these haha.

Lcsmcat So you‘ve still got time to read these! Thanks for playing! 2mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai Every single one of those is on my hit list as well. 🤷‍♂️ 2mo

Mehso-so

This book falls at 3.5⭐️ for me. Im still not loving the series as a whole, & maybe thats because I just never really cared for The Greek God Apollo or its just something about this series is just underwhelming. The first 200ish pages bored me to death and I had to really push myself to read it. Once the action picked up, it got better, Meg surprisingly didn‘t bother me in the one, and I did get misty eyed over Jason. But still it was just meh.

@Nute Hello my Litsy Sister, I was just as thrilled when I found out one of the packages was from you! I love all of these bookmarks and the sentimental thought that went behind each one, makes them that much more special. I adore the Birdcage magnetic bookmark (I love birds) I will also be looking into that anthology on the the Scifi/fantasy bookmark. I am always reading past my “bedtime” so that is perfect for me! Thank you! #bookmarkswap

@LibrarianRyan I spazzed so hard when I seen The Unicorn bookmark (to which my daughter tried very hard to steal from me, she loves Unicorns just as much as I do) The felt and glitter book mark is super cute and so sturdy! I adore the Hulk so thank you for him! the Other glitter one is super cute! You are so crafty! And I adore the Lisa Frank Paper its so cute! #bookmarkswap

LibrarianRyan That is the last of my Lisa Frank Stationary. It only took me 25 years to use it all. 👍 😁 I agree. I love the sturdy glitter ones. I may make more of those the next time I get my Sewing machine out. 2mo
