This was my loose tracking for #Booked2019, so I apologize for the messiness but I wasn't terribly thrilled with the idea of redoing it and I know it should be posted soon. 😬 I haven't posted any of these yet so I do hope this method is ok? I'm uncertain if number 1 qualifies, do please lmk! The best ones here were 6,7,18 and 21.

BarbaraTheBibliophage This works fine for us to enter these books in the giveaway for this season. Thanks! And yes, your #1 is a perfect pick for that prompt. 👏🏻👏🏻📚📚♥️♥️ 4mo

#botm people, hopefully you can help me out. I want to cancel my month to month membership but I have this "extra book credit" that was from skipping the month. Does anyone know what happens when I cancel? Do I get to keep the credit and use it at another date or does it get refunded or does it just go away? Thanks!

laurenslibrary I'm pretty sure its a "use it or lose it" situation ? 6mo

Bird Box: A Novel | Josh Malerman
Panpan

The reason I read this #NewYearWhoDis was b/c of Sandra Bullock being in the movie. I hated Unbury Carol by this author and feel his writing is terrible and his dialogue laughable. The plot has huge holes and the MC was meek and mousy, which I really dislike. The author also has no clue about childbirth (women giving birth at same time due to women "sharing cycles" ??) or wolves or seemingly decent conclusion to novels.

I blame Sandra Bullock.

monalyisha Bahahaha. Sorry this one didn‘t work for you... but at least I‘m amused. 😆 6mo

britt_brooke @VeganCleopatra We will unite in our unpopular opinion. 🙌🏻 I don‘t get it either. Immediately, the plot holes were killing me. 6mo
britt_brooke Did you watch the movie? I haven‘t, and don‘t plan to, but it looks pretty awful. 6mo
VeganCleopatra @britt_brooke Ugh you could see the plot holes from freaking space. 🙄 I have not and probably won't. I'm not big on movies in general so watching one based on a book I didn't like? Meh. The only reason I would watch it would be Bullock. According to some stats online, something like 45 million people already watched it. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 6mo

Days Without End | Sebastian Barry
Panpan

I've been meaning to read a Barry novel for a very long time and then this popped up on my #NewYearWhoDis list and it was a perfect opportunity. Unfortunately I really did not like Barry's writing style, aka lots of rambling. The characters were one-dimensional, even the love of the MC's life, which is crazy. And other than one war scene after another, where was the plot? To be fair, books focused on the actual fighting of wars aren't my thing.

monalyisha Not my thing, either. My coworker just picked this up, though, & I was also intrigued. I like the cover. 🤷‍♀️ 6mo
VeganCleopatra @monalyisha Yeah his books always sound intriguing...I'm no longer intrigued. 😆 6mo

Initially I found the book charming but it quickly wore off as the book focused more on the father and characters other than the old woman and young boy. Ultimately the charm left with the boy and it made a book that was already longer than it should have been feel that much longer.

(Read in December. Already on my TBR.)

#friyayintro

cherinium In response to your comment on bailing, my hangup is FOMO. I always agonize over whether I will miss out on some amazing revelation or turn of events if I stop. I struggled through the tagged book (and almost bailed) until the twist was revealed. Then, I decided that Lehane was brilliant for being able to manipulate my mind. I also don't feel like I can offer a fair assessment if I don't finish. I DO bail more often than I used to, though. 11mo
VeganCleopatra @cherinium I get that but by a certain point if I don't care about the characters or plot then I don't care what the author comes up with by the end. IMO an ending isn't worth slogging through the rest. If I'm curious, I'll read the ending but generally have no FOMO haha. I've heard some people just HAVE to finish if they started a book, which seems like a terrible feeling to have if you aren't enjoying yourself. Life is too short for crap books. 11mo

#MakeMeReadIt I'm really tired of HF novels about women involved in science at a time period that it is unheard of to be reduced to a story about a man. The first third is slow character building and some fossils. The second third of this novel is entirely about the two women being jealous about a man. The last third tries to go back to fossils but feels off after all the man obsession. Authors please stop diminishing incredible women.

2 stars My second #MakeMeReadIt selection. I'm not really a short story person and this collection was no different. There were a few that were okay, like the time travel one, but overall I was bored. The inclusion of typewriters throughout failed to add the charm it was meant to for me as a reader. Overall I didn't find the collection to be compelling reading.

This was my first #MakeMeReadIt choice for August and I started a couple days early. Unfortunately I did not like this one. It was tedious and filled with unnecessary detail. Fletcher wrote a very atmospheric, compelling and beautiful novel about a difficult and brutal time period in Scotland. I loved Corrag and her connection to nature warmed by heart. I don't come across characters as memorable as Corrag very often and she will be fondly remembered by me. It is not a fast moving novel but one that focuses on characters, characters that are not only human but also animals and mountains. This is a new favorite.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book but I suddenly found myself invested in where the novel was going. The characters are fully realized and the plot read believable. I enjoyed learning about Jordan and "visiting" the ancient sites with Margaret. The military aspect is really only a reason for being in the country, the main focus is the relationships in the book, in all their messy glory.
