First read of 2024.
This was such a good read with so many powerful messages and insights. The narrative is neatly interwoven with anecdotes of the period giving you a glimpse of the horrors that happed during the holocaust. Yet the message about hope and strength is very clear. The world is full of cruelties but there is always some kind spirit around!!

tenar Hello, it‘s been a while and just returning the check-in favor! Had a chance to read anything, or is it still very busy for you? 3y
ishan0986 @tenar hey thanks for checking in 🤗. My college schedule leaves little time and energy for reading. I hope to have a better schedule and also post during the weekend. Once again thanks for checking in. 3y

Mehso-so

So this has sparked a lot of mixed feelings for me. It hovers between pick and so-so and finally settled for the latter. The concept and the imagination are really good but I feel it lacks the implementation. The main character is flawed which is nice, it makes them human to me rather just book heroes who are all mighty and strong. Coming to the harsh regime and the capitol I don't get how can they be so advanced with flying cameras, (continued⤵️)

ishan0986 genetic mutations, all healing medicines and yet on the other hand be so primitive as to let humans handle their precious resources like coal, agricultural goods and so on. Such regimes would not want to loose the precious resources on the account of human error. The parachutes are either invisible to other players or they are very small to be seen from afar. Could only make guesses at this point 3y
ishan0986 Haymitch is pushing for
the couples angle from the
beginning and seems to
know it would work, maybe
he knows something we don't know. The people are deliberately kept hungry and low on food rations so that their minds are always occupied with procuring food rather than revolting. Katniss is liked by all in the district the reason for which escapes me. Maybe due to her father. A little more facts about him would have been really nice.
3y
Scochrane26 I don‘t think Katniss is liked by everyone. Her dad was liked, I think. Her mom & sister are well-liked & respected because they heal people. 3y

Pretty happy with it though😁.

Scochrane26 @ishan0986 You will get sad. It‘s worth it though. I wasn‘t sad for days, but there‘s been some events that have stayed with me. Katniss is a flawed character, just stick with her. (edited) 3y

Amazing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
My #bookspin book done. This was one the most amazing books that I read in 2021. The characters are well written with a good depth. I really love war stories, strategies and stuff but the gut wrenching aftermath of it described with gruesome details is really heartbreaking. Still the book held on and kept me engaged. The main character did get on my nerves a lot in the beginning but soon enough it changed..
Continued... ⬇️⬇️

ishan0986 As soon i saw her perspective I could see then justification of her actions. The master dissappointed me a lot yet I just feel like rooting for him don't know why though. Being a trilogy a cliffhanger was bound to be present and it is quite a cliffhanger, i want to read the second part now. 3y

I have read a few books of the private series and wanted to read the #1, from where it all began and to be honest I was disappointed. The story lacks a lot of detail, no depth to anyone, jumbling between 3 cases becomes idiotic and the length of the chapters is simply horrendous. There are two chapter whose lengths are one single page.
I had read the other parts like 4-5 years ago maybe that's why they looked promising.
Overall 2/5⭐

My #doublespin book done. This was an okayish read for me. The story at times felt a little vague and not that much different from any other thriller or murder mystery. The technological points were highlighted but the protagonist always went for the laptop to search for every little thing. Bee had a very diminishing role up against the IQ she is presented with, which leaves more to be desired. Maybe she plays a bigger role in the sequel.

ishan0986 The detective is portrayed as strong-willed and full of resilience which is very nice to see, and the quick thinking which she posses is really awesome.
The profilers had very little to add throughout the entire plot and fail to see through the easy stuff especially towards the end of the narrative.
3y
ishan0986 The antagonist is true evil personified. The horrific abuse he went through in his childhood makes him a monster who kills innocent girls and has a special contempt towards the detective. The ending sucked big time. Could be seen miles before the last section began. I don't think I would continue the series.

These stories are very easy see throughs and easy to guess at. The original are far better and comprehensible. If we isolate these form them even then these stories don't stand there ground, the only respite is that these are quite short and can be read very quickly. Instead of reading these read the original ones. I actually have a habit of re-reading the original stories and novels after very couple of months.

I had high hopes for the story but it fell short of it. Mostly because the many twists were clear see-throughs, many questions were unanswered or rather had really vague explanations and in some cases none at all. The vagueness of breakins and killings is too uncanny for the level of depth percieved. It is surely intriguing and gripping but it is too shallow at points. I don't think i would follow up with series.

I have been planning on getting one since ages. Finally i am but little advice from listy community would be valuable.

Reggie So I got the paper white as a gift from work and I still prefer to read on my kindle app off my phone just because I‘m able to have a black background and white font for my eyes at night. But I don‘t know how the other one is. Good luck! My dad he also prefers the kindle app off the fire tablet than the paper white I ended up passing along to him. 3y
readingjedi I started on the basic, upgraded to the Paperwhite and now have the Oasis (a gift). The difference between the Oasis and Paperwhite is nowhere near as huge as the difference between the basic and the Paperwhite. I'd definitely recommend the Paperwhite, it's a joy to use and does pretty much everything you need an ereader to do. 3y
Reggie Also go under search and look up the hashtags #paperwhite #oasis #ereader some people have posted about them. 3y
See All 16 Comments
ishan0986 @Reggie hey thanks man. Really helpful. 🙂 3y
ishan0986 @readingjedi yep oasis is out of bounds for now. I am thinking paperwhite as it has the contrast feature which the other one misses. 3y
kezzlou85 I have a paperwhite and love it. Plenty of storage and easy to read no matter the lighting conditions. 3y
TheAromaofBooks If you literally just want to use it for reading, I would go with the Paperwhite. It has a different type of screen that doesn't strain my eyes like reading on a phone or regular tablet does. I noticed a big difference when I switched from my old Kindle Fire to the Paperwhite. However, you can't do anything else on the Paperwhite (like download a game or surf the web), so that is its big disadvantage. 3y
TheLibrarian Paperwhite! The screen is great for reading since it doesn‘t bother my eyes like most technology. Plus you can read it without worrying about glare. I haven‘t used my Kindle Fire since my I got my Paperwhite a few years ago. 3y
BookishMarginalia Paperwhite is best for reading. 3y
tenar You‘re asking between the basic Kindle and the Paperwhite? Not the Fire tablet, right? I had an earlier version of the Paperwhite, and last summer I bought the basic Kindle to replace it. I‘m pleased, it‘s extremely similar, and I used the money I saved to buy the no-ads feature. Last year the major differences left between the basic Kindle and Paperwhite were the pixel density, waterproofing, and memory size. 👇🏻 3y
tenar If you want to read manga on it, read in the bath, load up on Audible audiobooks, or just really want to feel premium, those extras might be something you need. The basic Kindle is so light it almost feels like a toy, and sometimes it takes a few pages for the shadow of a dark image to clear, while my old Paperwhite was heftier and had less of an artifact problem. What is the contrast feature you mentioned? 3y
ishan0986 @tenar on the paperwhite kindle you can turn the background black with the text being white. The basic one misses this feature. I think it's called dark mode. 3y
tenar Oh, got it! If you need that, certainly the Paperwhite‘s the one for you. If you‘re concerned about the brightness level when reading at night, the light on the basic Kindle can go very, very dim (or obviously all the way off, and you can still read with a lamp just like a real book). I use dark mode on all my other devices and am fine with the basic Kindle at night, but it looks like @Reggie would have loved that feature! 3y
tenar P.S. My favorite Kindle feature is one not a lot of people use - it has a dedicated email address to receive documents and books. I love sending long PDFs or public domain classics from Project Gutenberg to my Kindle without having to manually hook up to my PC. Here‘s all the details and accepted formats: https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/email 3y
ishan0986 @tenar yup i do this with my kindle app for andriod. But i feel the strain it causes me is quite enough to push me into getting a kindle. I have ordered the paperwhite. 😅 3y
tenar Woohoo! 🎉 How exciting, I hope it brings you hours of reading joy! I wouldn‘t be able to read nearly as much as I like without mine. 3y

I had some idea about it but didn't know about the exact details of such camps and the sentiments of people kept there. I was stunned reading this. The cruelty and insensitivity of the nazi regime left me utterly shocked and stunned. But the the courage shown by the people, the light of hope in such atmosphere is just amazing. ⬇️

ishan0986 The resilience, the strength they emmitt is what keeps humanity alive. The love for books shown here reminds me how we sometimes take books for granted. Books are not just some pages about stuff. They are a source of love, happiness, emotions and they infact bring about emotions that I am too afraid to show to anyone. Life, all life is short. Live it peacefully and with love. Everyone should read this. @TheAromaofBooks thanks for hosting. 3y

Finally got my hands on them. I am eagerly waiting to read them. This month is going kinda off for my reading and watching anything scary. Hope to add some reading time in the remaining days.

Scochrane26 I still haven‘t read Thousand Splendid Suns but have heard it‘s amazing. Kite Runner is wonderful & heartbreaking in parts. 4y
Reggie I haven‘t read Thousand Splendid Suns because The Kite Runner was so good but it was a very emotional read and I just feel like I have to be in the right mood to read that kind of book. But he‘s a great writer. Hope you like them! 4y
paper.reveries Enjoy! I still haven't read this one... 4y
