The Imperfects | Amy Meyerson
post image

I‘m LOVING this book…its literally set on my old street where I first grew up in Lower Merion… Edgehill Road. This would work for several #52Books23 prompts - still not sure which prompt I‘ll use it for. I‘m 💯 certain the author, Amy Meyerson is a local girl…right @DivineDiana ? !! She‘s already named Hymies and Laurel Hill Cemetery 😁

IndoorDame Fun! I read a book set where I grew up last year and it was so cool to see that in print! 7d

squirrelbrain How cool! 😁 7d
Read-y_Picker That's so fun!
CBee I doubt I‘ll ever find a book set in my hometown (Vicksburg, MS) unless it‘s Civil War related nonfiction 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ 7d
Cinfhen I literally grew up on 203 Edgehill Road - it‘s so random why the author chose that street😄 @CBee @Read-y_Picker @squirrelbrain @IndoorDame - it is pretty cool - I texted all my siblings they weren‘t as amused 😂 7d
AmyG That‘s pretty wild. What town is this in? Our town in NJ had an Edge Hill. 7d
Cinfhen It‘s set in Lower Merion, Pa @AmyG outside of Philly - author keeps mentioning local deli‘s and other local spots. She obviously spent time in the area 7d
AmyG I thought it was PA! It‘s fun reading about places you know. Harlan Coben lives a few towns over from where we lived in NJ and he would write about the area. 6d
ShelleyBooksie What! Harlan Coben lives by you @AmyG !! Jelly. 6d
Librarybelle Oh! Stacking! 6d
AmyG @ShelleyBooksie He used to when we lived in NJ. 2 towns over. 6d
DivineDiana Thank you for putting on my radar! I visited her Website and read that although she currently lives in Los Angeles area, she is originally from Philadelphia! Stacked! 😘 6d
Cinfhen Yes, totally love that about Coben @AmyG my brother lives in West Orange and his kids went to the Jewish Day School in Livingston - I need to pick up a Coben, it‘s been a while. I think @Suzze knows Coben @ShelleyBooksie or there‘s a connection 🙌🏻 6d
Cinfhen I‘m enjoying the book @Librarybelle @DivineDiana interesting history too but it‘s a little slow in the middle. I‘m listening to audio via hoopla & I always like Cassandra Campbell as a reader🙌🏻 6d
Bklover 2nd package has arrived. 😁😁😁👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️ #muglove 2d
Cinfhen Yay @Bklover 🙌🏻I haven‘t spoken to my mom since I arrived in Morocco/ terrible Wi-Fi but I assume package has arrived. Going to Fez today so maybe Wi-Fi will improve ❣️😄 1d

I don‘t know when I picked this up on Audible or why, but it was a really solid memoir of a young woman‘s experience as a war correspondent/ photo journalist. Lynsey Addario has worked in almost all the contemporary war zones risking her life to take photos that show the cost of war on civilians, soldiers and most often innocent women & children. Her story was fascinating & I loved hearing her story. #52Books23 #AWarOtherThanWWIorWWII

STILL PACKING!! I‘m the worst packer!! I NEVER know what to bring…this travelogue is #MoreMehThanYeah but it‘s a good enough diversion while I decide what makes the final cut 😅 According to the author temperatures dip down low into the 30‘s at night during January🥶

TrishB That‘s what it was in the day here over the weekend! 7d

My library hold came in last night, so I thought I‘d spend my time packing & listening to this audio. Before I even selected which books to bring on my trip the audio was over. It‘s a tightly crafted story of family, kindness, grief and love. So poignant/ not a word wasted. Stunning narration. #52Books23 #Under200Pages

House Is on Fire | Rachel Beanland
post image

Such a wonderful #HF story about the 1811 Richmond Theatre Fire that killed 72 people mostly women. The story begins with the fire and then the aftermath following a handful of survivors. Ripe for bookclub discussion, I couldn‘t turn the pages quick enough. I appreciated the addition of the Author‘s Note which gave more context. This book touches on the cruelty of slavery, society struggles between men & women and preconceived idea of heroism.

Ten Steps to Nanette | Hannah Gadsby
post image

I really wanted to love this memoir because it‘s hard not to feel for the author Hannah Gadsby, but I found this book suffered from TMI. Some chapters were SO RIDICULOUSLY long, filled with such minutiae. I‘m guessing that‘s how Hannah‘s brain is wired but I felt like some editing was desperately needed. I also had the sense Hannah needed to write this memoir more for herself than for anyone else and for that I applaud her.

MrsMalaprop Agree with you about the need to edit. I really appreciated hearing about neurodiversity from her perspective. 1w
Cinfhen She‘s brilliant @MrsMalaprop 1w

I found Rabia Chaudry extremely likeable and listening to her narrate her story was a real treat. She humorously & honestly shares her immigrant story, growing up surrounded by a loud and loving Pakistani family where food played a huge role. The food descriptions sounded incredible but I did not feel that Rabia displayed a true message of body positivity. She seemed OBSESSED with her weight and never truly accepting of her figure. 👇🏽

Cinfhen She spends thousands of $ attempting to fix her weight by joining gyms, diet programs, hiring personal trainers and even undergoing surgery and yet never seems satisfied with her physical appearance. I felt like this book contained a lot of fat phobia and shaming and while I honestly don‘t believe that was the intention I don‘t think people struggling with their weight will feel any comfort or empowerment. 1w
Cinfhen She does display a ton of female empowerment and she‘s such a gem of a human being!!! 1w
peaknit I really enjoyed her book about Adnan Syed, the woman is a gem. 1w
See All 6 Comments
Cinfhen Yes, I loved that book about Adnan and she does go into some of the details about her advocacy work @peaknit she‘s definitely a FORCE!! If this was just marketed as a memoir it would have been perfect but it felt wrong to call this a body positive manifesto. 1w
peaknit The title alone does not feel body positive. 1w
Cinfhen Right @peaknit ??? It was her childhood nickname 😬lots of fat shaming 1w

I had a BUSY reading week and actually a busy week in general, hence why I‘m behind on a few reviews. Really enjoyed the new book by Rachel Beanland coming out in April and Babel was a total surprise pick for me! Vanderbilt was very interesting and Fatty Fatty was good but I have some thoughts…same with the Gadsby. I just COULD NOT wrap my head around My Volcano and it‘s the year for #AllHailTheBail so I quit by page 34. #NoRegrets

Deblovestoread You had a great reading week! And I feel validated on my bail of My Volcano so thank you 😁 1w
Cinfhen @Deblovestoread honestly I was like, why am I wasting my time…it‘s not working for me. I‘m really happy with my decision and you should be too 😂😘 1w
cariashley @Cinfhen @Deblovestoread i probably should have just bailed on My Volcano too but I stuck it out when I really didn‘t need to… have to be better about that! 1w

Cinfhen It‘s always hindsight @cariashley but im trying to give myself an easy out 😂😂 it‘s January and I have SO MANY books I want to read!!!! 1w
Cinfhen Yesssss @Cathythoughts I REALLY liked it even though it‘s long and not my usual genre. That‘s why it‘s good to at least try before saying no to a book!!! 1w
TrishB Great week 👍🏻 34 pages! Wow 😯 @Cathythoughts Babel is 99p on kindle today if you haven‘t brought yet. 1w
Cathythoughts @TrishB Thanks Trish , I have it on audible, but for 99p I‘m getting the kindle too, I might like the option of reading 😘 1w
TrishB @Cathythoughts cool 👍🏻 1w
Cinfhen Can‘t argue with 99p @Cathythoughts 💚🎉 1w
Cinfhen I did listen on Audible @Cathythoughts and I thought it was FANTASTIC narration 🙌🏻 1w

Loving this historical picture of the Vanderbilt Family. What a bunch of eccentrics😁Photos from the 1883 Vanderbilt Ball in NYC. Yes, that‘s actually a cat that was taxidermy and worn on the head of Kate strong. The overskirt was made entirely of white cats‘ tails sewed on a dark background. The bodice was formed of rows of white cats‘ heads and the headdress was a stiffened white cat‘s skin. Her necklace read PUSS in diamonds. WTF 😳

My audio hold came in yesterday and I just finished another audio today ( Nanette - still thinking about my feelings on that one) Anyway, I‘m curious to learn about Cornelius, the “Commodore” Vanderbilt and the making of his vast fortune and large brood. Might be able to use for #52Books23 #RoaringTwenties 😁

Lindy Nanette gave me a lot of feelings too. 2w

Cinfhen So far it‘s a little “dry” @Megabooks feels more like a history book and less like a family story but I still enjoy the gilded age of NY 2w
Cinfhen True @CBee Anderson is great company 🧡 2w
Cinfhen Im really torn over the Hannah Gadsby memoir @Lindy I still need to process my thoughts and feelings 2w
CBee @Cinfhen I‘ve loved him since Channel One news - it was the news channel that was broadcast into schools? He and Lisa Ling were both on it 😊 2w
Megabooks @CBee I was obsessed with them both too. I‘ve been really happy to follow their careers over the years. 2w
CBee @Megabooks oh my gosh you too?? How cool 😊😊😊 I was probably one of the only kids in my homeroom who actually watched the news 😂 2w
vivastory @Megabooks @CBee Channel One 👏👏 2w
CBee @vivastory you too?? YESSSSS 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 2w
vivastory @CBee My memories of the fall of the Berlin Wall & the fall of the Soviet Union are largely from Channel 1. My school even had it's own student run version of Channel 1 that would make a segment every quarter, lol 1w
CBee @vivastory nice! I didn‘t have it before junior high so I wouldn‘t have seen the Berlin wall coverage, unfortunately. Wish I had! 1w
Cinfhen I LOVE all this #NerdyNostalgia @Megabooks @vivastory @CBee no Channel 1 in my HS but I can see why the networks and school system would have selected Anderson Cooper & Lisa Ling 😍 1w
CBee @Cinfhen we just sort of took over the comments with our #nerdynostalgia 😂😂 That might be my new favorite hashtag 🤓 1w

I went into this book with low expectations and MAJOR trepidation but….I was instantly pulled into this #GaslampFantasy and I never lost interest. Narration was outstanding and really helped to keep me engaged. A story about the power of words, language, heritage, obligations, greed, corruption and institutions. I know, sounds dull but SO captivating. Might be my front runner in the #ToB23 shortlist 🥰

Cuilin I have this on hold from my library. Looking forward to it. 2w
TrishB Well that told me 😁 so glad you enjoyed it though. It was in my top 22 last year. 2w

squirrelbrain I‘m looking forward to this now, when I wasn‘t previously. I *may* start it tomorrow but it depends how the traffic is on my commute, as I still have an hour or so to go on 2am In Little America. 2w
Megabooks So glad you enjoyed it so much!! It was a pleasant surprise for me too! 2w
Cinfhen I don‘t want to overhype this book @squirrelbrain and plenty of our wonderful friends didn‘t care for this book 😉 not naming names @Hooked_on_books BUT it surprised me in the best way possible🤷🏼‍♀️I think for someone like me who hardly reads fantasy, I was able to become fully immersed without being overwhelmed by the fantasy elements 2w
Cinfhen @Megabooks I remember being surprised that you enjoyed Babel, but now I see why. It‘s more historical fiction than fantasy I think (edited) 2w
Chelsea.Poole 1. This gives me so much hope! I‘m not fantasy reader either so glad to hear it‘s a pick for you! 2. Lovely flowers 🌸 2w
Hooked_on_books Ha! You named names! 🫣😂 2w
KarenUK It was our runner up for Book of the Year at work…. I‘m looking forward to it even more after your review! 💕 2w
BkClubCare @Cinfhen - thanks for the tag 😉 2w
BkClubCare The audio is well done. But I think it too long. I will finish - I am up to 1.8x speed 2w
Librarybelle Interesting - it‘s not my typical genre, but something to think about for the prompt! 2w
batsy I've been looking forward to read it especially after my sister recommended it. I'm glad to hear that you liked it, as well! 2w
Cinfhen It‘s definitely on the longer side @BkClubCare and like most longer books, I always think a little editing would go far but this one didn‘t bother me as much. I enjoyed the story even though the author‘s intent was a bit heavy handed. I can‘t wait to hear what ya‘ll will make of it @Chelsea.Poole @batsy @KarenUK 2w
Cinfhen There are probably “easier” books out there for this prompt @Librarybelle and I really picked it up only because of Tournament of Books, but I ended up really liking it. LMK if you give it a go. 2w
Bluebird I started this yesterday and am loving it. I got to ‘jump the line‘ on my library hold and have this for 6 more days. Hopefully I can finish it so I don‘t have to wait several weeks to get it again. 🤞 1w

Just under 5 hours left on audio and im happy to report im still VERY MUCH enjoying this very dense story. The author definitely has an agenda but that‘s ok. Her message about colonialism, greed, war and privilege is a worthy one to write about. There are a few decisions the protagonists make that are highly questionable but this is fiction after all.

Cinfhen I‘m still hooked @julesG @TrishB 2w
StaceGhost This one is on my list! 2w

Addison_Reads This was one of my favorite reads last year and I was happy to see it on the #tob23 shortlist. I'm glad you're enjoying it. 2w
Cinfhen I was dreading this book @StaceGhost as fantasy isn‘t really my thing and the length was scaring me too but I must say 15 hours in, im really enjoying 😁 2w
Cinfhen I‘m so happy to see it on the shortlist @Addison_Reads otherwise I NEVER would have attempted to read this book. Do you think this works for #HighFantasy??? 2w
TrishB I‘m so pleased you‘re still enjoying 😁 just shows sometimes we should give things a chance. 2w
Addison_Reads @Cinfhen I definitely think this book could be considered #HighFantasy. The elaborate setting alone would place it in that category, but there are other aspects of high fantasy in this epic story too. 2w
julesG @Addison_Reads I think it's most often filed under Dark Academia and Historical Fantasy. 2w
julesG I agree with @TrishB, glad you are still enjoying it 2w
Cinfhen Since I hardly read any fantasy I might go with @Addison_Reads ☺️ BUT in case I‘m willing to try another fantasy book, what would you recommend for high fantasy @julesG ?? 2w
Cinfhen @TrishB true!! Just goes to show you, sometimes you can teach an old dog some new tricks 2w
julesG High fantasy is the books I tend to avoid, too epic for my 'I need a fast pace and action' tastes. But I think Robin Hobb, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, Tolkien, George RR Martin, and Le Guin (Earthsea) have all written High Fantasy. @Trish might recommend Robin Hobb. I've read Sanderson and and Rothfuss and liked them. I'm not a big fan of Tolkien and Martin. I've only read Le Guin's Sci-fi so far. 😬 2w
StaceGhost @Cinfhen awesome! I‘ve been putting it off too even though it‘s definitely in my wheelhouse 2w
Addison_Reads Thank you @JulesG for the information. 😀 @Cinfhen I read a lot of fantasy, including high fantasy, and even though Babel is listed as historical fantasy/dark academia, I still feel you could make a good case that it also has elements of high fantasy. 2w
Cinfhen Thanks @julesG @Addison_Reads I definitely feel like this book captures MY IDEA of HIGH FANTASY 😅so I think I‘ll stick with that 😂 2w
Ruthiella Pigs are still being sighted in the air 🐷 😂. I‘m so glad you‘re enjoying it. 2w
AllDebooks I am excited to be starting this soon. Heard so many good things 2w
MicheleinPhilly I am shocked. SHOCKED I SAY! 2w
sarahbarnes Very excited to try this one! 2w
Cinfhen I like to spice things up @MicheleinPhilly 😉yup @Ruthiella the pigs are getting tired from all their flapping 😂😂😂 2w
Cinfhen It‘s very engaging @sarahbarnes @AllDebooks audio narration is SO GOOD 2w
Centique So glad you‘ve found some fantasy you‘re enjoying! I have this on my TBR, sounds right in my wheel house. Your flowers are gorgeous! 😍 2w
Hooked_on_books I‘m so glad you‘re enjoying this! There‘s a point she hammers away at in the last bit of the book that really rubbed me the wrong way (and almost made this a pan), so I hope you get through that part still enjoying this. 2w
TrishB I wouldn‘t class this one as high fantasy. It has fantasy elements, but it‘s still situated in a world you recognise. To me, high fantasy is set in other universe‘s with other power structures and personal magic etc To me, Hobb is my fave as @julesG says, I‘m not a massive Tolkien fan, but like most of the others mentioned. Sanderson writes HUGE books, even I think they need an editing 😁 2w
Cinfhen BUMMER!!! I‘m keeping it as a high fantasy back-up just in case @TrishB do you think it works as a #gaslampfantasy @julesG @Addison_Reads ???? Also I saw this book mentioned for high fantasy - thoughts 2w
Cinfhen Thanks @Hooked_on_books @Centique 💐I‘m sure I know what you‘re referring to Holly but I still have two hours to go and it‘s not needling me yet!!!! 2w
TrishB That‘s just me though 😁 2w
Cinfhen My son E and I somehow share an Audible account so I own TONS of high fantasy because that‘s the genre he loves. I know I have the Hobb trilogy and some Sanderson & Rothfuss too. So I‘ll give it a go @TrishB @julesG and see how it goes…first I need to finish Babel. 2w
julesG It's set in early Victorian era, so I'd say #gaslampfantasy works. 2w
julesG See, you've got a lot of books at hand already. The Sanderson books can be listened to at 1.75x. You can do chores alongside, take a nap, and, I promise, you won't lose the thread. 😜 2w
Cinfhen Thanks 🙏🏻 @julesG xxx How you feeling? Hope your cold has cleared up xx have a good day 💟 2w
Cinfhen Oh GD….I‘m NOT attempting the Sanderson @julesG I think I‘d lose my mind 🤪 2w
julesG Aw, thanks. The cold is slowly moving out and hay-fever is moving in (hazelnut and birch trees are in bloom already 🙄🙄). Have a good day, too. Hope you get lots of reading in. 💖 2w

Pigs must be flying @julesG @TrishB because I‘m really enjoying this #GasLightFantasy story - really sharp but accessible
A love letter to linguistics, language, learning, cultures, identities and Oxford. I‘m only a little bit in so I‘m hoping my admiration doesn‘t begin to fizzle out. Audio narration is OUTSTANDING 🙌🏻🎧💟 #ToB23 shortlist

julesG The audio is great. Made me want to get the physical copy. I struggled with the last part(s) of the book. 2w
Cinfhen Uh oh @julesG maybe I‘ll continue to surprise myself!!! The physical copy is GORGEOUS but I don‘t think I would have liked this book in print. There‘s something about the narration that is SO soothing & lulling. I want to see what else the reader narrates. (edited) 2w
See All 25 Comments
IndoorDame I‘m glad to hear the audio is great! I‘ve been toying with using my next audible credit on this since my library hold is still 19 weeks away and I‘m feeling impatient 2w
Cinfhen I was lucky to be able to borrow @IndoorDame BUT I would have been VERY SATISFIED if I had used an Audible credit 2w
LeeRHarry I was needing a book for Gaslamp fantasy and I didn‘t even think of Babel, a book I definitely want to read, so thanks 😊 glad you‘re enjoying it! 2w
Cinfhen I have to give credit to @Megabooks for that prompt idea 💡 🙌🏻 @LeeRHarry 2w
MicheleinPhilly Oh I‘ll be VERY curious to see what you think of this. 2w
Cinfhen I‘m not sure if you‘ll like Babel @MicheleinPhilly but meanwhile I‘ve been sidetracked by this audio….phenomenal (edited) 2w
MicheleinPhilly I don‘t know that I will either but I‘m always curious to hear what non-fantasy readers like me think of it. I adored Nanette! Enjoy! 2w
merelybookish I feel resistant to this one...maybe you'll convert me @Cinfhen 😄 2w
Cinfhen I‘ll let you know @merelybookish hoping it stays engaging 🤞🏼I sort of put it on the side burner as I picked up a new Libby hold 2w
BarbaraBB I am about a third in now and still enjoying it too. Who would have thought?! It reads a bit YA even! 2w
Cinfhen You‘re reading Babel too @BarbaraBB ?!? It does feel a bit YA but it‘s really engaging 2w
BarbaraBB I listen to it on audio. @RidgewayGirl recommended that and it really works for me. But it will take a while because I only listen to audiobooks when driving or walking. 2w
Ruthiella It‘s great when a book surprises one like that! 2w
Cinfhen Narration is SO GOOD @BarbaraBB and definitely so true @Ruthiella expectations works both ways! 2w
squirrelbrain Ooh it‘s good that it works for #gaslampfantasy. I‘m actually quite looking forward to it, even though @julesG and @TrishB thought I might not like it either. 2w
Cinfhen I do think you‘re gonna like this @squirrelbrain GO AUDIO if you can. I‘m listening via #scribd 2w
TrishB @squirrelbrain @Cinfhen I‘m liking the pigs flying 😉 2w
squirrelbrain I can get it on Scribd audio Cindy, but I‘m also getting a digital library copy this coming weekend. I just don‘t get that much time to listen to audio and it‘s SO long! 2w
Megabooks You can do it! The plot is really propulsive and doesn‘t feel as long as it is. 2w
Cinfhen It is long @squirrelbrain but like @Megabooks said - it moves quickly & @BarbaraBB mentioned it feels YA and it‘s true but that‘s not bugging me either @TrishB I feel like Alice, I must have taken some mushroom tea 🍄🫖 2w
Well-ReadNeck Just picked this up today on Kindle Daily Deal. Going to read as soon as I finish 2w
Cinfhen Ohhhhh!!! That‘s a GREAT price @Well-ReadNeck !!!!! I ended up loving Babel 😃 2w

It‘s clear that the real SUPER STAR in this memoir is Nyle‘s mom and it‘s clear Nyle is her number one fan. Nyle calls this memoir a “love letter to a way of life” and that‘s truly what this was. Nyle shares his experiences within the Deaf Community and his love for ASL and those who advocate for it‘s usage. I did go #DownTheRabbitHole and watched a ton of DWTS videos. Pretty amazing how Nyle was able to feel the music and dance so gracefully 😍

Cinfhen It was interesting @MallenNC to hear both Nyle‘s & Jennifer‘s DWTS experience!!! I‘m enjoying your list!! I have 4 more to go but im not sure I‘ll get to them this month. I plan on reading the rest during the year! 2w
See All 23 Comments
Cinfhen #NonFictionChallenge23 #AllAboutTheBase @Riveted_Reader_Melissa it‘s the way Nyle and many others in the Deaf Community hear music and are able to keep/ dance to the rhythm/ through the vibrations 😄 2w
MallenNC @Cinfhen It was a coincidence that I read those two close together. I had actually forgotten about Jennifer doing the show. I am going to be reading from your list beyond January also. I got sidetracked this week by Prince Harry! 2w
KarenUK The photo shoot he did with his mother on America‘s next top model was so beautiful. The lens captured their beautiful bond so well…. 2w
Cinfhen I saw that too @KarenUK when I checked out his #ANTM cycle photos 🥰 2w
Cinfhen @MallenNC I got sidetracked by Prince Harry too 🥰🥰🥰 2w
squirrelbrain I don‘t know Nyle but would love to read this. A deaf actor (Rose Ayling-Ellis)won Strictly in the UK last year - her Couples Choice dance was amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QejOzrlovTQ 2w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Cinfhen that‘s a wonderful pick for that! I love it… and stacking this book too 2w
Librarybelle Great review! 2w
Cinfhen I just watched the clip @squirrelbrain - she‘s lovely Do you remember Marlee Matlin, the deaf actress who won an Academy Award , she was on DWTS too. A long time ago. 2w
Cinfhen If you read True Biz this is a good companion piece @Librarybelle @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @squirrelbrain 2w
squirrelbrain I think Rose spoke to Marlee during her Strictly journey. I remember a few Littens speaking about Nyle when we read True Biz, which was the first time I‘d heard of him. 2w
vlwelser Not that you need another rabbit hole, but he was lovely on America's Next Top Model. 2w
Cinfhen I did google him on ANTM and saw some photos but I‘m almost inclined to bingewatch the entire season @vlwelser 😅 2w
vlwelser I always liked that show so I might be biased, but I think you'd be entertained at the very least. 2w
KathyWheeler I rarely watch ANTM, but for some reason I watched the cycle he was on. I loved him on it, and read this memoir last year. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. 2w
Cinfhen ANTM is one of those addictive shows @KathyWheeler @vlwelser im just not sure I want to open that Pandora‘s box!!!! 2w
Megabooks So glad you enjoyed this too!! I read it back to crack with True Biz and that was great! 2w
Cinfhen It‘s not my favorite memoir @Megabooks but it was cool to learn from an own voice ASL speaker & the irony isn‘t lost on me that I chose audio 🤦🏼‍♀️ 2w
Cinfhen I thought it was interesting that Nyle considers this book translated from ASL @Megabooks 2w

Im not at all familiar with Nyle but @MallenNC #ALspine picks haven‘t let me down yet!! Im engaged so far with Nyle‘s story.

MallenNC I watched him on Dancing with the Stars but I read his book because another reader I trust recommended it and she didn‘t follow his career at all. I hope you enjoy! 2w

#UnpopularOpinion For such a short novel this book felt repetitive and the cast of characters were not fully fleshed so I had difficulty distinguishing one from the other. Plus there was a side story that merged with the main plot for no real reason other than providing some urgency to the rather dull storyline. Just so-so for me. If you like family dramas or grown siblings behaving like spoiled brats then give this a try.

BarbaraBB Love the review 😂 2w

Cinfhen Thanks @BarbaraBB I know @Megabooks liked this one so it could be just me 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w
Librarybelle Great review! It‘s always good to see everyone‘s take on a book! 2w
squirrelbrain I may still give it a go, and I quite like spoiled brats in books…! 2w
Read4life I may try it. It would knock off #AuthorWithTheSameNameAsYou for #52BookClub2023 for me. 2w
Cinfhen It‘s a quick read @Read4life so it might be worth picking up!! I listened on #Scribd @squirrelbrain but I wonder if it‘s better in print ☺️ 2w
Ruthiella This just came in at the library for me! I will go in with an open mind! 2w
Cinfhen Curious to hear your thoughts @Ruthiella keep me posted ❤️ 2w

Here‘s my plans for week three of 2023😄 Hoping to finally get to Yoga Store Murder & Becoming Eve. I started Flight last night and ended up finishing it this morning. It‘s under 5 hours on audio so a quick listen 🎧 #MoreMehThanYeah Want to finish one more from @MallenNC list - I really enjoyed my first 4!!! And I want to start the #LiteraryCrew January book - Peach Blossom Spring. Excited to wrap up Godmothers with the #SundayBuddyRead group

Cinfhen Is anyone else having panic attacks that Litsy is about to crash and implode💥 it‘s taking FOREVER for my comments to post….if they do post😢😫🙁and it takes ages for my conversations to display 😖😬 2w
Cathythoughts It‘s taking ages for my comments to post too. I really enjoyed Peach Blossom. 💕 2w
mrp27 Yes!!!! I‘ve been feeling uneasy about it lately. The app is starting to feel even more antiquated than it already is. I was just commenting that someone pointed out Litsy hasn‘t been updated in a longtime and when I started to think about it, it‘s true. No new functions, no new advancements just more glitches. I feel like more people are turning away from Litsy because it‘s so archaic. 2w
See All 26 Comments
BarbaraBB Same here. Very scary! Where are the LibraryThing people with all their plans??! 2w
Cinfhen I know @mrp27 @BarbaraBB it‘s really upsetting and I‘m really sad to think these days might be dwindling @Cathythoughts 😭😭😭 2w
Cathythoughts Might these days be dwindling???? Have I missed some big news 2w
DGRachel Apparently there are server issues that Tim can‘t fix and he has to have someone else take a look at it, so maybe next week the posting issues will be fixed. As for updates, I‘m not holding my breath. I really think LibraryThing plans to let Litsy die from neglect and that breaks my heart. 2w
Cinfhen No news @Cathythoughts but more like a feeling. Nothing has been upgraded or improved since LibraryThing took over, it just feels like Litsy is falling into neglect 💔 I‘m sure most people would pay a small fee to have Litsy maintained and updated with new features and content - don‘t you think @DGRachel 2w
BarbaraBB I know I would. And LT hasn‘t been updated for a long time either - at least as far as I can judge. 2w
TrishB I share everyone‘s feelings here. I think it‘s just going to die naturally by the wayside 🥲 this is probably the only app I‘d pay for. 2w
batsy I share the same worries about Litsy! My most favourite app precisely for the reason that it's the least marketable or easy to monetise ? For everything to survive now it's growth and reach and profit but Litsy is the best for the "smallness", if that makes sense. 2w
Cinfhen So true @batsy @TrishB @BarbaraBB I can‘t imagine a non Litsyverse 2w
BarbaraBB We could reach out to Tim Spalding and ask him to start a crowdfunding? 2w
BarbaraBB I might be naïve but I‘ve trusted his good intentions. (edited) 2w
Cinfhen I‘m sure you‘re right @BarbaraBB and I‘d be willing to take a chance 🫶🏼 2w
DGRachel At one point, there was a concern about storage space and Tim said no one wanted them to archive old posts or notifications. The app has been going 7 years. I think we could drop a year or two of posts from the server. I, too, would be willing to pay. Not everyone has $2-10/mo in their budget, though, and I love that it‘s accessible to all right now. 2w
Cinfhen I think you‘re right @DGRachel about Litsy being accessible to everyone 💗 2w
BarbaraBB I‘d love to keep all posts. And I think it shouldn‘t be obliged but like a crowdfunding, I‘d be willing to pay a bit to keep it running, just that. It doesn‘t need to be fancier than it is now @DGRachel 2w
Andrew65 @DGRachel @Cinfhen Tim has always said he is committed to maintaining Litsy for what it offers. Hopefully these are temporary glitches that will be rectified when the severs are sorted. A world without Litsy isn‘t worth thinking about. The issues do seem to be intermittent, sometimes working smoothly, other times a slight delay. I am thankful to @TimSpalding as without him Litsy will have died a few years ago. 2w
DGRachel @BarbaraBB Yes. I would absolutely contribute to crowdfunding if it avoided a monthly and improved performance. I don‘t need new features. I just want the features it has to work better, more consistently. I‘d be lost without my Litsy friends. 2w
Suet624 @andrew65 @barbarabb DGrachel I would suggest reaching out to Tim on the Facebook page Onward Litsy! He responds quickly. If folks want to have a conversation with him that might be the place. I appreciate what he does for us, considering he gets nothing for it. 2w
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 I agree he does try to keep us afloat. I can‘t imaging not having this space! 2w
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie We all need a back up plan! 2w
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 I know I‘ve said this a LOT. Someone needs to compile an email address base … I feel that‘s the least invasive to people and at least we could get a hold of each other ♥️ 2w
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie A cunning plan! 2w

I think this was on the #ToB23 longlist - it‘s less than 5 hours and I‘m more than half way through. It‘s ok. Three adult siblings and their families gather together for their first Christmas after the death of their beloved mom, grandmother. As each sibling is dealing with grief and resentment the next few days are not going to be cheery & merry. #52Books23 #AboutAnInheritance

BarbaraBB It was on the longlist and I really want to read it! 2w
squirrelbrain I agree @BarbaraBB - I really wanted to read this (I can get it on Scribd audio), but you‘re making me think it‘s not ‘all that‘, Cindy! 🤔 2w

Megabooks I really enjoyed this! 2w
Librarybelle Lovely flowers! 2w
Cinfhen Thanks @Librarybelle i didn‘t not like this one @Megabooks @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain but for a short novel it felt repetitive and I was never able to really distinguish one character from the other. For me it was #MoreMehThanYeah 2w

I honestly tried with the Erdrich and the Marra but this is the year I #HailTheBail - wayyy too many books I want to read to force myself to read/ listen to something that isn‘t working for me. Touch was #MoreMehThanYeah but the others were all fantastic, especially my two memoirs! Enjoyed both on audio very much. Still loving the #SundayBuddyRead @TheBookHippie
Hope everyone is having a pleasant day😄💖

TrishB I enjoyed La Rose- but understand where you‘re coming from and totally agree- don‘t carry on if not enjoying! 2w
squirrelbrain Love that hashtag! I‘m definitely going to try a bit more #hailthebail this year! 2w
LeafingThroughLife I have been struggling with LaRose, too. I can‘t tell if it‘s because I don‘t like it or because my first two reads of the year set the bar too high. It‘s been a little too put downable for me but still trying to figure out if I should …permanently put it down. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w

TheBookHippie The personal librarian pissed me off as I read the true story and took the tour about her 🤣👀 I bailed at the first lie. 2w
TheBookHippie Also I‘m #hailthebail this year as well. 2w
Cinfhen Oh noooooo @TheBookHippie I didn‘t know Personal Librarian wasn‘t 💯accurate - I mean I know it‘s historical fiction but I wasn‘t expecting lies 🙈 2w
Cinfhen I first started LaRose on audio @LeafingThroughLife and then I switched to print and by the 150 page mark, I‘m just not feeling it🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w
KarenUK Eek…. I have Mercury Pics to read…. Now I‘m wary! 😂 2w
Cinfhen Lots of mixed reviews for this one @KarenUK hopefully you‘ll like it more than I did 🫶🏼 2w
BarbaraBB #HailTheBail 🤣🤣 you‘re the master of hashtags 💖 2w
BarbaraBB Worst is that it makes me think of Tom Cruise in Magnolia: #RespectTheCock. No clue why 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😂 2w

I‘m REALLY feeling this one @BarbaraBB it‘s my choice for #Booked2023 #ChosenForWeirdReview and “weird” seems to be a theme…. The word “weird” repeats often in this book😁 Personally I don‘t think this book is weird at all….it‘s really original 🙌🏻

BarbaraBB Looking forward to it - so many books right now that I want to read!! 😇 2w
Cinfhen Only 40 more pages to go @BarbaraBB LOVING IT!!! 2w

I had no preconceived notions other than curiosity before I began this audiobook. I had not been paying attention to all the drama surrounding Harry‘s courtship, wedding and then his ousting, nor did I follow the young brothers during their formative years. So I was just transfixed by Harry‘s story. He truly lived in a gilded cage, forced to remain silent & stoic as he was often mocked and judged by the press & public.👇🏽

Cinfhen His story brought tears to my eyes. The tragic death of his mom deeply affected his entire life leading him to do everything in his power to protect the woman who finally brought him peace. I wish Harry & Meg a lifetime of happiness and hope they can live the rest of their lives out of the spotlight without the scrutiny of public opinion. And I pray the brothers find a way to reconnect. 3w

LeeRHarry Not for me but glad you thought it was worth the read 😊 3w
Cinfhen Fair enough @LeeRHarry 🫶🏼 3w
Leftcoastzen Lovely review! 3w
Cinfhen Thanks @Leftcoastzen - I was surprised by my attachment to this book😁 also using for #Belize #ReadingTheAmericas23 although only briefly mentioned Harry does visit the Island as part of his Royal duties @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB 😜 3w
britt_brooke I don‘t care at all about the royals, but I‘m definitely reading this out of curiosity, and because I love a celebrity memoir. I‘m currently 421 on the library wait list. 😅 Fortunately, that‘s only 8 weeks! 3w
Cinfhen I was amazed how riveted I was to Harry‘s story @britt_brooke DEFINITELY go audio!!!!! Hearing Harry tell his version of how things went down was impactful. 3w
TheBookHippie I don‘t think people TRULY understand trauma. Especially childhood trauma. I hope they get peace. And maybe the brothers will connect maybe not. I‘m so glad he told his truth may it be healing for him. ♥️ 3w
Cinfhen @TheBookHippie AMEN, sister 🙌🏻 3w
MoonWitch94 @TheBookHippie I was going to say the same thing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 @Cinfhen A lovely review! 3w
AmyG @TheBookHippie I donmt think childhood trauma every leaves you. You just learn to live with it better. 😢 3w
TheBookHippie @MoonWitch94 💜 💜 💜 💜 3w
TheBookHippie @AmyG No. It truly doesn't. I agree 100 percent. We just learn to manage it. 3w
Cinfhen The tragedy of losing his mum and so publicly, shaped his entire life @AmyG @MoonWitch94 he was never given therapy as a child but instead he was shipped off to boarding school within days. It‘s just so sad. I‘m not making excuses for him nor did he, but it was evident that this loss followed him throughout his youth and still haunts him. 3w
MoonWitch94 @Cinfhen I think two things can be true: you can have empathy for a person who has significant childhood trauma that stunted emotional growth, AND still not make excuses for poor behavior. A reason doesn‘t absolve the wrongs, it just makes things more understandable. 3w
Megabooks Really interesting discussion here. I‘m down to 6 weeks wait at the library. Looking forward to reading it. 2w
Librarybelle I am truly undecided if I should read this or not. I‘m curious, but I‘m also way more into the historic royals than contemporary. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
Bluebird I feel like I‘m the only person in the world with no interest in reading this book. 🙄 However, I‘m very glad everyone is enjoying it! 2w
Cinfhen There are references to past Royals @Librarybelle but it‘s very much Harry‘s story. As someone who‘s not into the Royals I found this audio 💯addictive @Megabooks and ultimately very sad @Bluebird I get why this book may not appeal to everyone but I was happy to hear Harry speak his truth. As I‘m sure William would have a very different story to tell. 2w
Hooked_on_books Sounds like Harry knows what it‘s like for women, being silenced and forced by society to take abuse. I‘ll give this one a try if my library gets it. 2w
Cinfhen I think you‘d enjoy hearing Harry‘s story @Hooked_on_books go audio if you can 2w
mcctrish @britt_brooke that‘s pretty close to my number in the library queue where I am although I‘m pretty sure it said I was months out 🤣🤣 2w
britt_brooke @mcctrish 😂 I‘m lucky I get to tap into the Nashville system (even though I‘m in the burbs) which is huge. Lots of copies! 2w
mcctrish @britt_brooke 10 copies here in London ON so maybe I need to find a bigger market to get a library card at 🤔 2w

Oy! The claws are beginning to come out 😫 Sad on many fronts.

rachelk The interview he did with Anderson Cooper made me interested in reading this but it is sad. 3w
Cinfhen I haven‘t seen, read or watched any of the interviews or docu-series @rachelk so I went into this book pretty objectively - I don‘t get why the public feels the need to take sides 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3w
Alfoster Exactly! He feels the way he does for a reason! The Royal Family has different standards. Who are we to judge? 3w
See All 16 Comments
Cinfhen I‘m nearly at the end of the book @Alfoster I found his story very compelling - I‘m sympathetic to his plight. I honestly wish him & Meg and his family happiness but I do think now they need to stay away from courting media attention. They‘ve shared their story on many platforms, hopefully they can now find peace. 3w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m curious as to how the people of the UK feel about this… I‘m watching the documentary on Netflix and the media there is relentless 🥴 just as they were with his mother 💔 3w
Cinfhen I think there are lots of mixed feelings @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and some people I assume are just tired of hearing about Harry & Meghan all the time. Apparently it‘s been endless & relentless. Agreed, these kids ( Harry & William) have been forced to live a very public life. It seems awful. 3w
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks To be honest Misty a large part of the country are fed up with it now. People who are struggling to feed families, heat houses, pay their mortgages, NHS falling apart, strikes galore and this is what the media are focusing on. Feel heartily sorry for him, but feel he does need support and help. Not sure a book and being so public is the way to sort this. As we know big issues with the media so the book has fed the circus. 3w
Cinfhen I appreciate your sharing your opinion as a Brit @Andrew65 there are always multiple sides to a story and I totally can appreciate what you‘ve said. 3w
Andrew65 @Cinfhen Think I saw a survey where 2/3 of the respondents were fed up with it. Personally we know the issues with the media, and feel this may backfire on him as has exposed himself to the media. Saw a comment about how Ronald Reagan‘s daughter said regretted the book she wrote and said to him or about him he would regret it. 3w
Cinfhen I can see how this memoir might be the final straw that breaks the camel‘s back @Andrew65 that‘s why I hope now that he‘s had his chance to share his truth the couple chose to avoid publicity. 3w
Andrew65 @Cinfhen Fingers crossed that is what they do now and somehow privately the family resolve their differences. Although I think this book will make it harder to do that. 3w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Andrew65 @Cinfhen thanks for your insight Andrew. I thought that might be the case. Maybe he will get the help he needs 💙 2w
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I think tomorrow‘s front pages of the newspapers are very illuminating. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-64257766 Kate is most probably the most popular royal, although to be fair Harry was not that many years ago. Many people felt let down (I had a member of staff in tears) when he all but turned his back on Britain and the Royal Family. This all figures in things. All very complex. 2w
Cinfhen I do think Kate is VERY MUCH the people‘s princess @Andrew65 and she deserves to be! But it‘s a shame that the two wives became pitted against each other. 2w
Cinfhen Anyway, I had my fix and I‘m ready to move on….. 2w
Andrew65 @Cinfhen There‘s a long history of rivalries between Princes and their families. 2w

Picked up a physical copy of LaRose yesterday from the charity bookshop and I received a piece of beautiful holiday mail from @jenniferw88 GORGEOUS card, Jenny 💜 Planning on reading the rest of LaRose over the weekend #AAM @Soubhiville

jenniferw88 Considering that I knew it would take a while to get to you, that was a very long time! I sent it early December! Glad you like it! X 3w
Cinfhen Mail here is PATHETIC @jenniferw88 😫but it was worth the wait 😘 the card is really adorable and I love that you shared your top 3 reads 💖 3w
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen the UK had postal strikes during December - another reason I wanted to get it out to you as soon as I could! 3w

I mostly enjoyed this YA story about two Muslim HS students living in California. The book started out very strong but towards the end it petered out a bit. Teens Noor & Salahudin are childhood friends but now they are on the outs until a tragedy brings them back together only leading to new trouble. Audio narration was excellent. #52Books23 #OneOfTheSevenDeadlySins would work for other prompts as well 😍#Booked2023 #QuietYA

Librarybelle I see lots of very positive reviews on Litsy…I may have to look into this! 3w

Cinfhen I think you‘d like this book @Librarybelle 😊 3w
Megabooks Thanks for the tag! I may use this for the same prompt since my library has it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 3w
britt_brooke I recently added this to my TBR after it was mentioned on my friend @ferskner‘s podcast, Well-Read. Glad to know you liked it, too! 3w
Cinfhen As a borrow I think you‘d like it @Megabooks ☺️ 3w
Cinfhen I loved most of it @britt_brooke but it did get a bit too saga-ish (for me)but definitely worth a listen 🎧 3w
britt_brooke @Cinfhen Good to know! 3w
TrishB I‘m quietly still enjoying it 😁 3w
squirrelbrain Sounds good - I‘ll take it in case I need a #quietYA book. 2w
Cinfhen I‘m glad @TrishB reminds me a bit like 2w
Cinfhen It‘s a quick read/ listen @squirrelbrain and very engaging 2w
TrishB Yes- and I‘ve read them one after another so I need something totally different after this! 2w

Spare | Prince Harry the Duke of Sussex

I‘m still loving this memoir but….part two which focuses on Harry‘s military service is wayyyyy too long. Nor am I certain why Harry needed to share about his frost bitten todger but that‘s where I am😄 Harry is utterly charming ( ha, I guess Prince Charming is a real thing😉) and I can appreciate what he means by living in “ fancy captivity.” Harry isn‘t necessarily whining but allowing his reader to see what living as a public figure means.

rockpools I couldn‘t resist. I reserved the audio 😁 3w
Cinfhen I know people are REALLY divided over Harry & Meghan , but I‘m finding his situation sympathetic albeit with some caveats @rockpools (edited) 3w
FantasyChick I felt the same about his military chapters and I do think the frost bite incident went on a little long....but men do love their bits and pieces 🤣 I think I have a few hours of the audio left but I'm really enjoying it. I surprises me how non-controversial it really is so far 🤔 3w
See All 9 Comments
Cinfhen Same @FantasyChick I don‘t think it‘s been such a hotbed of controversy or spilling of family secrets. Harry has some real legitimate grievances 😞 3w
Reecaspieces I am loving it! And I agree with all of the above! 3w
Cinfhen I do think most readers who are buying, borrowing this book are more open to hearing Harry‘s story @Reecaspieces so he might be preaching to the choir 😉but that‘s fine by me 🥰 3w
Reecaspieces @Cinfhen ha! Agreed. And I love listening to it. His voice! And it gives a real perspective to the reader. 3w
BethM I‘m not that far yet but I watched the Colbert interview and it seems like the military was so impactful and meaningful to him that maybe why that section is long? 3w
Cinfhen It definitely comes across how much his time in the service affected him @BethM it was just VERY DETAILED but I didn‘t really mind it. Now I‘m in part three - his courtship with Meghan 3w

I. CAN‘T. STOP!! This hasn‘t been trashy yet, just a raw reckoning of a young man who lost his mother way to young. I had no opinions before I started this book (audio) but wow, I am feeling you, Harry.

swishandflick Gah! You're making me think I might ditch the long library wait and reactivate my Audible account for a hot sec 😂 3w
marleed @swishandflick I only have 636 people in front of me at the library! 3w
Cinfhen #sorrynotsorry @swishandflick 😘😘I‘m sure libraries will be buying additional copies @marleed demand is SO HIGH 3w
See All 7 Comments
marleed @Cinfhen my library has 80 copies. It will be fun to watch that hold list grow as more requests come in. Right now it‘s at 8 requests per hold. I notice they purchase additional copies when the hold is over 6 per copy. My library card is reciprocal with several libraries but by far one library commits much of its resources to Libby. I kind of love seeing how highly utilized it is! 3w
Cinfhen Whoa! 80 copies is a HUGE amount of copies @marleed 3w
marleed @Cinfhen it‘s an awesome library! 3w
Megabooks I am waiting for my library. They have 10 audio copies. It‘s saying a 6 week wait, which I can handle. I‘m glad you‘re enjoying it! 3w

Say what you want but I‘m RIVETED!!!! “The heir (William) and the spare (Harry)” 💔

swishandflick I can't wait for my library hold to come through! It's been a while since I've been this excited for an audiobook😆 3w
Cinfhen It‘s worth waiting for audio @swishandflick every time Harry says “Mummy” my heart breaks 😭😭😭 3w
BethM I‘m going to buy the book tonight bc I can‘t wait months for my library! 3w

Karons1 Is it the right thing to have a family spat in public ? This is all about money 💰 again! He is not very popular in the uk now, and to put his own security and that of our brave armed forces at risk is naive and stupid ! 3w
GypsyKat I just bought this, can‘t wait to read it! 3w
Cinfhen I hope you both find it as compelling as I am @BethM @GypsyKat 😁 3w
GypsyKat @Cinfhen I feel sure that I will! My husband and I were both really into watching their limited series on Netflix. So heartbreaking what they‘ve had to go through! 3w
DGRachel I have an hour left of another audiobook. I think I may work tonight so I have an excuse to start it after dinner. 🤣🤣 3w
MicrobeMom Excited about this one! Loved the Netflix series and Harry! Waiting for my library hold to come in! 3w
Chelsea.Poole I put all other books on hold and agree —“riveted”!! I can‘t stop listening. Love hearing it direct. 3w
Cinfhen I haven‘t watched the series or Oprah‘s interview @MicrobeMom @GypsyKat so I went in with no real opinions and Im just transfixed!! I can‘t stop listening either @Chelsea.Poole @DGRachel I honestly feel for Harry. The loss of his mom affected him more than I imagined, rightfully so. I‘m so glad I bought this book, despite what others may feel. 3w

I started my #AAM - the writing is gorgeous but the storyline is a bit all over the place. I‘m thinking it might be the narration by the author that‘s throwing me off. I saw a copy at the used bookshop where I volunteer so I think I‘ll pick up a physical copy tomorrow.

IndoorDame I started my #AAM book on audio and her narration drove me nuts! I was SO much happier once I switched over to print! 3w
Soubhiville I agree her narration isn‘t the best. I‘ve soldiered through but I won‘t do her books on audio again. 3w
Cinfhen Oh good 😅 it‘s not just me @IndoorDame @Soubhiville I‘ll try the shop tomorrow 🤓 3w

AmyG I started The Sentence on audio, got confused and then took it out of the library. 3w
Cinfhen She seems to read all her own books @AmyG which I guess is kind of a shame. A multi cast narration would really pay off 3w
AmyG @Cinfhen Yes, that could help. I kept getting confused with the characters. With a book it‘s easy to reread parts. 3w
Suet624 @AmyG re multiple characters: I remember that with Love Medicine (which I love) I had to keep track on paper as I went along. It turned out a lot of the characters were related to each other. 3w
Suet624 I‘m really glad you all chose this author to read throughout the year. She‘s so good. Check out Blue jay‘s Dance too, her nonfiction book about being pregnant and writing in her little cabin. It‘s beautiful. @AmyG @Soubhiville @IndoorDame (edited) 3w
Cinfhen In this book too @Suet624 lots of characters are related and same with 3w
Cinfhen I agree @AmyG much easier to flip back in print!!! 3w
Cinfhen The NF sounds wonderful @Suet624 im going to look for it 😊thanks for the recommendation 💗 3w
Suet624 @Cinfhen I think you‘ll really like it. 3w
Centique As you said about the recurring characters- a lot of Erdrich‘s novels center around multiple generations of families from one reservation. You can generally read any of them seperately - although can be really different points in time- it took me a couple to really get all the families straight. It was an effort but they ended up being favourites for me! Would be worth having something to keep track like @suet624 did - great idea! (edited) 3w
Centique I haven‘t got to LaRose yet but I‘m reading The Beet Queen next month I think. (Ivevread 7 but just realising I‘m reading them completely out of order anyway 😂) (edited) 3w
Cinfhen I‘ve read 4 by Erdrich @Centique and they definitely have recurring characters or family relations. She should include a family tree or character list - it would help. I heard Roundhouse is good and part of this “series” but I‘m eager to try her NF. 3w
Centique @Cinfhen I loved Roundhouse - really moving that one. I tried a book of essays but I haven‘t tried her NF. Keen to hear how it goes! 3w
Megabooks I can‘t listen to her narration. 🤷🏻‍♀️ really enjoying her in print though! 3w

vlwelser I don't like the cover. And the title doesn't really stand out. Especially since the book, so far, is excellent. 3w

TheBookHippie I agree the cover should be the four women in the 1940s. 3w

LOVED this memoir ♥️We‘re 4/4 @MallenNC @monalyisha #ALspine 😁Jennifer Grey spills the beans showing all her #TrueColors @Riveted_Reader_Melissa #NFChallenge2023 and I was enthralled with all the 80‘s nostalgia. Using for #52Books23 #Epilogue Audio read by Jennifer was excellent 🙌🏻

TOTALLY forgot that Jennifer Grey dated Matthew Broderick😁 and just my luck…they vacationed together in the #BritishVirginIslands #ReadingTheAmericas23 @MallenNC I‘m LOVING this memoir…wayyyyy juicer than Minnie Driver‘s 🙃

vivastory Wasn't that when they were in the car accident? 3w
Cinfhen Yesssssss @vivastory another “fact” a totally forgot about😂 3w
Bklover I may have to read this! I remember the car accident but forgot it was JG with him. Also I read Michael J Fox‘s most recent memoir and he talks about her as his wife‘s best friend, which for some reason I found interesting. 3w

britt_brooke In my TBR! 3w
MallenNC Oh yeah this is the opposite of Minnie‘s! So juicy. She has had quite a life and she talks all about it. I loved it. 3w

I started this one late December and then decided to wait until January to continue because it worked for #PandemicStory #Booked2023 😷 Kristofer, living in Iceland, receives a message from his long lost lover Miko, a woman he hasn‘t seen in over 50 years. It‘s early March 2020 and the world is beginning to experience a global pandemic, Kritofer decides to fly to Japan before his second chance for great love is lost again. #MoreMehThanYeah

Cinfhen This is my #DoubleSpin @TheAromaofBooks 😌 and it‘s from the #ToB23 long list - I know lots of friends really liked this book but I wasn‘t too invested. It‘s bittersweet with a touch of nostalgia but something in the tone and alternating time shifts didn‘t work for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3w

squirrelbrain No @TrishB I‘m not either, although we‘ve seen it all already in the press anyway…..😬 3w
TrishB @squirrelbrain you‘d think there was nothing else going on in the country 🤷‍♀️ 3w
Centique @TrishB I‘m going to avoid it too. I can‘t believe our national newspaper is live reporting a television interview in another country like it‘s as important as a tsunami or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
Centique @Cinfhen but no shame to anyone who wants to read it either! I just think our media here should get some perspective. 3w
Cinfhen I know @Centique it really is RIDICULOUS!! A story about Harry suggesting the Nazi costume was William & Kate‘s idea made the news here in Israel!!!! That‘s really NOT newsworthy 🤪 I‘m just too curious to pass up hearing his story. But I‘m not team anyone. It‘s sad to see a family implode 😢 3w
Centique @Cinfhen it truly is sad. I can‘t believe that was news in Israel 🤯 3w
