This starts off well but the twists are predictable. The redeeming quality for me was that it calls into question some fairly widespread opinions about romantic love and how it‘s found and most importantly how we judge people who don‘t find it.

It‘s still Thursday, right? All the news today has got me preoccupied - not great memories of this day last year 😞
BUT! I am addicted to the book I‘m currently reading, my 2022 word is….. undecided, because I can‘t make up my mind 😂
And my reading resolutions? Just to read as much as possible. AND to not buy too many books (try to use my library more). Onward! @MoonWitch94

Book 147

I really enjoyed The One by John Marrs. It's set in a dystopian world in which the strand of DNA that can match you with your perfect partner has been identified. The book follows several people who've been matched, including a serial killer. It isn't noteworthy, but it's a fun read. I'm curious to check out the show, though it looks like it doesn't include all the storylines. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic plot!! With all of the DNA sharing companies out there, this book fits right in with the times. Why take a chance on love when you can find your DNA matched soul mate?! Sounds great, until we remember the world isn‘t perfect and there are plenty of people looking to tear others down. Full of love, betrayal, travel, and a psychopath. I give this one 5 stars!!! Book #75 in 2021

How far would you go to find The One? A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you‘ll be matched with your perfect partner—the one you‘re genetically made for. That‘s the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. The One is a fascinating novel that shows how even the simplest discoveries can have complicated consequences.

I feel like I am being generous with the So-So and leaning more towards Pan. This book started off amazing!!! 5 main characters, each with their own compelling story and quick short chapters. I could not put the book down! But, somewhere in the middle, the stories starting dragging. I mean agonizingly and painfully slow. I skimmed over 100 pages just hoping something would happen. The ending was good but I was so over the book by that point.

What a page turner! I found this book to be very easy to read, and I had a hard time putting it down! I loved the short chapters, with a cliff hanger at the end of almost every one. I love the way the author rotated the chapters among the characters. This made it feel like there were 5 stories in one. I think my favorite chapters were those involving Ellie. Needless to say,I highly recommend this book. It‘s a great, quick and exciting summer read.

🎧 What if a dating app could guarantee you the perfect match? All you need to do is submit your DNA to MatchYourDNAdotCom. What could possibly go wrong? Oh. A lot!

Mandy is matched to Richard. 🤯

Christopher, serial killer - is matched to Amy. 🤯

Jade is matched to Kevin. 🤯

Mick loves Sally but they‘re not matched. 🤯

Ellie matches to Tim. 🤯

5 MCs & narrators cycle through many cliff hanger chapters. FUN! Edge of my seat!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Twainy These 5 unrelated stories were great. Sophie Aldred narrates Mandy‘s story. Sophie is Sylvester McCoy‘s Doctor Who‘s companion Ace. 5 different scenarios! All wacky! Looking for an easy fun read? Imagine what could go wrong if you woke up in this world. Would you get tested? What if you were married! Etc etc etc 12mo

Who needs dating aps when a DNA test will match you with the one you are genetically made for? We follow 5 ppl who have been matched: divorcee, a CEO, a fiancé, someone stuck in a dead-end-job, and a serial killer.

So relieved it isn't a “cautionary tale“ blaming sci & tech, and extra points for such an unusual plot. The 5 different POVs made me feel like I was gossiping about the drama-rama in all my friends lives...but in the best possible way.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one. An interesting take on what can happen when people try to “play God” with other‘s lives. Tons of twists and turns, none of which I predicted.

Of note, towards the beginning there is a brutal murder that is described in (way too much) detail for my liking. I‘m one of those people that enjoys watching “murder shows” on ID but this scene actually made my stomach turn. 🤢

This was a solid 3 strar book. The characters were not as riveting as they should have been considering how many there were. I was half way threw the book and still was waiting for some kind of spark or twist. A few twists does happen later, but not enough for me to be caught of gaurd or interested. The characters were very one dimensional and I don't think this book should be classified as a Thriller because it wasn't thrilling 🤷🏻‍♀️

#UnpopularOpinion - I was so bored with this book. I sped it up to 2.0 to get through it faster. There were way too many characters and you couldn‘t connect with any of them. It had over 100 chapters. I found everyone annoying, though I liked Jade and Nick. I probably should have bailed but I was far enough in it that I wanted to see if the end was satisfactory. It was eh. I‘m just glad I got this one off my list.

It's a very particoular book.
The characters are very well built and so the story.
Sometimes it's a little bit too much, some revelations are too much, like the author wanted to shock more and more the reader.
I personally loved Nick and Christopher and their storylines, but I hated Mandy... too dumb to live, in my opinion 🤦‍♀️

The One adaptation was released on Netflix yesterday. I watched the first episode and it seems like they‘re going to be changing A LOT from the book, but I guess I need to continue watching to find out. Has anyone else started watching it?

Jemgirl2014 It's irritating me because it's nothing like the book! Took a break from in to read "Every Last Fear". 1y
candority @Jemgirl2014 Same! My favourite characters are gone and I don‘t even know how they‘re going to do the big reveal now 😠 I have only watched the first two episodes because I am not that interested so far. Oh, I liked Every Last Fear! I hope you do too 😊 1y
Jemgirl2014 I think I'm four episodes in and it's not getting better. The book is solid so I don't know why they felt the need to make so many drastic changes. Very frustrating. As far as "Every Fear", I'm loving it so far! ? 1y
See All 6 Comments
candority @Jemgirl2014 I just finished the series and I‘m so mad. Why even bother making an adaptation if you‘re going to change everything? It‘s like the producers just liked the idea of a DNA match and wanted to make a show about that. 1y
Jemgirl2014 @candority Exactly! I don't think I've ever been so confused while watching a movie based on book I've read. I wonder how the author feels? I'd be so upset if I were him. 😡 1y
candority @Jemgirl2014 One of the worst adaptations I‘ve ever seen! I stalked the author‘s Instagram and he said that he loved the show, even though it is really different from his book. I wonder if that‘s true, or if he just has to put on a positive front to not ruin the relationship between himself and the Netflix team? 1y

I've been meaning to for a couple years and kept putting it off. I was honestly thinking it would be more of a romance but luckily for me it had a more psychological thriller feel. I liked that each chapter switched narrators between 5 different characters lives that didn't overlap at all. Many of the chapters ended on cliffhangers making you want to always keep reading. Looking forward to watching the show airing on #Netflix today (3/12/21).

Read more like a thriller, in a good way. The viewpoint changes between five different characters who have just received their "Match", a person genetically determined soulmate. While the chapters are short, the suspense of each story drives you to keep reading on. Every single chapter past the first few comes with a major or minor twist of some sort, which I enjoyed. 4.5/5

This easily became one of my top 5 books this year and maybe of all time. I read the whole book today and now I‘m wishing it wasn‘t over! The book follows several different perspectives. I generally do not like books that do this because at least one of the storylines doesn‘t interest me. This wasn‘t the case. I can‘t even pick a favorite storyline.
