Another memoir that NEEDS to be added to EVERY school curriculum. Heartbreaking and immersive. Gorgeous narration. I‘m always amazed how people can endure and ultimately thrive after suffering & experiencing such horror. As I sat in my living room with tears running down my face,my son wanted to know “why I torture myself” and I responded “until my last breath I will bear witness and share these stories so that the next generation #NeverForgets

Cinfhen This is my October #BookSpin @TheAromaofBooks 7mo
Cinfhen And DEFINITELY a top 10 read for 2023 7mo
CBee This is exactly why I read the stories and watch the movies and shows…. To bear witness and never ever forget. If you haven‘t watched it already, A Small Light (Nat Geo) is incredible! 7mo

Cinfhen Someone else literally told me just yesterday that I HAVE to watch A Small Light @CBee which I NEED to do 🩷Thanks for sharing the recommendation xx 7mo
CBee @Cinfhen you must 💚 it‘s so well done. And I learned so much more about Miep Gies. Be prepared to cry with this one too 😢 7mo
Cinfhen Of course I also just downloaded this book @CBee 7mo
CBee @Cinfhen that one looks interesting! Stacked! 7mo
CBee Also, I read this when I was in high school, it‘s one I highly recommend: 7mo
Cinfhen Oh wow!! I no nothing about your book @CBee Thanks for sharing!! I was /am very hesitant to read the Betrayal about Anne Frank because apparently the author can not authenticate her claim and she names a Jewish person as the culprit which many say is a way of demonizing the Jews and turning the victims into the perpetrators. I‘m conflicted but curious to read nonetheless 7mo
CBee @Cinfhen I believe they talk about that in A Small Light and I remember reading that there is a bit of controversy there. 7mo
Librarybelle I so need to read this! 7mo
LeahBergen Great review! I‘ll be saving this for just the right moment. 😢 7mo
Cinfhen I just downloaded A Small Light on Prime Video @CBee - watched the first episode. I always assumed Miep was an older woman, I never realized how young she was. WOW her bravery! 7mo
Cinfhen It was only like 6 hours on audio, maybe less @Librarybelle @LeahBergen but it‘s beyond impactful. Highly recommend audio - narration was excellent. 7mo
CBee @Cinfhen I did too! She was so young and never even hesitated to help. Just heroic and so brave. 7mo
TheAromaofBooks Great review!!! 7mo
Megabooks Powerful!! 7mo
Centique I totally agree - we need to bear witness through books to these experiences. Just have a break to recover afterwards! 7mo

I have to confess I never have read Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, but I plan to correct that omission whenever my hold comes in at the library. The strange thing is that I know I have had a print copy for years and never read it. And now it‘s boxed up. But Hannah‘s story is compelling. There are happy times but they are overshadowed by what we as readers know is coming. This book is for #TBRTarot, a book with a name in the title.

CBee I‘ll look for your review once you‘ve read Anne‘s diary. Also - I recently watched “A Small Light,” which is Miep Gies‘s story - powerful but of course heartbreaking 💔 8mo
CatLass007 A Small Light is a movie? 8mo
CatLass007 @CBee I‘m glad there‘s a long wait for Anne‘s Diary. I couldn‘t just dive right into it after just finishing this. 8mo

CBee @CatLass007 yes! It‘s a National Geographic movie, but available on Disney+. 8mo
dariazeoli A Small Light is also on Hulu. I just finished watching this week; highly recommended! 8mo
CatLass007 @CBee @dariazeoli I‘ve never had Disney+ and I canceled Hulu and Netflix earlier this year. One, because of finances and, two, because I‘ve barely had the TV on in the last year. I still have Amazon Prime, BritBox, and Peacock. I‘m not really sure why I even have those. Too busy audiobooking. 8mo
CatLass007 @cbee @dariazeoli I just looked it up on IMDb. It‘s an eight-part mini-series. Some day I‘ll be interested in putting down the books, and I‘ll turn on the TV again. 8mo
CBee @CatLass007 I don‘t watch much, mostly at night on my iPad when the kids have gone to bed 😂 8mo

This book is simply perfect. It is the story of Holocaust survivor Hannah Pick-Goslar, a childhood best friend of Anne Frank. Anyone can read this book. If you‘re unfamiliar w/ the history, the book provides that but doesn‘t feel like you‘re reading a history book. It is completely compelling! You follow Hannah as she moves to Amsterdam & meets the Franks & life as war goes on. As conditions worsen, the Franks disappear 1 day & Hannah & her family

MyNamesParadise are arrested and sent to Westerbork transit camp. Then when Hannah and her family are sent to Bergen-Belsen and the reunion between her and Anne. Then the story of liberation and Hannah‘s post war life as she emigrates to Israel & her life spent as a Holocaust speaker & educator. I just could not put this book down. Parts are hard to read & may be triggering. It‘s such an important read. 10mo

We were sad to learn today of the death of Hannah Pick-Goslar at the age of 93.
Hannah, or Hanneli as Anne called her in her diary, was one of Anne Frank‘s best friends; they had known each other since kindergarten. They became close friends and were always in and out of each other‘s houses.
Hannah recounted: ‘My mother described Anne Frank well. She said: “God knows everything, but Anne knows better.”‘

CoffeeAndABook Such sad news 💔 it brings into perspective how incredibly short Anne‘s was cut. That her friend lived to this day and she might have, too. Heartbreaking. 1y
