Romantic Comedy | Curtis Sittenfeld

so-so

I like Sittenfeld but rom-coms aren‘t my jam, so I figured this would be a mixed bag for me and it was. I did find parts of it quite funny, but I find the genre predictable in ways that don‘t work for me, and that was true here. I wouldn‘t have picked this up if not for Camp Litsy, but at least I didn‘t hate it!

SamAnne I think I will have the same experience. I might skip it. 11mo

ImperfectCJ I'm not super excited about this one for #camplitsy23 because I'm not generally a fan of Sittenfeld or of rom-coms. But I sort of thought, maybe if the two are combined I'll like the result? 11mo

batsy I really liked Prep but I read it a long time ago, and I didn't get on with Eligible at all. I'm hoping this one is fun but I'll manage my expectations! 11mo

Megabooks This was a low pick for me. I liked the SNL parts she drew in and Kristen Seih is now one of my favorite narrators! 11mo

tpixie I just finished reading a movable feast by Hemingway and then I‘m almost done with a Paris wife about Hadley Hemingway. In both of the books the Fitzgeralds seem to be tragic figures. Maybe I should listen to this next! (edited) 2y

Oryx Yeah this one didn't do it for me and I bailed, but lots loved it. But worth a punt for 99p, you might love it 3y

Oryx I think it might be better on Kindle anyway, I read it on audio, and my main issue was tracking characters. Probably easier in print. 3y

Andrew65 @MicheleinPhilly I have been leading group discussions on these on Librarything over the past year. In fact we are due to do book 6 this week. I really like them, I like the lead character, other characters, setting and archaeological link to historical events. Good quick and engaging reads which are well written. @suzie.reads @TrishB @Tove_Reads @eanderson We Read one every few months. Would definitely recommend them.

MicheleinPhilly @rwmg That happens to me more with tv shows. We watch a LOT of Acorn and Britbox and some of the actors appear in what feels like every single crime show. So it turns into “Wait, he just killed someone??? I thought he was a DCI?” “No, that‘s on Show X.” So then I inevitably have to pause and look at IMDB for clarification. 4y
