My pick for #FictionalTraveler June: #PlaceYoudLikeToVisit This (21st!) book in the Bakeshop Mystery series is set in Costa Rica, a place I‘ve always wanted to visit. 🇨🇷 I was supposed to go there once with Starbucks International but hand to cancel for a family emergency.

This book is also one of my June #Roll100 picks: #42 Any Mystery & is an ARC I just received, so I‘m excited to start it!

Born a Crime | Trevor Noah
post image
Pickpick

Absolutely loved this one! I've never really seen much of Trevor Noah's work but he had a crazy childhood & his storytelling ability was amazing. Born in South Africa during apartheid & growing up in the wake of it, he learned to adapt himself to fit in with different groups. He speaks a ton of languages & does great impressions of his friends and family. I was laughing so much throughout and yet I learned a lot about South African history as well

TheBookHippie This is required reading here for English 12th grade. 6d
peanutnine @TheBookHippie that's amazing! As it should be 6d
willaful @peanutnine @TheBookHippie my daughter listened to it for high school as well. Excellent choice. 6d

I didn't love this one, and the ending was a little vague for my tastes. But I did enjoy the Indigenous spirituality aspect of it. The story follows five generations of Metis women as they struggle with their heritage and generational trauma. There were so many POVs but the audiobook did make it easy to follow with a full cast of narrators. The writing itself was beautifully done

Can't Get Enough | Kennedy Ryan

May reading #wrapup

Favorites:
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng &
Can‘t Get Enough (tagged) which is book 3 in the Skyland series. I just love this series so much. Kennedy Ryan gives us strong, very real women who take no shit and find partners who love them for the strong women they are without fear. 🥰

Also read:
Madam by Cari Lynn & Kellie Martin for #roll100
Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs for my #mercyreread
Both 4⭐️

Worst read ⬇️⬇️

MeganAnn Worst was Abducting Abby by S.E. Smith. Poorly written, the sexy scenes were cringey & the plot was all over the place. My mom wanted my opinion. She saw a bunch of good reviews online & others talking about how good it was… then couldn‘t believe how bad the writing was. She wanted to know if I felt the same (I do). To get the bad taste out of my brain I did a reread of Ice Planet Barbarians then gave it her as a well written example of the genre (edited) 6d

We Are the Brennans | Tracey Lange
Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A compelling family read of secrets and their lasting impact. I liked the way Lange built each chapter from a character‘s line in the preceding chapter to shift POV. I will read more from her

Translation: How to become a Lesbian in 10 steps 😄

I love that title. It's more for people who are starting to question heteronormativity, but don't know where to start. I've been through most of the steps already, but it was still fun to listen to Morel deconstructing heterosexuality as the only real thing in life. Even though the author is very inclusive, she does miss out on asexual realities. Because there are asexual lesibans, too.

PuddleJumper Asexuals are often overlooked. Not salty at all! 🤣 6d
Jari-chan @PuddleJumper Not at all 😁😁😁 6d
