This is a gripping story with many twists and turns and just when you think you have something figured out....you don't. This book you will think about long after the last page.
I saw the movie when it first came out (because Leonardo DiCaprio, duh), but honestly couldn‘t remember what happened.
This book is fast-paced, filled with tension and humorous banter, and it‘s creepily atmospheric. What an awesome setting... a mental institution all alone on an island in a hurricane. And holy plot twists!
The only possible explanation I have for forgetting that movie ending is that Leo is distracting as all hell. 😂
I must say I bought this book just because of the captivating cover (Leonardo Di Caprio helped too!), but it turned out to be an amazing thriller with a lot of mind games, riddles and mysteries.
If you have seen the movie, you could just as easily read the book because -as it always happens- the movie left out a lot of capital parts (although it's a really good one!).
I strongly recommend it!
My husband and I are watching a friend‘s kids this weekend and baby Veda here had a 5am wake up this morning 🤪 so I‘m on the struggle bus hoping that Lehane can keep me motivated. This book reads really fast and I‘m excited to see how it plays out, knowing the ending... I saw the movie years ago and remember being shocked!! This is my pick for #popsugar18 #abookmadeintoamovieyouvealreadyseen 🎥
#unpopularopinion I actually found this underwhelming. I don‘t know if it was the writing or the plot twist that I saw coming from a mile away, but I‘m a bit sad because I can‘t help but wonder if I read the same book as the rest of Litsy. This was definitely #moremehthanyeah for me. But, another #screamathon read is checked off. Longer review on my blog: https://wp.me/pKWKW-4I
I read the first 25 pages without absorbing any of it. Does that ever happen to anyone else? I probably should have started over, but I read chapters two and three tonight and the story is finally starting to sink into my brain, so I think I‘m good to keep going forward from here, but the first chapter? Yeah...no memory of that at all. 😱
#currentlyreading #screamathon #timeforbed 😴
Possibly not a good choice for bedtime reading, but that was kind of the point. 😱 Here‘s hoping it grabs me from the beginning. #screamathon
Fingers crossed that #Bailey doesn‘t decide to bark for no reason, which she likes to do. #dogsoflitsy #pitbullsoflitsy
1. Spent the weekend at a retreat with my spiritual community (left). Last night the hubs and I got last minute tickets to a hockey game, because our team was in town (right).
2. Reading Red Dragon and drinking iced coffee.
4. Hockey tickets

It‘s been a while since I bought books actually, I‘ve been too busy spending tons of money on sewing supplies and various machines. Today I went to a flea market to get some fabric I could use as muslin though, and managed to take these with me home as well!
......His left cheek bore a small scythe of a scar, and he tapped it with his index finger.
“I always start with the scar” , he said ,
“People usually ask sooner or later “
I didn‘t get too far with Shutter Island, but I remember Chuck‘s scar.
I might try another of his books sometime.
I bailed on this one. I started to remember the movie, which I found very disturbing. It‘s probably a great read , but I‘m not in the frame of mind just now.
Next up : Shutter Island. For what I think will be a total change of pace. ( from The House of Mirth) I think this one was recently recommended by @erzascarletbookgasm , So, I‘m going to give it a whirl.
1) Shutter Island. Almost exact of the book. They embellished a bit which made it better I think. Also i much prefer the movie ending.
2) Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Jennifer's Body, The Ruins, HP of course.
3) 50 shades of grey. Had a crush on Jamie Dornan since Once Upon a time. I've also seen all of those and Twilight with my mom. Kinda our thing.
4) Popcorn!!!! I like it with nacho cheese. So good!
Came home from getting nerve block injections to this lovely package from @DrJAdMerricksson Thank you so much! The owl is adorable, the reading glasses are hysterical, I ❤️ Dan Simmons, and I can‘t wait to read the tagged book. It‘ll be my first Lehane and it sounds freezer-worthy. #mybloodyvalentineswap
I‘ve been hearing so much good stuff about this book that I just had to have it!!! Missed u at the store @CoverToCoverGirl 🤗
Holy crap! That book was crazy! I was not expecting that twist and I still feel like I don‘t quite know what happened. I want to watch the movie now, even though I really don‘t like Leo DiCaprio.
Another wonderful novel from Lehane, and like Mystic River this is one which can only loosely be considered a crime novel. What starts out with two US Marshals called in to investigate a breakout on a remote institution for the criminally insane becomes progressively darker and weirder. Gripping and horrifying.
This was my second Lehane after Mystic River, and wow, what a gripping, thrilling ride! I was hooked from the beginning, the tensions high as you race through the pages. The main character is so emotionally scarred and you become invested in his character. The story is well crafted and brilliantly told, and boy, was I fooled! (cont. ⬇️)
I just want to say a huge thank you to @Gissy for going above and beyond for the #letsgetcozy swap. Living in Puerto Rico, she was still able to get my package to me on time before Hurricane Maria hit. She sent a box full of amazing gifts. She let me know that she had forgotten a couple of things in her package, and even though it was not necessary considering everything she is going through over there, she STILL sent me another amazing (TBC🔽)
Thank you Dennis Lehane for breaking me out of my slump! Only about halfway through this thriller I started earlier and I'm beyond hooked. Figured that tattoo and book sort of go together, even if it is upside down. Now if only I could get rid of the drunk frat guys making a bunch of noise outside my building 🙄
Thank you so much for my #letsgetcozy package! @Gissy I hope you are doing ok in Puerto Rico. Let us know as soon as you can! It's so funny, my boyfriend was just trying to get me to watch The Count of Monte Cristo with him last night. Love the socks! Especially love the mug, I'm a huge Game of Thrones fan and I love cats. 😻 Thank you @cobwebmoth for organizing this! Can't wait to read the book. 📚❤️📚
