squirrelbrain This has been a fascinating month of discussions. Everyone‘s insightful input on Audition helped me to understand and like it more. Equally, I came to understand some of the issues and challenges around WDS. However, WDS is still a long way ahead of Audition for me.

Lesliereadsalot I loved Wild Dark Shore, my favorite book of the year so far. I found the story compelling, the characters believable and the ending right on the money. By far the best of the two and probably all six! 5d

Kitta Definitely WDS. Audition was interesting with all the layers to it but ultimately I didn‘t like it and was frustrated reading it. I was glad it was short. WDS was much more my style of novel, atmospheric and emotional. My vote is for

TheKidUpstairs This is a much harder decision than I initially thought it would be, and I keep going back and forth. I loved both books in the reading, but Wild Dark Shore was just that much more engrossing for me. But the discussions definitely brought extra depth and interest to Audition, where I felt that discussing WDS brought out some of the flaws. But ultimately I think I have to go heart over head for this one:

Butterfinger Definitely, Wild Dark Shore. Just finished and I have to go on a shopping spree for junk food. The evocative imagery, the love that all five had for each other. It was a book definitely out of my comfort zone, and I am so glad I read it. 3d

Hooked_on_books I‘m surprised to not see the Ocean Vuong book. I expected it to be one of our picks and his first novel didn‘t work for me, so I wasn‘t happy about it. And clearly I was way off base! I am a little surprised to see Everything is Tuberculosis here. I know many find John Green appealing, but to me he‘s not the one I would want to read about TB from. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2mo

Hooked_on_books @Kitta I felt like it held me at arm‘s length and each time I felt I was finally connecting with it, the story would go in another direction. After it happened several times, I just bailed. 2mo

ImperfectCJ I totally forgot what I voted for as soon as I voted, but I was happy with the final 6, so I'm not surprised to learn that I voted for 3 of them. :-) There are definitely a few on this longlist that I'll be reading, too. 2mo

Summer is here, campers! 🏕️ Thanks to all 71 of you who voted - we have our top 6 books for #camplitsy25!

In June, we‘ll start with Audition, followed by Wild Dark Shore.

I‘ll be back in a week or so with the page breaks for Audition, which we‘ll discuss over the weekends of 7th/8th and 14th/15th June.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for bears, but also for Meg and Barbara who pop up over the weekend with the remaining 4 books!

After announcing the 6 fabulous books for #camplitsy24, Meg, Barbara and I thought you might like to see the 10 books that ‘nearly‘ made the list. (In no particular order)

James was by far our runaway winner, with 4 in 10 Littens voting for it. Next were Bear and Clear, with around a quarter of you voting for each one.

The other 3 winning books gained just a few more votes than these 10, so a close-run race!

ICYMI Camp Litsy is back! You still have until Sunday to nominate up to four books for #CampLitsy24. The books need to be published in 2024 but before mid-June.

In June, July, and August, we will read two books a month with discussion led by Me, @squirrelbrain or @BarbaraBB each Saturday. After we publish the longlist of nominees, we‘ll have voting by Google Doc to come up with the six books for Camp. Lmk if you‘d like to be tagged in posts!

We are pleased to announce a new edition of Camp Litsy🏕️

We're opening nominations for the longlist now. We invite you all to suggest 4 books to read this summer. Post your choices on Litsy with #CampLitsy24 and tag @Megabooks, @squirrelbrain and @BarbaraBB The nominated books need to be published in 2024 and by 15 June so campers can procure the final choices.

Nominations are open until 21 April. Then we'll publish the longlist for voting

Time to vote on which July #CampLitsy23 book was your favorite Yellowface or Hijab Butch Blues. I really enjoyed both books and discussions!

I‘ll announce the winner Wednesday morning, so get your vote in before then. The winner will face Bandit Queens and August‘s winner for Best of Camp.

Hooked_on_books I liked both of these books. But I thought HBB was such a beautiful look at how someone deeply connects with their religion (a trait I do not share) and a demonstration of how to find your way in the world when you don‘t fit what others want you to be. So my vote goes to

Your camp hosts thought you‘d like to see the next 6 books for #camplitsy23 - those that nearly made it but didn‘t!

It was very close with the winners changing with almost every vote. Questions and August Blue were very close, only missing out by a single vote each. The remaining 4 books received a few votes less, but all were on the same score.

And I make no apologies for using the UK cover of Big Swiss; so much nicer than the US one! 🤣

TheBookHippie @monalyisha she went to college here. She was and could still be a member of Hillsong church. I don‘t follow her. One of her first books we read and her author note was what made me put the two together. I didn‘t realize they were the same person. 2y

monalyisha @TheBookHippie Hmm. Something to keep an eye out for, I guess…but I‘m going to reserve judgment. College is a weird time. Everyone‘s still forming themselves and their own opinions, separating their individuality out from how they were raised. Maybe (hopefully) she‘s changed her stance. At the very least, it seems like it‘d be challenging to write & widely publish so much steamy sex before marriage while pursuing an evangelical Christian ideology. 2y

TheBookHippie @monalyisha There‘s always that hope. I agree about college. I only know as recent as 2017 which is 5 years after.. . And a long time ago. People change -let‘s hope she has. I can‘t unsee the damage. Many books to read. I just chose not to read these. 2y
