#TheBookThief is one of my absolute favourite books 📖, and I‘m happy I own the English version now too! Although, I have to admit that this book is actually better in the German translation?! It works so much better without random German phrases sprinkled in.

I‘m spending the long weekend at my parents and today, we used our small boat 🚤 for the 1st time this year and enjoyed the sun ☀️.

My books for the long and hopefully warm & sunny ☀️ weekend! I‘m already done with my reread of #Circe (5 stars ofc), and now I‘m reading The Book Thief, one of my 3 favourite books for the first time I English! I‘m very nervous about Bridge of Clay, that book has been waiting for 4 years but I‘m just too scared it won‘t meet my (high) expectations!

This book was quite disappointing, compared to Last Night at the Telegraph Club. I really didn‘t like that the romance was an affair. The main character wasn‘t very interesting, and all the other relationships fell flat.

Ove would have loved Visby, Sweden 🇸🇪.

On Wednesday, we went on a cycling 🚴‍♀️ tour on Gotland (2nd biggest island of the Baltic Sea). We saw lots of sheep 🐑 and lots of sheep 🐑 statues. The ice cream 🍦 shop is called „Gotlato“, which is hilarious.

Next destination: Gdańsk, Poland 🇵🇱

This is the Neptune Fountain, and the house behind is called Artus Court. The citizens wanted to thank the Sea God for the flourishing trade, and the rich merchants wanted to compare themselves to the Knights of the Round Table. Gdańsk was bombed thrice during WWII and they rebuilt everything beautifully. The Museum of WWII is a must-visit.

Today, we walked through Gamla Stan (Old Town) and I had time for a short visit into this lovely bookstore focused on fantasy! They had lots of English books as well, so I assume that the Swedish translation probably takes a while and that not every book might even get one. 🇸🇪📕🗺️⚓️

First day of sightseeing in #Stockholm! We visited the Vasamuseum, where you can see an original war ship from 1626, which immediately sank after leaving the port. Then, we wandered through the shopping malls to the giant Stadthus, and finally went to the Ice Bar (-5 Degrees!) and enjoyed a VERY cold 🍹.
Looking forward to tomorrow.

I reread #Beartown and #UsAgainstThem by #FredrikBackman yesterday, for the first time since 2019 (when I also visited Stockholm), and today I found the Swedish original in a bookstore at the Centralstation 🇸🇪. I also saw a lot of other Swedish translation, and I really hated the covers. Apparently, they like real people on the covers 🙃.

I‘m doing my internship for English at a school rn and it‘s extremely overwhelming, loud and stressful. I‘m also dragging myself through HoO, a series I started ten years ago and now finally want to finish. It‘s difficult b/c I find 3 of the 7 insufferable, the plot is clumsy and the books are way too long.

Thankfully this was only 0,99€ on Kindle. The characters have one very annoying trait - Emma is obsessed with love, Sophia thinks love doesn‘t exist. Together with their terrible friend group, they want to make a film. Sophia can‘t shut up about artsy French movies and never explains what artsy means. There is a lot of lying & manipulation and a half-cooked coming-out story.

Okay, I‘ve worked myself through a few old YA fiction favourite this week. I read Simon vs…, The Exact Opposite of Okay, The Female of the Species, Girl made of Stars, Exit pursued by a bear and We are Okay. Apart from the last one, they all had #HarryPotter references. Which proves how big HP was in the last ten years, but also how bad these references aged.

I‘m in Berlin this weekend. This is a memorial at the Bahnhof Friedrichstraße. It‘s called Trains to Death, Trains to Life 1938-1945 and it remembers the deported families. Most of them were deported to the East, where they were brutally murdered. Only some of them had the chance to flee Germany and to survive. Yesterday was the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. We remember.
