Waaaait, not yet!! I need this for June, not May!! #CampLitsy24 #LibraryProblems

monkeygirlsmama I've been stuck on hold for this one myself. Better get it while the gettin's good. LoL 11h
BarbaraJean @monkeygirlsmama Hahaha—I know, right?! The same kind of thing happened with Clear—I already had it checked out when it was picked for Camp Litsy. I went ahead and read it because the odds of it coming around again in time are too slim! 11h
Kitta I might not get my library hold for this in time!! I think last I checked it said 20 weeks 😬 I might have to buy a copy. 9h
BarbaraJean @Kitta The hold lists were VASTLY different between print copies and digital in my library system. The ebook and audio versions both had a 20-ish week wait, but when I put a hold on the print copy I was 3rd in line! Wish I could lend this library print copy your way 🙃 (edited) 9h
Ruthiella Just take good notes! 😂 Holds are insane - you never know when a forecasted 10 week wait turns into to pick up tomorrow! 7h

The irises in our backyard are just gorgeous right now! On the left, #CampLitsy24 June picks and some from the longlist. It was an embarrassment of riches as always!

In the center, the two I picked up on #IndependentBookstoreDay. One Japanese in translation plus a short story collection (of course). Have you read the Japanese one @BarbaraBB ?

On the right, some additional library finds!

britt_brooke I want to hear your thoughts on Headshot. I listened to it recently. 14h
kspenmoll Beautiful irises! 14h
Megabooks @britt_brooke yes! I heard about it when @Chelsea.Poole nominated it for camp litsy. I‘ll let you know when I get to it. 14h

Megabooks @kspenmoll thank you! 14h
BarbaraBB No I haven‘t, so am looking forward to your thoughts! I love all your #CampLitsy books! I purchased Irena too and am curious about 14h
AmyG I just won Real Americans from Goodreads and was beyond thrilled. 14h
Tamra Indeed, gorgeous! 13h
Foragingfantasy I always thought the purple ones smelled like rootbeer when I was a kid. 🤷‍♀️ 12h
Daisey That looks like a great stack of books and some truly beautiful irises! 10h
Deblovestoread Beautiful! Books and flowers 💜 10h
Chelsea.Poole 1. Those irises! 😍 2. Nice stack!! 3.I bet you read Headshot before I EVER do 😆 4. Let me know if it‘s good 😉 9h
Hooked_on_books The short story collection in the middle is fantastic. I think you‘ll really like it. 8h

Let's Go Camping! | Jan Mader
post image

After announcing the 6 fabulous books for #camplitsy24, Meg, Barbara and I thought you might like to see the 10 books that ‘nearly‘ made the list. (In no particular order)

James was by far our runaway winner, with 4 in 10 Littens voting for it. Next were Bear and Clear, with around a quarter of you voting for each one.

The other 3 winning books gained just a few more votes than these 10, so a close-run race!

We‘d love to hear your thoughts!

ChaoticMissAdventures Greta and Valdin has been one of my favorites of the year, I hope this post gets more to check in out!! Thank you hosts for all your work on Camp! 15h
TheBookHippie Knife I‘m reading asap now 🙃 . 15h
RaeLovesToRead I got Warm Hands of Ghosts, The Familiar and Book of Doors on my TBR.... looking at these covers though... I need to investigate the book with the trippy blue trees! 15h
Kimberlone lol all but one of the books I voted for were on this list 15h
Susanita Three of these were on my list! 15h
squirrelbrain It‘s one of my favourites too @ChaoticMissAdventures - I wonder if it didn‘t get more votes because a lot of us have already read it? 15h
dabbe Only one of my choices made the summer list. I'm a horrible picker! 😂 14h
squirrelbrain @TheBookHippie - I have a #netgalley ARC of Knife. I was saving it just in case it got nominated (along with *many* other books 🤣) so probably need to get to it now. 14h
squirrelbrain It‘s a fab cover isn‘t it?! @RaeLovesToRead 14h
squirrelbrain @Kimberlone @Susanita @dabbe - there were SO many great books, though, the votes were bound to be reasonably spread out. 14h
Leniverse I loved Greta & Valdin, but didn't vote for it since I've already read it. Two of my nominations are on that runner-up list, so I definitely have to read them! 14h
BarbaraBB Great collection of books! I couldn‘t resist purchasing 14h
TrishB @BarbaraBB I‘ve brought that too. And Whale Fall. 13h
Meshell1313 Ooh I‘ll def pick up a few of these to read soon. I‘m hearing fantastic things about Knife! 13h
Hooked_on_books An interesting mix! I‘m glad the Emily Henry didn‘t make our list because I have zero interest in it. And I clearly have weird tastes, as nothing I voted for (or nominated) made it on here. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 13h
youneverarrived Interesting to see what almost made it! None of these were on my list but I do want to read Greta and Valdin. 13h
JamieArc Whale Fall is one that only got on my radar because of the nominations. I‘m super intrigued by it, so I‘m sure it‘s going to make its way to my summer reading list. 13h
BarbaraJean This is so interesting to see! Several of these I thought (or hoped) would make it onto the final lineup, and several I‘m glad didn‘t 😂 Greta & Valdin is on my list to read. 13h
Roary47 Aww so close. 🥰💛 12h
Karisimo Several of these were my picks! 11h
Suet624 @Hooked_on_books I‘m with you. 10h
Suet624 Thank you for letting us see all of us. Really interesting. 10h
Ruthiella Nice! I voted for the Leigh Bardugo because I wanted a good excuse to finally try one of her books! 😂 8h
julieclair Thank you for this! And for ALL the work that goes into Camp! 7h
Larkken Very cool! I love seeing what everyone is excited about this year! 6h
Chelsea.Poole I was hoping the tagged would make the list. Really look forward to reading 4h
Caroline2 These all sound so good. I want to read all the books!! I may swap Warm Hands for Bear if it proves too difficult to order it here. There‘s a long wait on Amazon at the moment. 😬 1h
squirrelbrain @TrishB @JamieArc @chelsea.poole - I just finished Whale Fall. I liked it but not as much as I thought I would. And I‘m not sure how much discussion we would have had, as it‘s very short. 1h
squirrelbrain @leniverse @youneverarrived - Greta is so good, but I also didn‘t vote for it as I‘d read it. I think you‘ll love it too, Katie. 1h
squirrelbrain @Meshell1313 - I‘m going to read Knife soon as well. 1h
squirrelbrain @Hooked_on_books @suet624 - not weird tastes, just eclectic! 🤪 1h
batsy I've got Irena Rey on hold and am excited to read it! 1h

I almost skipped because I wasn‘t super jazzed about any of their choices this month, but I enjoy getting the box so much and like continuing to support @AardvarkBookClub . Don‘t forget to pick up James for #CampLitsy24 as an add-on! #aardvark

AardvarkBookClub Thanks so much for the support friend! We appreciate you more than you know 🥹🫶🥰 17h
Megabooks @AardvarkBookClub I‘ve been a member since month one! Love everything you‘re doing for the book community!! 🤩🫶🏻 14h
BarbaraBB How cool that they know how supportive you‘ve been 💕 14h
vlwelser I'm struggling this month also. The main character in the Vietnamese book has the same name as one of my favorite employees so I may just randomly pick that. 9h

Well, #sdbookcrawl is over, and I didn't collect any prizes, but I did get a second book for #CampLitsy24 today! And I found out that my local indie bookstore is having a book club about this one in May...quite tempting!

BarbaraBB Exciting! You can share your insights with us in June! 2d

Mehso-so

I liked this but didn‘t love it as much as I wanted to. It was sold as a novel of food & murder but it‘s really about journalist Rika navigating work, friendships and society‘s expectations of women in Japan. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of food & her life in Tokyo & the unexpected turns the characters take. But it became repetitive & was more a coming of age than a suspenseful mystery. Authentic & thought-provoking but too long.

BarbaraBB Oooh that‘s disappointing. We‘re going to read this for #CampLitsy24 and my expectations are high - just like yours. We‘ll see! 3d
sarahbarnes What @BarbaraBB said - I‘ve been looking forward to this one, too; disappointed to see it didn‘t meet your expectations. 3d
Abailliekaras @BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes we did it on the podcast and Annie loved it, so I might be in the minority! 2d
Cathythoughts Oh dear, I just got this one. Fingers crossed… 2d
Abailliekaras @Cathythoughts I‘m sure you‘ll love it! The food is 🔥 1d

Stone Yard Devotional | CHARLOTTE. WOOD
post image

Two books given to me by a friend / neighbour. Stone Yard is brand new - she loved it but ‘never keeps books‘. Great for me! 😃

That inspired her to get the other book, which she found rather depressing and didn‘t enjoy as much, but it‘s a free book, so….

(We did just give them our barely-used travel crate for their new puppy so a fair exchange I think! ☺️)

Tamra Lucky you! I‘d really like to read Stone Yard. 4d
jlhammar An author I‘ve been meaning to try. I really like that Stone Yard cover. 4d
charl08 Stone Yard's on my list too - waiting for the library hold! 4d

squirrelbrain @Tamra @jlhammar @charl08 - it was first on my radar as a possible for the #womensprize and then I *nearly* nominated it for #camplitsy24. 4d
LeeRHarry I‘m seeing Charlotte Wood at the Melbourne Writers Festival next month - I have really enjoyed her earlier books. Looking forward to Stoneyard Devotional. 4d
BarbaraBB I read The Natural Way and have another of her books on my shelves 3d
squirrelbrain These will be the first I‘ve read by this author @LeeRHarry - enjoy the Festival! 3d
Oryx Stone Yard Devotional high on on my mental tbr list - looking forward to hearing what you think of it. 3d
squirrelbrain I‘m hoping to get to it soon @Oryx …story of my life though so maybe next year sometime….! 🤪 3d

You Are Here: A Novel | David Nicholls
post image

Bought this on Saturday morning at The Stripey Badger bookshop in the Yorkshire Dales but couldn‘t post about it until now, for two reasons:

1. To celebrate #camplitsy24 launch weekend, we actually went camping and had no phone or Wi-Fi signal.

2. Can you imagine if I (as a camp host!) had actually posted this longlisted book yesterday before most of the camp books were revealed?! There would have been rioting in bookshops around the world! 🤣🤣

RaeLovesToRead I vote this as the Camp WILD CARD haha 💃💃 4d
MicheleinPhilly Another one I had in my Waterstones cart! They lost a pretty penny from me. 4d
