Afghani Burani Banjan (Afghan Eggplant and Tomato with Yogurt Sauce).

The lentils are undercooked, and I could live without the yogurt sauce (but I don‘t think I got the right kind of yogurt). But otherwise it‘s good. I love eggplant!

I didn‘t expect this book to be any easy read, but it‘s so much tougher than I thought it‘d be. The scene with the pomegranates was heartbreaking.

🧠 I like to bake when I‘m feeling down. I don‘t actually have much a sweet tooth, so I take what I bake to work with me. Making other people happy is an added bonus. And cuddling with Maya always helps, of course.

🧠 I left work ON TIME on Tuesday! I never do that and it was really nice.

Thank you for the tag @Patchshank ☺️

I‘ve been seeing lots of posts about #BFC2022, so I hope you won‘t mind if I join!

My May goals are:
🌺 My lower belly pooch is really starting to bother me, so I‘m trying a 30 Day Ab Challenge.
🌺 I‘ve been really bad about working through lunch. Every day I‘m going to take a break at least long enough to read a chapter of my book. If it takes two minutes, it takes two minutes…(cont‘d)⬇️

Maggie4483 ↪️…and if it takes an hour, it probably means my office mate is distracting me. 🙃And finally….🌺 Did you know May is Salad Month?!?! Im going to eat a salad as a meal at least once a day. I love salad, so this shouldn‘t be too hard. And I know salads aren‘t necessarily healthy. But the goal here is just to get more veggies in my diet. (edited) 3w
mcipher I am right there with you on the veggies! Love salads but I‘ve been struggling to get more veggies lately 3w
Maggie4483 @mcipher it‘s the prep work for me. I‘m way too cheap to buy pre-cut produce, but all the chopping and slicing required for all the good-for-you food is just so time consuming. 3w

This is so true. When you‘re a “fleshy girl” (as I am), you learn real quick to steel yourself against all the bulls**t that people think they have a right to say to you when you‘re fat.
And…I bet it didn‘t even OCCUR to this girl that he might be referring to her weight…until he rushed to make SURE she didn‘t think that?. (From “Up the Coulé”-Hamlin Garland).

Even though I‘m almost 2 weeks late finishing this, I just loved it so much! It‘s more a collection of anecdotes as opposed to a continuous story, but all the stories were so charming. Larry‘s relationship with his mother reminded me of stories of my dad (whose name was also Larry) and grandmother. I even found myself googling scorpions with a new appreciation (I mean, I still don‘t want to meet one…but I see now the fascination). And ⬇️

2. The tagged book had such a shocking surprise that I had to go back and reread it several times.

Not really book related, but how is it that little kids are so good at cheering you up? Yesterday, my boss‘s 2-year-old granddaughter came to visit him at work, and I heard her toddling down the hallway asking “Where‘s Miss Maggie?” Today at 2nd job, a member and former coworker came in with her little girl, who walked right up to the desk and said “I picked you a flower!” ⬇️

I know this is supposed to be satire, but it was gratuitous and, quite frankly, kinda gross. And while the writing style was certainly unique, it quickly became distracting. I think I might not be quite smart enough for this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️
That said, there were some funny parts (the running joke about the missing batteries is hilarious, albeit a little vulgar), and I think I liked the ending. (CONT‘D ⬇️)…

Maggie4483 My cousin loaned this to me, and I gave her Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates. After I gave her Zombie (heavily based on Jeffrey Dahmer and VERY disturbing), I worried what she would think of me for recommending it. It only took until Ch. 2 of Pygmy to realize I had nothing to worry about. We are definitely cut from the same cloth 👯‍♀️ 2mo

What can I say. As with most short story collections, a few were okay to almost good, most were forgettable, and some REALLY stretched to fit the theme. I also think it‘s hard to do fantasy in short story-there‘s too much world-building to cover, and not much left for the plot. And then by the time I figured out one world, it was time to move on to the next.

Nora gets invited to a weekend-long bachelorette party for someone she hasn‘t seen or spoken to in a decade…who has a known mean streak…AND Nora isn‘t even INVITED to the wedding. And she just, like, GOES!!!?!!!??? My introverted, socially anxious self doesn‘t buy it.
The only reason I finished was my morbid need to know what happened.
