This is a unique book on multiple points of view on being deaf vs. hearing. Love the characters.

I could not put it down. There was so many twists and turns and everyone had their own secrets. Not your usual trapped in a cabin book. I love Alice Feeney‘s writing.

EvieBee I just got the audiobook. Can‘t wait! 1w

The Investigator | John Sandford
Pickpick

I thoroughly loved The Investigator! It is the first book in the new Letty Davenport series. Letty Davenport is the adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport. She is a real go getter, tough as nails, extremely smart, witty and makes very ballsy decisions. Her sidekick, Kaiser, keeps her grounded and focused. They are sent on a mission to investigate thefts of oil in a small Texas town. Along the way they run into a situation with a Militia group.

This is an amazing look into prior civil war in the South. How races crossed yet were still treated poorly. I really enjoyed the attention to detail and character development. I would definitely recommend this read.

This was an interesting story of a professor going on a research journey to visit a tribe. It was a little distracting with the footnotes. I really love the descriptions of the tribe and actions and sounds. I felt like I was there.

When the Corn is Waist High is my first read by Jeremy Scott. After reading it I want to go back and read all his books.
This tale has a cursing priest, Father Solomon Lancaster, who is also the town Sheriff. The cursing totally fits his character, He also sleeps with women. He‘s a vigilante too. His dry humor goes into the disquieting human darkness.

Kempfme It‘s set in the cute small town of Crooked Creek, Indiana, and it takes me home to everyone knows everyone.
It's very entertaining, one minute you read about a person getting killed, and then next you are eating comfort food. There are so many twists.

The Only Good Indians | Stephen Graham Jones
Pickpick

This is my second read of Stephen Graham Jones. The Only Good Indians is a dark horror tale of revenge and culture. What happens when one diverts from tradition?

This was more organized than My Heart is a Chainsaw, and it has the gore mixed into the story more. I would definitely recommend this to a horror nut.

This book gave me ready player one vibes but for horror movies. It was also a little Glee like. It seemed a little bit rushed as well.

I haven't read the first 18 books in the series and it wasn't an issue for me at all. The author did a fantastic job at bringing in the character back stories and relationships, so much so that I felt like this could have been a stand alone book. When an exonerated man is assassinated shortly after his release, his victim‘s father is a slam dunk case for the murder. Yet Dismas is on the case as things get complicated when his client disappears

Freaks: A Novel | Brett Riley
Mehso-so

This is my first read by Brett Riley. A group of bullied high schoolers open an ancient portal that releases creatures into the town and some how gives them special powers. This gave me some horror/superhuman comic book vibes. There were times that there was too little information or too much.

Thanks NetGalley and Imbriflex Audio.

his was my first read by Alice Feeney. After reading this double unreliable narrative, I need to go ahead and read her other book rock, paper, scissors. His & Hers is a fast page turner that will keep you guessing.

The Bluest Eye | Toni Morrison
Pickpick

The Bluest Eyes is Toni Morrison‘s first book. It‘s about a girl in Ohio that wishes her eyes to be blue like the blonde haired white girls because they are beautiful, and clean unlike how she feels. It was very moving and emotional. There are some triggering topics that were a little uncomfortable to read, but still a good read.

Girl In Ice | Erica Ferencik
Mehso-so

A linguist is sent to Greenland to help translate a girl that was thawed from a block of ice, the same place that her twin brother dead under interesting circumstances.
It was a great idea, and I could not stop reading, but the plot was slow and the story line of why the brother died was just brushed aside and the reasoning behind the girl coming back to life after being frozen was so implausible.

I'm not sure how to categorize this interesting read. It's part dark fantasy, and thriller all rolled into one.
The story involves a cult which call themselves 'The Son's of Elijah', who believe that by killing mass numbers their bodies will be reincarnated.
When an FBI Agent gets assigned to investigate the cult. she comes across psychiatrist, who specializes in helping people remember their past lives,

Kempfme It was slow to get into due to the detail of the visions that the patients were experiencing. Yet, I enjoyed the diversity of the characters.

Did I Say You Could Go | Melanie Gideon
Mehso-so

A woman is obsessed with her best friend to be point of being controlling. In school they become outcasts. Later they reunite when their girls' become friends. The girls soon part ways as well. There are a lot of lies and deception, which make you wander were they truly friends.
I liked the change in POV, but the characters were not likable, and nothing really blew me away. It's more of a family drama than a thriller, but was pretty good.

Evan is the “Nowhere Man“ that helps those that have no other choice. The head of a cartel's daughter has been taken by a rival cartel.
This is my first read by Gregg Hurwitz, and though this is the seventh book in a series. I was not lost as to what was going on. I look forward to read the other books in the series.
I enjoyed the fast pace and moments of comic relief. I would compare this to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

Dead Silence | S.A. Barnes
Pickpick

Dead Silence is a mix of Titanic and The Shining. A luxury cruise spaceship is found after decades of being missing. Those that go to investigate are found in a world of delusions and confusion.

This is a great science fiction horror read by S.A. Barnes that does have a little bit of romance, but it doesn't overshadow the action. There are moments that get a little confused about what is happening, but it seems intentional.

This was my first read by Jennifer L. Armentrout, so I was not sure what to expect. A teenager is able to see ghosts and spirits. She is protected from demons by a shapeshifter. I liked the action but was not interested in the fact that the love scenes seemed more important than the actual plot.

Inhibitor Phase | Alastair Reynolds
Mehso-so

This was my first read by Alastair Reynolds, so I was not sure what to expect. I really enjoyed the beginning. The idea of a group of people trying to hide from extinction from another group called Wolves, and then coming in contact with another group of refugees that might directed the Wolves to the original group. The story kind of falls apart when a character has two identities. Not sure if I will be reading the rest of this series.

Pickpick

This is the second in the Atlee Pine series. Atlee is taking sometime from the FBI to go search for clues on what happened to her sister the night she went missing when they were kids. Once she is in town she finds herself into a murder investigation. Baldacci tells a great tale. Looking forward to reading the next book of the series.
