Time for the bookish discussion question of the day 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! I‘m idea-less today 😆🙈! Hey, I have done, like, a year or two of these things 😁. Here it is: Which bookish question(s) do you want to ask your fellow Littens? #BookTalk

Prairiegirl_reading -Who encouraged your love of reading? -Where do you find book recs (like podcasts or certain bookstagram account, fave librarian or friend with similar tastes)? -Do you have a “book twin” (someone who always likes the books you do)? -Library, new or used? -Have you Marie Kondo‘d your book collection? 2d
SW-T @Prairiegirl_reading -No one in my family read but my mom encouraged me by taking me to the library when I was young. -Find recs all over - magazines, previews in the back of books, friends, podcasts, Litsy, etc. -Have a friend with similar tastes. We keep each other‘s TBRs full. -Library, new, and used. -Yes, I Kondo‘d my collection since my tastes have changed over the years. 2d
SW-T @MrBook What‘s your favorite genre? What book do you recommend the most to people? 2d
See All 8 Comments
CherylRussell Favorite bookish podcast? What fictional places would you like to visit and why? If you could be a character in a book, who would you be and why? (always a “why” 😁). Recycle some of those questions if it‘s been awhile. 🙂 2d
Librariana Do you *gasp* judge books by their cover? What are your thoughts on "movie tie-in" editions? Do you frequent your local library or do you prefer to purchase books? What is your favorite way to consume media - print, digital, audio? Outside of Litsy, what are your other favorite resources for book recommendations? 2d
Cailey_Mac I‘m a mood reader myself, but after organizing my books, I feel overwhelmed by my unread-but-sound-amazing books. My question is how do you choose what to read next when you have a bunch of great choices? 2d
CoverToCoverGirl You asked! 😂 2d
8little_paws I honestly do not know how you have pulled this series off and have come up with so many questions!! 2d

Back at the old homestead this #MemorialDay weekend! Seeing the #Punxsutawney half of the family. About time I see my mom, I haven‘t seen her since before Mother‘s Day 🙈! 2 of the dogs, the horse we have left, part of the fruit orchard, and my brothers cutting the grass waaay out back. I used to ski down that mountain out toward the left of the picture & another mountain out to the right. Beautiful day! Got some audiobooks read on the way out! 😎

Time for the bookish discussion question of the day 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Here it is: When you finish a book, do you usually take some length of time to reflect on it all or do you start right into another book? #BookTalk

LapReader Right into the next one. Life is short and there are many books to read. 3d
Billypar I usually read some short stories in between novels. 3d
CoverToCoverGirl Next one please! 3d
See All 17 Comments
Shvonne I usually wait until the next day to start a new book. If I have to read something the same day I read a comic 3d
writerlibrarian I wait, especially when the book was a dud. I find refuge on AO3 for a day. Today was that kind of day. 3d
Davor It depends on the book and how much it affected me. For books with ambiguous endings, I love searching for theories online to see how people interpreted it. But for the most part, I'd say that I move on pretty quickly 😄 3d
Geeklet Bounce right into the next one unless I‘m really driven to understand a book more. When I‘m in a reading mood, I‘m normally obsessed over the subject matter or genre so I‘m normally frantic to absorb as much as I can. 3d
LibrarianRyan Depends on the book I just finished. Books that leave me in a rut are the ones that leave me thinking. 3d
SW-T Depends on the book I‘ve finished. 3d
rwmg Finish the book, write short reviews for LT and Litsy, read other people's reviews, start new book 3d
SaturnDoo I keep on reading because I usually have several on the go. My time for reflection is usually when I can't read or listen 🤣 3d
kspenmoll Since I read more than 1book at a time, I do reflect on my reading while in another book simultaneously. 3d
ravenlee Mostly just dive into the next book, although I tend to keep thinking as I go. 3d
CouronneDhiver Write my review on here and move on! 👍🏽 3d
Prairiegirl_reading I get frustrated when I don‘t know what to read to next so I tend to just move on. 2d
Gissy I need time to process what I read. 2d
BooknerdsLife It depends on the book,if it‘s a good one I‘ll try to think about it more & try to write a review, otherwise move on to the next right away 2d

I love this city! #NYC, one of my two hometowns!

For you fans of “Hamilton”, this is the dueling grounds. This park is on the Weehawken cliffs overlooking the Hudson River and the City, and it‘s named Hamilton Park—and this street is Hamilton Place—as a result.

A short bus ride from the Time Square area—$3 one way, so if you have to go back into the city if you‘re staying there, it‘s a $6 round-trip. No traffic, the ride is 10 minutes tops.

JanuarieTimewalker13 Love Weehawken...is that Boulevard East? Someone said they changed the name? I lived in Hoboken years ago...another cool town!! Love that part of Jersey, it really is West NY (I know West NY is an actual town too). No, I‘m wrong, I think someone told me that River Road isn‘t River Road anymore. (edited) 1w
MrBook @JanuarieTimewalker13 Just off of Blvd E! Lived in W NY for a time 👍🏻. Ummm, hmmm, it has changed A LOT over the last 20 years, but I think River Road has maintained its name. 1w

Where‘s all the #Massachusetts Littens? 😁

After #NewYork, this may wind up being the easiest state to gather enough authors for one of these lists 😱. They just kept coming and coming! It helps having Boston and a few very highly-rated universities.

Part 1/6. Authors who were born, died, or resided, in The Bay State.

#BookNDinner! I have to take a minute and—I don‘t know—release. This has happened to me in my life twice before—it‘s always overwhelming & humbling for me. I saw a colleague today I don‘t normally get the chance to see, & she gave me a Red Lobster gift card 😱🙈*happy tear*. It‘s like a...I don‘t know, group networking thing going on, I‘ve been getting so much generosity from folks 😱. I got lobster, shrimp, crab, mashed potatoes, & salad. 😋

PurpleyPumpkin Aww, how very thoughtful. And I‘m sure this has happened right when you needed it! Relax and enjoy. 😊 2w
TheBookHippie Oh I want your opinion on the book!!!! 2w
AmyG How kind. Enjoy. I hope this book pulls you in. I loved it. 2w

Time for the bookish discussion question of the day 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Here it is: Do you like to read outside when the weather permits? #BookTalk

StellaDz If I have a bit of protection I‘ll read outside in bad weather. Love reading when it‘s raining with thunder! 2w
SaturnDoo Yes. I like to go out in the early evening on our back patio/porch and read. Sometimes I sit on the park bench on our front porch and read ☺ 2w
JoyBlue Yes, especially if I'm beach/poolside with a drink! 🌞🍹 😋 2w

Josiedlove Yes, while the sun sets 2w
GripLitGrl Absolutely reading outdoors is my fave🙌 2w
Lindy Yes, in the shade, as long as the mosquitoes aren‘t active. 2w
bookandbedandtea I don't hate it but, like @Lindy, shade is required and biting bugs just send me back inside. 2w
Kimberlone Yes! That‘s how I get most of my reading done in the summer. I have a hammock specifically for reading that I set up in the front yard. 2w
Megara Yes! I just have to be sure to have a shady spot or sunglasses on. 2w
CoverToCoverGirl Yes under the giant oak tree in my backyard next to my flower garden. 😎 2w
aprilpohren I love reading outside when the weather is nice! Especially if it is by a lake or any body of water! So peaceful! 2w
Lcsmcat In the right weather, yes. 2w

Alright, where are our #Vermont Littens?! New author list of authors who were born or died or resided in The Green Mountain State! Heavy representation from the Burlington area, but that‘s to be expected.

Part 1/3.

Have you read any of these authors‘ works?!

#LitsyLovesLibraries #MrBooksLists

Suet624 So I'm in Vermont ... I don't think there are many Vermonters on Litsy unfortunately. Believe it or not, there are many Vermont writers missing on your three lists. Jeffrey Lent, Katherine Patterson, Julia Alvarez, Joseph Citro, and Bill McKibben are just a few of the missing. I just heard a podcast about how many authors there were in Vermont. It's a staggering number for such a small state. 2w
MrBook @Suet624 More Vermonters, more Vermonters 😁! You have a beautiful state. I‘d love to add more—please, let me know, it would be most appreciated. 👍🏻👍🏻🙌🏻 If you‘d like to email them to me, jasonvigorito@gmail 2w
Suet624 Let me work on it and I‘ll get back to you. And I just saw that you had Citro on your list! 2w

Time for the bookish discussion question of the day 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Here it is: My reading time‘s been almost non-existent for almost 2 months 😩. I‘ve read books, and you see me posting them with my meals, but a half-hour or less a day is nnnno good for me. Has frustrated me to no end. I legitimately have a bunch of thinner books on my TBR. Is it cheating to read a bunch of those to get back on track with my year-end reading goal? #BookTalk

LibrarianRyan absolutely not! You go for it. 2w
WitBeyndMehsure Reading is reading! Under 200 page books and short story collections make me feel like I‘m actually getting somewhere when my time is as limited as it is! 2w
SW-T Definitely not! 2w
See All 40 Comments
RealLifeReading Not at all! I read comics which sometimes are quite thin and I count those! (edited) 2w
ChasingOm Absolutely not! Graphic novels can be great to help boost your reading too. 😄 2w
LapReader After my marriage broke up I couldn‘t read for 2 weeks it was terrible. You will improve trust me. 2w
PirateJenny Not at all! Sometimes you just need that just right read to get you out of the slump. I've had virtually no reading time myself lately. More motion sickness than normal on the bus, more migraines, super busy at work. I know how you feel. 2w
TheReadingMermaid When I came back from the hospital from my mental break I could not read it all for at least two months. What brought me back was reading to my son picture books at night. Then moving on from there I started with little fluffy books. then slowly I started making my way back to my usual. I don't read nearly as much as I did before but I'm getting back to it. 2w
TheReadingMermaid My point is don't stress yourself out, reading will come back to you. It always comes back to those who genuinely love to read. You've been through a trauma and you have to give yourself time to heal. 2w
MicrobeMom Too me a book is a book no matter the size. Just read and enjoy! 2w
AmyG How about something ligjt? For me, sometimes something light, where I don‘t have to think so much, helps. It will come back to you. Like @TheReadingMermaid said. (edited) 2w
rretzler Absolutely not. I‘ll echo what everyone else has said - a book is a book and reading is reading. Find what makes you happy and read it (and absolutely count it) whether it is 2 pages or 2,000. Sometimes I read a short book just to help myself get back in a good mindset (especially before or after a chunkster.) 2w
Blueberry Definitely not. They are already on your TBR. 2w
xxjenadanxx If you want to read them, who cares how big they are? Do it! 2w
rjsthumbelina I agree with what most have said. Read whatever your heart desires. And I will add that I have no idea why people police each other's reading/progress on their reading goals! Whatever you want to count should count bc it's YOUR reading challenge 2w
BookwormAHN Absolutely not, also audio books might help too. 2w
tournevis No. 2w
JanuarieTimewalker13 If you are reading, you‘re doing well! I go through peaks and valleys depending upon what is occurring in my life. If a thin book gives you a sense of accomplishment, it‘s a good thing. You make the rules, that‘s the beauty of mood reading🌞 (edited) 2w
Lcsmcat Of course it‘s not “cheating.” Shakespeare‘s plays can be performed in 2 hours and read in less time than that, but no one would claim that wasn‘t reading. Try a little Oscar Wilde - short funny plays might be just the right length for the time you have. 2w
OrangeMooseReads Not cheating at all. I‘m not sure how one can cheat at reading to begin with. 2w
8little_paws If getting your reading goal back on track is what kicks you into gear to read more and feel better, then you should absolutely do it! 2w
umbrellagirl A book is a book. Go for it. You can always read a chunkster later if you feel like you need something more. 2w
Maggie_Reads No. Sometimes we just can‘t commit to any “heavy”. I do the same thing. I hate not reading but when I can‘t commit to a book that requires time and attention, I read a light, quick read to keep my reading momentum. 2w
Cailey_Mac I don‘t think reading anything is “cheating”. Sometimes reading a few thinner books helps boost your reading confidence and makes you enjoy it more, as you feel you are more on target rather than worrying that you‘ve barely finished a book yet this month. I tend to listen to audio books when I‘m feeling frustrated and antsy about my reading goals, and it helps me feel more focused and committed when I can finish a few that way. 2w
Cailey_Mac I also noticed after reading a 500+ fantasy novel, I‘ve been following up by reading a light and fluffy contemporary, usually 300 pages or less as a ‘palette cleanser‘😅📖 it‘s been working! 2w
Kimberlone I have also had a difficult time fitting in reading the past couple months. Listening to audiobooks has definitely helped! 2w
rwmg If you can't read a big book because you're worried about the numbers for your challenge/goal, it's time to adjust the goal 2w
rwmg Because it is too restrictive 2w
Suet624 Go for it!! 2w
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Not cheating at all. 2w
teebe Nope. Reading is reading. 2w
mrp27 Nope. 2w
BookishRedhead Nope. Not cheating. If it helps you get back into reading then do it 2w
Lizpixie Reading is reading, whether it‘s short stories, graphic novels, audiobooks or doorstopper books. It‘s all escapism I think. 2w
Nerdfins Nope, not cheating! Sometimes short books are needed, whether to reach a goal or for a palate cleanser after a big tome. Go for it! 2w
Bookishlie I have experienced this and have started reading some middle grades. Theses books can be so magical and aren‘t really heavy or ponderous. 2w
GypsyKat Definitely not cheating! I‘ve been having a super hard time reading lately as well. We have a new puppy so I‘m up in the middle of the night and constantly watching her to make sure she‘s not getting into stuff, I‘m just getting over a bad case of bronchitis... I‘ve honestly just been too tired to read. I‘ve mostly just been listening to the HP series on Audible. You gotta do what works best for you. 2w
Vikz Nope, it's not cheating. Read what gives you pleasure. Remember. If a runner has a break from running. They don't go straight back to running marathons. They start with smaller runs. Maybe short books could do the same for readers. 2w
Peddler410 No way! You read for enjoyment and whatever books those are count. Now in my case, it might be considered cheating if I counted all the books I read in a day with classes so I don‘t count those. 2w
dragondrool It counts. It's not quantity. It's quality. 1w
