I didn't really know what to expect with this book, but I kept hearing good things about it. It has a slasher film feel to it, which isn't really my thing, but I did enjoy it for the most part. It's a nice little short book if that's what you're into. It's not super gorey, but there is some. I found it interesting, and I do hope there will be a sequel if there isn't already.

I can't recommend this book enough. The documentary is streaming on Hulu I think. They both pretty much say the same thing word for word.

It goes into detail on the death of "the American dream" and the concentration of wealth and power to the 1%. Chomsky discusses the 10 ways he thinks they maintain and gain more power by manipulating the masses into allowing their own suppression. It will make you angry, but I found the information important.

Astronauts reading kids stories from the ISS.

From their about us: Story Time from Space is a project of the Global Space Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education foundation.

We send children‘s books to the International Space Station.

While in space, astronauts are videotaping themselves reading these books to the children of Earth.

I don't have kids, but I think it's nice.

First day of fall! (Where I live). This is going to be my first fall in a new location. I loved fall in the area I grew up, but now I live in a completely new climate. Interested to see the difference.

What sorts of books are you guys hoping to read this fall? I have a hand full of vampire and zombie books I'd like to get read as well as Halloween Party by Agatha Christie.

Laura317 I‘ve got a zombie book and a Lovecraft book to read for spooky fun. Probably after those two, I‘ll go with mysteries. 1mo

It's an ARC, but I didn't get it until a few days after the book was out 😆 I got from a grab bag thing at a bookstore. It's not the kind of book I usually read, but I was seeing such good reviews of it on here I was curious about it.
I'm very glad I read it. I think it's a very important book. It's like a coming of age story for adults and it covers so many topics such as race, feminism, and the stigma of mental illness. It was a fanastic read.

Ruthiella This is on my list for too! Also not my usual fare but I‘ve heard such great things!😀 1mo

Understanding Copyright Law | Marshall A. Leaffer
post image

Seven of the biggest names in publishing filed a lawsuit against Audible on Friday, arguing that its recently announced AI-generated captions feature breaks copyright law.

https://gizmodo.com/is-captioning-an-audiobook-illegal-major-publishers-sa-18375...

Uh oh.
Personally I find the whole thing kind of pointless.

Curiouser_and_curiouser Oh dear.... 2mo
TheSpineView Sounds like a case of an eye for an eye (so to speak). Gandhi once said all "an eye for an eye does is make everyone blind." 2mo
LiterarySloth That would be like going after the text to voice feature on kindle. My dad has a hard time reading after his stroke a few years ago. Following along with ebooks while the kindle reads it out loud helps him. Captioning audiobooks is basically the same thing. 2mo
Patchshank The whole thing is just publishers getting greedy, but I don't see how they would be losing any money from it. I mean people will still be buying the audiobook. Do people often buy the audiobook and the physical book? They could lose sales if that happens a lot, but I don't see too many people being able to afford buying 2 of the same book all the time. 2mo
shanaqui @Patchshank I don't think it's a matter of losing money, per se. It's about the rights -- it's a primarily legal issue. As I understand it, if you don't take action on that kind of infringement you can lose rights; whether this Audible stuff is a big problem or not will depend on whether it is interpreted as a rights infringement or not... which it could be. 2mo

Patchshank @Beatlefan129 @KathyWheeler that sucks ☹️ I was expecting my location to be out of them. I was super surprised they weren't. I was also expecting the store to be a lot more crowded than it was, so maybe that's why. Maybe more readers in your locations than mine. 2mo

Took awhile and I had to renew the loan a few times, but I finally finished it.

It wasn't too different from the podcast. It had a few small changes here and there. I was hoping it would add more to the lore than it did. The audiobook is read by the same person who does the podcast, which made me happy.
Overall, it's just as good as the podcast. I enjoyed it.

Clare-Dragonfly Thanks for the review. I was hesitant on this book after not liking the Night Vale books. I thought this would be more different from the podcast. 2mo
