Dancing with Myself | Billy Idol
post image
Pickpick

Fun Fact: I share my birthday with Billy Idol. Ever since I saw his birthday listed in a tabloid in the early '80s, I felt a strong affinity for the rebellious rocker. It must be that wild Sagittarius spirit and I am so glad to finally have gotten around to the book. I splurged on the audiobook honestly because his low, gravelly voice just sounds good.
Earlier in May I listened to Lenny Kravitz tell his story (well, the first 25 years of it) ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and if he was the good guy, Billy was the bad boy. This is a memoir of excess: sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. However, it is also the story of a self-proclaimed voracious reader who was interested in being in the forefront of musical revolutions. From Punk to MTV Pop Rock to EDM before it was big, Billy shares stories of his youth in England, his early days in New York City, the motorcycle wreck that turned his life around (somewhat). Honestly ⬇️ 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Bad boys are gonna bad boy! Then we go up through his more contemporary life in LA, dabbling in Hollywood and enjoying his children.
A few highlight stories/anecdotes:
🎸Billy's first foray to the NYC grocer to pick up milk
🎸The significance of Mony Mony in his life
🎸The Rebel Yell inspiration
🎸Going to court for sexual deviancy
Some of the accounts shared here are what you would expect from a world-famous musician but ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Billy is also reflective and speaks fondly of many people who have come in & out of his life. Whether you're a huge fan or just dance along when Cradle of Love is played on the radio, there's something here to appreciate.

5feet.of.fury That sounds like a lot of fun! I love Billy Idol! 3y
TiminCalifornia Billy Idol was my first rock concert. Saw him at Red Rocks! 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TiminCalifornia I'm jealous! I've seen lots of acts live but never Billy. Not yet, anyway. 🤞😁 3y
OriginalCyn620 I love Billy and loved reading more about his life! It‘s cool you share a birthday with him. I share mine with Nicole Kidman and John Taylor from Duran Duran! Another fun fact. Not that anyone cares, but I love FFs. 😂 (edited) 3y
SamAnne My stepson bought us tickets for a concert this summer! 3y

🌸April #BookSpinBingo recap🌸

14.27 books read in April with 2 bingos! I still need to review some books but that may not happen this weekend.
@TheAromaofBooks

@velvetfur I dropped the ball on my How-To book for #education21 this month but when I have time to really learn and practice, I'll get around to it.

Tera66 Atta girl! Great month! 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Trashcanman 🤗 Hi George! How are you today? 3y
Trashcanman @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Hi Kelly! Im doing ok, had a rough start today but a better afternoon. Im just taking it day by day. How are you? 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Trashcanman Day by day is all we can do. Happy to hear your day improved. I had a lazy day except for about 2 hours helping my SIL with her daughter's 1st birthday photos. Mundane but better than a crappy day. 3y
Trashcanman @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick that's true, I hope you have a good day tomorrow and 🤗 hugs. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Trashcanman Same to you friend 🤗🧡 3y
Megabooks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3y

I am amazed at the details Rubenhold uncovered about the five canonical victims of Jack the Ripper. Thanks to articles from the time (with the facts taken with a grain of salt & shot of tequila) plus census records, work & home documents, and an educated hypothesis drawing from the commonalities of time period, we learn that Annie Chapman, Polly Nichols, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly were mothers and daughters who each⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick suffered many losses and ultimately made decisions that brought them to Whitechapel at the same time as Jack. Branded by the press as prostitutes, this book looks to save their reputations and give them some dignity. The narration was well done and helped to further immerse me in the rough lives of Victorian women.

Daisey Great review! 3y
Ericalambbrown This book was so well done. I felt like the author did a beautiful job of telling their stories without pulpy sensationalization. I really appreciated this one. 3y

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!!! 3y
Velvetfur Great review! Sounds like a really interesting book and perfect for my March prompt 😁👍🏻 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Velvetfur I think you'd enjoy it. I was having trouble finding something of interest that wasn't a comprehensive chunkster then I remembered this was already on my TBR and nonfiction. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Ericalambbrown Yes! I was surprised how much of their early lives she was able to put together. I think 4 of them were born about 175/180 years ago. 3y
S3V3N Great review! I love your Litsy Handle. 3y

Thanks for the tag @hannah-leeloo

I don't have outdoor space at home, so indoors it is near a window.

Am I? Don't ask me how I do it! #sundaybuddyread #booked2021 #pop21 #thatsclassic #foodandlit #bookspinbingo #authoramonth #FairyTaleReadingChallenge and maybe #education21 & #YApril

Care to play? @AlysonCE @Apostcardlife @peanutnine

MoonWitch94 Thanks for playing 😊💗💐📚 3y
Apostcardlife Haha that first question "in the spring" feels leading! ? I do mostly read indoors and, hadn't thought about it, but mostly at night, but I did just recently put a little table out on my patio & have been wanting to make it a special little "Me" place out there so, who knows! Second, no photo or book challenges for this month... so far! But plenty of reading, nonetheless. ? 3y
Apostcardlife Also thanks for the tag! 💗 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Apostcardlife I think you're now obligated to occasionally read on the patio to make up for those of us living the suburban downtown apartment life who don't have patios. 🤣 Thanks for playing along! 3y
