I haven‘t been posting much lately but I‘m still around, and still reading! Currently binge-reading “The Cat Who” series!
Went to book launch of a writer I know tonight at #McNallyRobinson. Can‘t wait to read her debut novel! #tbr
Enjoying my reread of the tagged book on this chilly evening in preparation for finally reading The Golden Enclaves!
Life‘s been busy and I haven‘t posted on Litsy for quite a while so this introduction is long overdue: meet Minerva‘s sister, Ulyssa! #CatsofLitsy #CatwithBooks
Hello, Littens! It‘s been a while! Thought I‘d share a photo of my #usedbooks #bookhaul from the SSO Book Sale. I haven‘t bought books in a long, long time so it felt so good to go book hunting! All of these are #tbr but with #Nanowrimo approaching, I‘m looking forward to reading the tagged book ASAP.
I haven‘t been around Litsy much, or doing much reading either, but I check in every now & then. Here‘s a #catwithbooks pic of Minerva. She loves this shelf & keeps me company while I work. #CatsofLitsy
My new office bookshelf was supposed to have some nifty stuff on it but Minerva had other ideas! I guess it‘s her spot now! So I‘m just going with it. I even gave her a kitty-sized blanket I made. #CatsofLitsy #CatwithBooks
Enjoying a lovely evening reading outside while Minerva surveys the yard
I can‘t believe it‘s been 6 years! Thank you #Littens for making #Litsy such a wonderful place! ❤️#Litsyversary
Here‘s my #BFC2022 March accomplishments & April goals. I exceeded my reading goal, except that I only read library books, nothing from my own shelves! I‘ll do better in April. I‘m tweaking my fitness goal because although I walked twice a week, I didn‘t bike at all. New goal: walk 2x/wk & exercise 2x/wk. April is a #CampNanowrimo month so I‘m aiming at editing 20k words.
#WeeklyForecast March 13-19, 2022
Just started The Artist‘s Way today. I‘m about 2/3 done The Cat Who Saw Red so I‘m on track to finish it in the next few days. I have the next book borrowed from the library & ready to go! I think both The Secret Garden & Rilla of Ingleside will end up on my DNF list... I just can‘t seem to get into them right now. I‘ll probably find a new audio choice & for my print pick I‘ll dive into Discworld again.
I‘ve been meaning to get back to doing a weekly #bookreport but just haven‘t gotten around to it. I‘m jumping back in with a combo of the past 4 weeks! I finished Naomi Novik‘s Temeraire series ❤️ listened to a Kelley Armstrong novella with an annoying audiobook narrator whose voice just didn‘t work for me 🙄 I probably would‘ve liked it better in print or as an ebook. Also finished another enjoyable “The Cat Who” book & started the next
I met my #BFC2022 reading goal for February (with the exception that I didn‘t read any books from my own shelves). I still only walked twice a week but I‘m OK with that. Unfortunately, I didn‘t do any biking and very little revision on my #Nanowrimo novel. I‘m going to try again in March with a more modest word count goal for the revision and do my best to actually read some of my own books instead of just library books and get biking!
Late post for my #BFC2022 January stats and February goals. I exceeded my Jan reading goal, except I only read library books, nothing from my shelves. I was only able to walk twice a week but I did get on the stationary bike a few times. In February, I‘m trying to do more biking to get some exercise on days when I don‘t walk. I haven‘t been successful so far, but I‘ll keep trying to get exercise 4 days/week! Overall, I‘m happy with Jan‘s progress.
Enjoying a bit of #audiocrocheting before bed
Was off work early today so got to spend a good chunk of time #audiocrocheting, which was perfect since I was worried I wouldn‘t get to finish my library book before it was due to return! I finished with plenty of time to spare so avoided what would‘ve been a maddening 20 week wait to read the last quarter of the book. I was a bit put off at the beginning of the first book but I gave it a chance & once I got into it, I really enjoyed this series!
1. Reading goals for the year are to read 60 books (preferably unread books I already own)
2. Contentment
3. I‘m enjoying the tagged book on audio!
Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView! #ThoughtfulThursday
The end of the year is coming up fast! I have a lot of catching up to do! #goodreadschallenge
1. Currently reading Dark Matter & Rilla of Ingleside
2. Pumpkin pie!
3. I don‘t recall if it the tagged book really had an autumn feel but remember a quote from it: “It was autumn, the springtime of death.”
Thanks for the tag @DarkMina! #WeekendReads
Late post for #Two4Tuesday:
1. Haven‘t completed any reading goals yet. I‘ve read 42/60 books for my #GoodreadsChallenge, which means I‘m behind schedule. I haven‘t been very good at keeping track of #LitsyAtoZ so I have no idea how I‘m doing with that!
2. I don‘t have any books I specifically want to read by the end of the year. I usually don‘t plan that far ahead!
Hello #WritersofLitsy! Who‘s participating in #Nanowrimo? If you haven‘t already, drop by the Litsy Campers writing group on the Nano site to say hello & tell us about your project! For any other #WrimosofLitsy out there who are interested there are still a few spots available. Comment here if you‘d like an invite! #Nanowrimo2021
“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates' #loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.” ― Walt Disney #QuotsyOct21
“This was the time, when night wasn‘t quite over but day hadn‘t quite begun, when thoughts stood out bright and clear and without #disguise.” #QuotsyOct21
I have come to bury Love
Beneath a tree,
In the forest tall and black
Where none can see.
I shall put no flowers at his head,
Nor stone at his feet,
For the mouth I loved so much
Was bittersweet.
I shall go no more to his #grave,
For the woods are cold.
I shall gather as much of joy
As my hands can hold.
I shall stay all day in the sun
Where the wide winds blow,—
But oh, I shall cry at night
When none will know.

I‘ve loved hosting #Quotsy but the time has come for me to take a break. Thank you, Littens, for all the wonderful words! Special thanks to @GatheringBooks who‘s been posting daily almost from the beginning. Many thanks to @TheSpineview, @Klou, @DebinHawaii, @Blueberry and so many others who have shared quotes over the past 4 years, whether it was just one or one thousand! I love you all! ❤️ #QuotsyHost
“When other girls had tea parties on the playground, I brought out my secondhand Ouija board and attempted to raise the dead. While my classmates gave book reports on The Wind In The Willows or Charlotte‘s Web, I did mine on tattered, paperback copies of Stephen King novels that I‘d borrowed from my grandmother. Instead of Sweet Valley High, I read books about zombies and vampires.” #zombie #QuotsyOct21
“It was lonely on the hill, and cold. And all you could do was keep going. You could scream, cry, and stamp your feet, but apart from making you feel warmer, it wouldn‘t do any good. You could say it was unfair, and that was true, but the universe didn‘t care because it didn‘t know what “fair” meant. That was the big problem about being a #witch. It was up to you. It was always up to you.” #screech #QuotsyOct21
“Dooryard Roses
I HAVE come the selfsame path
To the selfsame door,
Years have left the roses there
Burning as before.
While I watch them in the wind
Quick the hot tears start—
Strange so frail a #flame outlasts
Fire in the heart.”

“Everything was silent except the leaves of the trees, which were gently agitated by the wind; the night was nearly dark, and the scene would have been solemn and affecting even to an uninterested observer. The spirits of the departed seemed to flit around and to cast a shadow, which was felt but not seen, around the head of the mourner.” #depart #QuotsyOct21
“The moles nested in my cellar, nibbling every third potato, and making a snug bed even there of some hair left after plastering and of brown paper; for even the wildest animals love comfort and warmth as well as man, and they survive the winter only because they are so careful to secure them.” #mole #QuotsyOct21
“I‘d discovered, after a lot of extreme apprehension about what spoons to use, that if you do something incorrect at table with a certain arrogance, as if you knew perfectly well you were doing it properly, you can get away with it and nobody will think you are bad-mannered or poorly brought up. They will think you are original and very witty.” #apprehensive #QuotsyOct21
“Places I love come back to me like music—
Mid-ocean, midnight, the waves buzz drowsily;
In the ship's deep churning the #eerie phosphorescence
Is like the souls of people who were drowned at sea,
And I can hear a man's voice, speaking, hushed, insistent,
At midnight, in mid-ocean, hour on hour to me.” #QuotsyOct21
“Ask no guarantees, ask for no security, there never was such an animal. And if there were, it would be related to the great #sloth which hangs upside down in a tree all day every day, sleeping its life away. To hell with that. Shake the tree and knock the great sloth down on his ass.” #QuotsyOct21
“I succumbed to the lure of the oracle, he thought.
And he sensed that succumbing to this lure might be to fix himself upon a single-track life. Could it be, he wondered, that the oracle didn't tell the future? Could it be that the oracle made the future?” #divination #QuotsyOct21
“The original Gothic horror tales focused on personalities deformed through loneliness. Ghouls, vampires, werewolves: all made, not born. But the isolation? Are even such as these ever truly alone? Perhaps the psyche has always been more complex than that, desire eternally more potent than terror. Surely, none prowl entirely in solitude.” #vampire #QuotsyOct21
“...he did his best to make their short lives miserable, because that was his job, but nothing he could think up was half as bad as the stuff they thought up themselves. They seemed to have a talent for it....Over the years Crowley had found it increasingly difficult to find anything #demonic to do which showed up against the natural background of generalized nastiness.” #QuotsyOct21
“Years have passed, I suppose. I'm not really counting them anymore. But I think of this thing often: Perhaps there is a Golden Age someplace, a Renaissance for me sometime, a special time somewhere, somewhere but a ticket, a visa, a diary-page away. I don't know where or when. Who does? Where are all the rains of yesterday?
In the invisible city?
Inside me?
It is cold and quiet outside and the horizon is infinity. There is no sense of movement...
Yesterday I helped a friend sort through her late partner‘s books to decide which ones to keep & which ones will go to the used bookstore for trade. We shared some tears & smiles thinking about him & how he was always reading. It was really tough for her to let go of some of his books but we think he‘d be happy she‘s trading them for books she‘ll enjoy. I got the ones in the photo & I feel honoured to now have some of his books gracing my shelves.
“It did no good to tell himself that it was all in his head if it went on happening anyway. His belief was not required; his #disbelief of was no consequence.” #QuotsyOct21
“And louder than all of that were the whispers that became stronger every day from thousands and thousands of people creeping to the edge and quietly admitting, “Me too. I thought it was just me.” And the whispers became a roar. And the roar became an anthem that carried me through some of my darkest moments. I did not ride that wave alone.” #whisper #QuotsyOct21
“She knew how the memory plays tricks, and the old stories had power, and everyone forgot how 'terrific' really meant 'brings #terror'. Her people would only remember that the elves sang beautifully. They would have forgotten what their song was about.” #QuotsyOct21
