‘Had about as much to do with the issue as the great love-song of Mozart‘ 😂
Ok, I suppose this ends well, with diatribes against concentrated capital and a biased press, but this was definitely a fascinating wild ride!
We can substitute ‘dr suess‘ for Mozart today...

The first chapter didn‘t hold my interest, but then the author goes into her childhood experience of being Ida B Wells‘ great grand-daughter (!! Talk about burying the lede!), and her early life is totally spellbinding. She‘s 25yo currently... 🤩

3.75? It was very delightful in both its luscious prose parts and its cutting humorous observations but it ties up too neatly and not deeply enough for me to feel it to be really Excellent. What do y‘all think?

Ruthiella I really liked it. I see it as a fairy tale for grownups. It‘s also a good book to read when it‘s cold so the reader can enjoy the sun of Italy in the spring. 😀 3y
MargaretPinardAuthor @Ruthiella it would appear that I am fairy tale-resistant in the present moment then 😭 ah well, I‘m sure the ease will return! 🥳🥰 3y

This was a Great book, I just didn‘t feel that wowed by it. The writing style is dreamy and evocative yet piercing between actions, and it gave me a lot to think about but I don‘t find it staying...buddy read discussion on YouTube much more interesting!

Suggestions?

After a significant amount of DNF time, I picked this book up again as 1st pick for my Patreon Book Club: BOOM! Accountability.
There were glimpses of intention, reform, passion but the packaging (voice, format, word choice, range of content) made it pretty inaccessible/off-putting.
I‘ve never hate-read before, but I feel like this was necessary for part of this book.
Necessary for learning, perhaps.

So I got this book during the summer, and it‘s my first Audre Lorde. She‘s pretty striking, going by the moniker: Black Lesbian Feminist Warrior Poet.
She‘s talking deeply, philosophically, about the pains of intersectionality, but also positive ways to relate across specific differences, in a way that is understandable and touching.
