Running around looking for pieces to create a costume for my 10 yr old for book week & I just can't walk past the bookshelves..
Today's book haul & I'm mighty happy @$1ea, especially with Tandia as I'm currently reading The Power of One!
My daughter squealed when she saw Eragon
I'm also very excited about Kim by R.Kipling, an author I've wondered about for 40yrs, ever since I recieved a book from my Grandpa with 2 of his stories in it when I was 7

Ok, I had my mouth all ready for Atwood's Cats Eye and The Blind Assassin but inbetween my renewal limit to The Blind Assassin on audiobook & borrowing the hard copy I began re-reading The Power of One (both audio & book) & I just cant put it down!!!
Such an awesome book, bringing me to tears or laughter whether I'm driving around, washing the dishes or in the car waiting for the kids to finish school
So adventurous & moving but easy & fun to read

Kimberlone I have had this book for years and still haven‘t read it but the movie is so good and I highly recommend if you haven‘t seen it! 1w
Blaire One of my all-time favorites! 1w
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Kimberlone I'm pretty sure I have seen the movie but it was after I'd read the book the first time, and from memory I was disappointed. But I will look forward to seeing the movie again when I finish the novel as I am older and wiser than I was 25 years ago!! Lol. I'll check for it on Netflix & watch it with hubby as even though I've been going on about how great the book is, he isn't a reader. I hope you read it soon!! Let me know how you go 😊 1w
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Blaire I think its definitely up there in my favorite category too!! I'm looking forward to his other novels now. I've got two waiting for me on my shelves, recent op shop finds.... 😉 1w

I listened to this on audio today for about 4 hours whilst I gave my bedroom a deep clean. I've been listening to it in short spurts for last 2 months & today I reached my renewal limit. I can see how just a few more chapters has changed my opinion of the book. Realizing I am not able to renew the audiobook tomorrow I just reserved a hard copy at my library. Can't wait to pick it up, I think I will enjoy reading it even more than listening to it

LiteraryinLititz Great job cleaning! 2w
Curiouser_and_curiouser Thank you @LiteraryinLititz , it was very therapeutic. My mums house was finally sold and settled last Friday so after 2 years of stress in the move and sale of the house, which I had to manage, I am finally feeling myself again. Today I gave myself time and energy, which I haven't done in a very long time. I am enjoying being in bed reading tonight seeing everything so fresh and tidy. Thanks for your support xx 2w
slategreyskies I like your room! It has a lot of character. The green chest of drawers is especially nice. Yay for allowing yourself some time to take care of you too. I know I tend to sometimes put myself last, even though I know my needs are important too. ☀️🌼✨ 2w

Curiouser_and_curiouser @slategreyskies thank you, I do love the color of that piece of furniture too. Yes, i have put myself on the back burner for waaaaaayyy too long, I'm long overdue for some R&R. I'm really enjoying finding myself again. Thank you for your support xx 2w
CafeMom I loved this book and author 2w
Curiouser_and_curiouser @CafeMom yes me too! I've just discovered Atwood only a few months ago and I'm loving exploring through her novels. This book is drawing me in the further I read so after listening to half of it on audiobook I'm going to start it again reading the physical book as I feel like I missed some details on audio. Loving the journey :) 2w

After seeing this book pop up in posts five the last few months I spotted it on a display shelf at my local library last week.
I've read the first 2 chapters so far.The authors style of writing is different to anything I can ever remember reading & it intrigues me. I really like the attitude of the protagonist so far. It is totally different than what I expected after reading a few reviews, I expected it to be a lot slower that what it is.

OP shopping. I think sometimes the collecting is more exciting than the reading, the thrill of discovery and anticipation......

I've read 3 of Paulo Coelho's books, The Alchemist, The Spy & Hippie.
I came across The Valkyries today so I'm wondering if these 4 will give me a good all round feel of Coelho or do I need to read a couple more of his books?

If so, which do you recommend??

jb72 I‘ve only read one of his books, and it was interesting. 3w
Curiouser_and_curiouser @jb72 thank you. I've read through the reviews of Veronika Decides to Die, many of which are polar opposite. Ill put it on my TBR list 😊 3w
jb72 @Curiouser_and_curiouser yeah it‘s one of those books you either like or you hate. I‘m in the like category. It‘s different which is what appeals to me. 3w

I was born in 1972 so I missed being a teen/adult in this awesome era but I feel very strangely connected to it. I think I have always have been a Hippie at heart....
I love the feeling this memoir gives, its like I'm right there seeing and feeling all the sights and sounds of the 70's, traveling around with Paulo in his early 20's.
Very cool so far!!

slategreyskies I‘ve never heard of this book. It looks interesting! :) 2w

Oh gosh, I've been through the adult section in the op shop, twice, then earlier this week I discovered the biography section....
I've gone back in today to just grab one book I saw earlier for a friend and now I've been stuck for hours in the teen/young adult section.
Only 2 small piles later......you know, for the kids...

Around the World in 80 Days is the lovely old cream colored book with the green tree on the spine.

Got these 4 going on audiobook atm.

I began The Power of One many years ago but I only got half way through. So I'm starting again and really enjoying it!!

Audiobooks are so good for on the run mummies 😍😍😍

wen4blu Every year I consider rereading The Power of One, but it hasn‘t happened yet. 1mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @wen4blu Yeah, it's a thick book, but I must say even though I only read half of it many years ago, I can say it was profound and I did really enjoy what I read of it, I think it was life circumstances which caused me to not finish it at the time. I would suggest to just read the first few pages and that might be enough to draw you into this awesome book 😉 I hope you someday choose it. Good luck!! 1mo

I'm 3.5 hours into this audiobook but it's just not grabbing me.
Have you read this and what do you think?
Should I keep going?

violabrain I LOVED this book! It does take a bit to get into, but it‘s absolutely brilliant the way it‘s constructed and definitely worth it to keep reading. :) 1mo
Lcsmcat Yes, you should keep going! It‘s brilliant. You might want a print version if the audiobook isn‘t working for you. 1mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @violabrain ok, thanks so much for the encouragement! I am perhaps missing some details here and there as I usually listen whilst I'm driving, and I'm feel confused sometimes, so I might take it back to the start and start again so I'm more grounded in what's going on. Thank you 😊 1mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Lcsmcat oh yeah, that's a great idea, I do feel a little disconnected from the story as I usually listen to it whilst I'm driving, so yeah, a physical novel might help where I can flip pages back and forth to reread some parts when I feel a little lost. Thank you for your encouragement 🤗 1mo

Oh dear, I've discovered the autobiography section in the OP shop!!

I was pretty excited to find both of Russell Brand's books here. I found his 2nd book & chose it, wishing for the first, then found the first on the bottom shelf. Score!

Then I get a phone call & absent mindedly add a few others to the stack. Now for the haul home 😉

Forest of the Pygmies | Isabel Allende

Found these 3 books on the shelf at the Little Free Library at my children's Circus class tonight. I've read the first few pages of each but cant decide which one to take home.
Which one should I read first??

Post note, I took home all 3, I'm beginning tonight with Forest of the Pygmies.
So does anyone know or think of the author, Isabel Allende?

Lcsmcat Allende is a prolific writer, who writes in many styles. My favorites are Daughter of Fortune and House of the Spirits. 1mo
Eggbeater I loved Son of the Circus, but John Irving is one of my favorite writers because his characters do the strangest things and yet are so relatable. 1mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Lcsmcat thank you, I wasn't sure what her reputation was like. There is an "About the Author" in the back of the book which I haven't had a chance to look at yet. I am finding this book very easy to read but so far I feel it lacks a little maturity. As I'm struggling with seeing a book through to the end at the moment, I'm hoping the ease of this book will help me hang on long enough to complete it. 1mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Eggbeater That's cool, thanks so much for your input! I've got about 4 of John Irving's books on my shelf already but I haven't had the chance to read any of them yet. Your comment has intrigued me to read further, thank you! 1mo

On the go as usual so another audiobook has begun. I'm fascinated by English history and the lives of Kings & Queens.
I have watched many movies of this genre & as I never studied history I can easily get confused by which order Queens or Kings came into rule & each one's story.
Very easy to listen to so far & I love that the author explains how she spent time researching royalty, Queens especially. I'm excited to learn more about them!

I'm only a few chapters in but I'm riveted by this story. I must be way behind the times cos apparently there's a movie of the same name but I must be the only one on earth who's not heard of it, or if I have seen it already I've completely forgotten.
This incredible recount is a true story which gives the reader an all too honest insight into life for people of color in the 1840's.

Snuggled up in bed reading with the sweetest kitty in the world, my Ladybug.
Ladybug was recently hit by a car in our court and had to have surgery to remove the femoral head of her leg bone (femur) after it was dislocated from the accident. She is recovering very well. Being only 2 years old and having had major surgery 18 months previous to this on her ear drum, I think this kitty is showing us exactly what rising strong looks like.

I've picked up another book from my shelf before finishing (or attempting to) the other 8 or 9 books I have started recently.
I wanted to highlight Huxley's thoughts on the modern world nearly 100 years ago.....
He is talking of cars and travel in the second chapter and of the envy of the more powerful cars which zoom past his 10 horse powered car.
Then he ends with this paragraph, correlating the invention of cars and the health of humans.....

I thought I'd share a shelfie tonight, pls excuse my bed post & shoe shelf.
2 shelves, top left are hubby's (notice P.K.D titles)
5 of 8 of the shelves are double stacked, so I really need to stop borrowing & bargain hunting for more til I'm done with at least the titles which excite me the most. And these are not our only shelves, 3 more in lounge
What a sweet sight from my bed, to wake up and go to sleep with a view as this...

Norlad I‘d zoom in and snoop, esp. being a PKD fan, but the app doesn‘t seem to allow for it 😕. It is a nice view, though! I‘m in the middle of reorganizing our little library and I‘ll have to post a shelfie when I‘m done. (edited) 2mo

Sometimes I have a short attention span, tonight is one of them..... Often when I finish a good book (most recent for me was The Handmaid's Tale), I struggle to commit to another storyline, feeling like I am somehow betraying my recent world and characters by moving too quickly to the next story.... hence these short stories....

Lcsmcat I love Atwood, but I have to say this is maybe my least favorite of hers. If you loved Handmaid, try the MaddAddam trilogy: Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam. Alias Grace is excellent too, as are Cat‘s Eye, Hag-Seed, The Robber Bride, etc. 😀 2mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Lcsmcat gee, thanks for all of those recommendations of hers!! Looking forward to discovering more of her works. I watched Alias Grace a few months ago. My retail therapy today, certainly cheered me up although with a large collection of TBR books at home I think I've added another year to it....
My local op shop drop off this morning allowed me this indulgence, $1 each, bargain!

Lynnsoprano A lot of good choices! 3mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Lynnsoprano thank you, cant wait. I already have so many, which have been patiently waiting for 17 years (my eldest child's age) for me to get to them, why not add another 11 books to my shelf? That being said, I have already read Memoirs of a Geisha about 20 years ago, but lost my copy, lucky to find another for $1 at the second hand shop! I think this means I'll have to read it again 😃 3mo
Severnmeadows It‘s a wonderful story! 😊 2mo

A third of the way into this book and I'm very much enjoying it so far, intriguing, looking forward to more.....
It reminds me of 1984 so far.

rretzler Both books are favorites of mine! 3mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @rretzler cool, thanks, I did like 1984 and so far I'm enjoying The Handmaids Tale, so I would class them both in my faves list too :) 3mo

Superb recount of Anh Do's life. Perfectly written and read by Anh. Very funny with some teary moments.
What an amazing story and an insight to the life of a Refugee. This is a must read, with this we can truly appreciate our Australian lifestyle and the lengths gone to to live in a country like Australia.

I can't believe I waited so long to read this book.
After first hearing of it as a teenager in American teen mags, I finally read this novel at the age of 46! It was brilliant & I thoroughly loved it! I can see why so many young Americans enjoyed it, even as a mature adult I found it funny and so very honest. Holden is very relatable to us all

Clutterbucks_Queen When was this copy published? I collect different covers and havent seen this one before! Looks pretty cool! 😍 3mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser Hi! This particular novel was published in 1958. Thanks :) 3mo

rretzler If it makes you feel any better, I‘m closing in on 56 and STILL haven‘t read it! 🤣 3mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @rretzler Well I think one can relate to it at any age and get a few laughs out if it too, it's only a short book, I think its definitely worth it :) 3mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Clutterbucks_Queen sure, as mentioned above, this copy was published in 1958 3mo
SW-T Most welcome 😊 3mo

I loved the thought process of each character throughout the entire book. I also loved the language used especially. The storyline was utterly fascinating. Once I completed the book, I watched the BBC 3 Part Series, then listened to the audiobook again. Fantastic story and storytelling!!

I absolutely loved this book and ate it up, so to speak.
I borrowed it from the library and read it all in 3 weeks, then had to return it, so I bought my own copy.
Life changing if you're open to it. I am already feeling much more energetic by following his diet recommendations for the past 2 weeks. I am lighter and my chronic fatigue has lifted :)

My sister and I own the whole series of books so I've started. So far I've read 158 pages (7.5 chapters). As I've already watched the first 2 seasons of the TV series, before we even thought of buying the books. I know what's ahead in this first volume. I'm enjoying reliving her journey

It was a little challenging pushing myself through the first 90 pages but after that I felt that the characters and storyline were established enough where I was excited to keep reading. The pace was a slow trot as the two main characters personalities revealed and the storyline bubbled along piecing their lives together.
I really loved reading this book, the concept is fantastic and I loved the romance element to it very much.

Im about 4 chapters into the 3rd book now, I've had to return and borrow it from the library twice after I reached the maximum online renewals. I'm enjoying it and like the simplicity of the writing, especially in my busy life. Easy to read although I've listened to most of it through my library's audiobook app. Everything else will be like reading a golden book after I get through this! Looking forward to reading some of his others one day.
