Here's my October list. I've been thinking about how I want to structure my reading next year. I am planning to limit my challenges and read either spines of a certain color each month from my shelves or focus on one shelf per month. I did not read near enough of my owned TBR and I am hoping this will help!

A soft pick - not my favorite Roberts book but still quite readable. The Past section kind of stressed me out just because I knew something bad would have to happen to break them up and I don't like waiting for the bad stuff haha But I actually did like Tate and Matthew together. I appreciate how Roberts can find random jobs/settings for her stories and still make them work. I loved the descriptions of life underwater and the whole concept of ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) treasure diving. I loved Tate's parents and Matthew's uncle and the sense of family and community they had. The story did feel slow in spots but still an enjoyable read.

I've had this one since December 2020 when @HufflepuffGirl90 sent it to me for the #LitsyLoveWinterSwap so at least I am finally reading it!! I was a little slow getting into this one as I am never huge on the "evil psychopath child" trope (and wasn't the creepy kid in Baby Teeth also a Hannah???) but as the other storylines got going, I was totally sucked in. Even though it honestly got a little ridiculous at times, it was pacy enough to keep⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) me from asking too many questions. 😂 A fun read if you just roll with it.

Just look at this gorgeous #OwlCrate edition!! And I didn't get it in my photo but the edges are sprayed green as well!! I really enjoyed this fantasy. Overall the pacing was fairly good although it did bog down in spots. I liked the characters and was rooting for them, although the romance was not completely believable to me. This one is listed as a standalone, yet the final little epilogue definitely has a "in the next book" vibe?? Whilst ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) checking the author's website to see if there was anything about a sequel (nothing I could find) I did stumble across the one thing I felt this book was really lacking - a map! Why can't all books include maps!??! I printed it off and tucked it into this book for next time!

My out-of-town relatives have departed, so while this week was quite busy, it didn't feel as out-of-control as the two weeks before that!! A little more reading was accomplished, but still slow - catching up on things around the house and still SO MANY PEACHES!! 😂 I'm more or less hopelessly behind on reviews, so here is the sum-up:
-Tagged book was my #LMPBC read and I really enjoyed it. Lots of humor and a fascinating glimpse into a different ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) era. Checked off 1930 for #192025 as well, plus Chicory Coffee for #Pantone2022.
-The Worst Best Man was okay, but I never warmed up to the MC, who spent most of her time whining. Plus, the whole “we're just having sex, it doesn't mean anything“ is definitely towards the bottom of my enjoyable romance trope list. Still, not a bad read, just not completely my style. This one was drawn as a #TBRDeckofCards read and also checked off 2020 ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) for #192025.
-The Railway Children was a reread for me and this month's #ChildrensClassicRead - I absolutely loved it, as I do all of Nesbit's writing. I'd forgotten how much more grounded in the “real world“ this one is - no fantasy elements at all. I found myself wanting an entire book about the children's mother. You have to stretch credulity a bit because really, how many people can three small children save in one summer, but still ⬇
1mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) overall delightful.
-Exposure has been on my TBR for a while. For some reason, I thought it was the adult perspective of The Railway Children, & it kind of is, except updated & set in the 1960s instead. I just wasn't feeling it so I bailed.
-Current read is The Small Bachelor by Wodehouse - absolutely delightful as always. ⬇

Here's my #bookspinbingo board for July. I finished 12 books, which is low for me, but we had a lot going on around here. I was DNFing books left and right.
I read the tagged book as a buddy read that started in late June, and really liked it a lot!

A small review binge upcoming...

I'm not sure if it was me, the stories, or the fact that I was starting to get sick when I was read them, but they just didn't hit the spot for me. I don't get on with short stories very well, but I always think I'll read a collection like this to see if a new author tickles my fancy. While there were some interesting concepts here, they were really mostly too insta-love-y for me. I also didn't realize that ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) these were all YA stories until I started reading them, so part of it was that that just wasn't really my mood.

This was a #TBRDeckofCards draw from April that I finally checked off!! I didn't enjoy this one as much as some of West's other books. It's been a while since a YA read made me feel so old! 😂 Autumn gets locked in the library and immediately starts panicking about being BORED. IN A LIBRARY. So I wasn't sure if I was going to like her from the get-go. There were a few things I found confusing (aren't public buildings set up so that you can ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) always exit them??) but I was willing to ride with most of it. On one hand, I felt like some aspects of Autumn's anxiety was handled well (I found her parents/family to be really supportive), but I really feel like we, as a society, need to work on people being able to just say “no thank you“ to attending an event instead of having to explain why they don't want to go. Autumn shouldn't have felt pressured to share her personal issues to ⬇ 3mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) everyone in her friend group just so they would stop trying to make her come to every single social event under the sun. On the other hand, that's high school, and it's part of what made me feel old while I was reading this, because I'm way past the age of worrying about people being mad at me if I don't go to a basketball game 😂

All in all, not a bad read, but one I felt pretty meh about, especially compared to some of West's other ⬇

Tineke Ha, I was once locked up in a library as an older child. Did not realize the lights were off. But I also think I intentionally kept quiet. Anyway, proceeded to try to phone out, did not work. Then I raided the pantry and ate marshmallows. Didn't panick at all. The housekeeper saved me. Library staff was very apologetic, but I kinda liked being there after closing time. 3mo
TheAromaofBooks @Tineke - That's amazing!! When I was growing up our library was kind of castle-like and so magical and I always wanted to get locked in there, although I can also imagine it being rather scary in the dark!!! 3mo
