Some people stay all summer long on the idyllic island of Belle Isle, North Carolina. Others come only for the weekends-and the mix between the regulars and the weekenders can sometimes make the sparks fly. Riley Griggs has a season of good times with friends and family ahead of her on Belle Isle when things take an unexpected turn. While waiting for her husband to arrive on the ferry one Friday afternoon, Riley is confronted by a process server who thrusts papers into her hand. And her husband is nowhere to be found. So she turns to her island friends for help and support, but it turns out that each of them has their own secrets, and the clock is ticking as the mystery deepens...in a murderous way. Cocktail parties aside, Riley must find a way to investigate the secrets of Belle Island, the husband she might not really know, and the summer that could change everything.Told with Mary Kay Andrews trademark blend of humor and warmth, and with characters and a setting that you can t help but fall for, "The Weekenders "is the perfect summer escape."

I thought the weekend would never come. It's been so long since I accepted a schedule that has me coming to school for 5 days; usually I just have 3 or a max of 4 days. I need a break from going up 3 floors everyday; need a break from lectures which left me slightly voiceless last night. 11 years of doing this and I still haven't learned how to take care of my voice. 🙄 Anyway, have a happy weekend! So happy to have picked a new book to read. 😁

AprilMae @revenge4porgy I can honestly say that I haven't found a modern book about celebrating the passover. My favorite holiday cartoon that touches on that was the Rugrats one. 1- Homer Price
2-I can‘t think of a specific one right now.
3- I will read anyplace , as long as I have eyes and a book. I prefer my own house because there are no distractions here. I‘m alone 12 hours a day. If I‘m out in public, either I start yakking or I get distracted by people watching or noise. People are fascinating.
4- I have a hard time putting me and ACTIVITY in the same sentence. I‘m active at the gym though

Bookladylinda I love people watching too! 😬 1y

Kaye Good to see another Homer Price fan . I still think of the donut machine and worlds largest ball of string. That must‘ve been 50 years or more that I first read it and it‘s always been my favorite. @MuddyPuddle 1y
HippieChickHomeschool I love Homer Price too! I was completely unfamiliar until I read it with my children last year. It was a huge hit! Even my teen would wander in to listen. 1y
Kaye @HippieChickHomeschool Yea, I‘m not sure how old it is. It was around when I was a kid and looked well worn at our library. Back in those days our library was so small, we had a limit of 4 books in 4 weeks. I believe I had Homer Price and Centerburg Tales at my house more than the library did. 😁 1y
MuddyPuddle @HippieChickHomeschool @Kaye Oh my goodness, as soon as I was reminded above about the giant ball of string, the name Miss Terwilinger popped into my head! I remember my fourth grade teacher reading this aloud to the class and I always thought it was Mr. Willinger! And that was 1000 years ago! (edited) 1y
Kaye Wow 😮 @MuddyPuddle Your memory is much better than mine. I couldn‘t remember any of the other character‘s names in the book. 😁 1y

aechh For me the biggest one is 'a song of ice and fire' series. It's almost five times bulkier than harry potter.I got frustrated by the names(longer thant the world itself) of kings and queens and wardens of the seven kingdom. But anyway it was best of the fantasy.(WINTER IS COMING) 1y

3. Shelve it if I love it, trade it for bookstore credit if I don‘t, and if I really want someone to read it I buy them their own copy. I‘ve been burned too many times loaning my books.
4. I don‘t but wish I did. I haven‘t found any around here.

TommieMarie74 Actually, the longest series I‘ve read would Anne of Green Gables. I read all the way through her adult years and the books about her daughter, Rilla. 1y
KatColmer Longest series would have to be Maggie Stiefvater‘s Shiver series. Only 4 books@and that was a while ago. 1y
KatColmer Series I gave up on ... I am number 4 Pitakus Lore. I think I got to the third and lost interest. 1y
