The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue | V. E. Schwab
In the vein of The Time Travelers Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times bestselling author V. E. Schwabs genre-defying tour de force. A Life No One Will Remember. A Story You Will Never Forget. France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live foreverand is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world. But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I took a gamble when I picked up this audiobook on Libby. Having read the synopsis I felt inclined to give it a shot, but also had a moment 's hesitation because I wasn't certain it would really be for me. 17 hours 10 minutes and 50 seconds in listening time later I am happy to report this was a solid pick! Such an incredibly well written and entertaining story.

Shhh... Small secret, it even made me cry. LoL

1. Louise Erdrich, Barbara Kingsolver, Margaret Atwood, V.E. Schwab (among others)
2. One of my favorite fantasy books is The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab (tagged)
3. I could easily go with V.E. Schwab here, too, for the Shades of Magic series. But I think I'll say S.A. Chakraborty. The Daevabad Trilogy was just amazing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ this book read like a fairy tale, which I really enjoyed! While it felt a little long at times…the last 100 pages were worth the story!

A romantasy that didn't hook me fast enough to endure. I picked this up on recommendation by a friend and because the premise and writing was great. Unfortunately, I don't connect with YA books that center on romance. I need a compelling "bigger story" which this book promised but didn't deliver soon enough.

For those of you who are into romance-centered stories, you will probably like this one.

What a whirlwind of a book! Personally, I love historical romances so this is a book that piqued my interest. The way that it was written, the flashbacks, the descriptions is very rich and full to the brin. Oh how I loved it! It‘s 542 pages but you‘d be able to finish fast because of the story. I know that when it becomes a movie, it‘ll be fantastic!!!

LoverOfLearning I FINALLY got around to reading this book, and we discussed it in my book club. Wow! A slow, beautiful yet gut-wrenching burn of a story. Solid 4 stars. 2mo
aimee23 @LoverOfLearning towards the end, there‘s a tugging in my heart that crept through my eyes and I found myself weeping a little. 😭 What a wonderful book! Literally just now finished! 2mo

I loved Henry and the story with him and Addie. I listened to the audio, and often lost interest when Luc would appear, so I likely missed much of that part of the story. Thinking back on the book as I write this, though, I debate about rating it ok rather than good. I suspect that rating will decrease with time and memory of the book (since it already has just a little)

I would never have read this if it hadn‘t been a book club pick. It was…interesting. And I did want to see how it ended but not really my thing. Should make for an interesting discussion on Saturday though.

Fall is my favorite and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is fitting the dark vibes of the season. Currently cheating on my NF books for some storytelling and feeling like that was the right choice.

I wasn't as enamored with this book as the rest of the world seemed to be, but I still enjoyed it! Addie's whole deal was just antithetical to how I see life, but I loved her zest for being alive and her relationship with Henry, and I desperately wanted to see how it all ended. If you've got more of a lust to get out of your daily life than I do, this is your story. #fantasy

I really enjoyed this. I found Addie to be an engaging character who was strong enough not to yield when things got tough but still capable of finding the joy and beauty in the world around her. I was able to guess some of the plot before it unfolded but still enjoyed the journey. The audio was done really well.

#BookReport
Didn't manage to finish anything this week but made good progress on my current reads. After last week's binge I probably needed to take a break anyways.

#WeeklyForecast
My goal this week is to finish Pump Six and continue on with Addie. Addie is my commute book so I probably won't finish it unless I listen outside of the car.

Ok it took a bit to stick with this because I‘ve seen minor variations on this idea so many times before. And frankly they‘re less sappy and less clunky. This is a love story with historical fiction trappings whose research feels elementary school at best. Where was the editor in all this? Read Life After Life, How to Stop Time or The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and skip this.

V.E. Schwab kicked off a tour for the paperback release of Addie LaRue in Seattle this evening! She was absolutely amazing and I am so inspired to start writing again (something I haven‘t really done since I was a kid). if you ever have the chance to hear her speak, don‘t miss it. I‘m moving her other titles up in my TBR now! #townhallseattle #irememberyou #veschwab

“Do you know how you live three hundred years?” she says. And when he asks how, she smiles. “The same way you live one. A second at a time.” … Would it be better to live a life free of sickness or age with no one to answer to but yourself or to live a life in which you will be remembered, to make a mark on the world and on people you love? 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I finished this toward the beginning of February & didn‘t know how to review it. So much has already been said about this book. It took me awhile to get into it, but the lyricism of the writing, the mystic story and the lovably strange characters made this a book that I just had to absorb, both as I read it and for quite awhile afterward. I can‘t wait to share this book with my friends who haven‘t read it!

Don‘t mind me just crying over here… I was entranced by this read. It kept me on my toes without jolting the story along. There was some sort of poetic grace and structure within this book that just gently pulled you along. I maybe a couple of times wanted the book to speed up a little bit just in anticipation of where was the story going to go! A delight of a read. Even though it was heartbreaking😩

This book genuinely restored my faith in V.E. Schwab books. I enjoyed it for the most part, although I did think for the longest time the characters were meant to be teens from the way they were written. I thought the sex scenes were kind of unnecessary, and wasn't on board with the ending, but that didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story.

I think I respect this, rather than love it, for going in a different direction than I thought it would.
It's taken me too long to pick up a V.E. Schwab, and I'll definitely be looking into her other works now.
Gorgeous writing, I was absolutely spellbound.
The interweaving of art in the narrative, (creation and inspiration), the appreciation for food, New York and bookstore cat! 1/2

Robotswithpersonality Stellar world building, the minutiae of how the curse would work, how a person would slowly learn to manage it best, while leaving the taxonomy of the darkness a mystery.
Three cheers for pansexual rep! 2/2

Finished a couple books this week.

First was this fantasy novel which was delightful. I loved following Addie through her long invisible life. Schwab writes characters that I immediately feel could be my friends & who I instantly cheer for… Addie was no different. So far, I‘ve loved everything I‘ve read by this author, just hadn‘t made time for this one yet. I‘m really glad I finally picked this one up thanks to @xicanti ‘s #auldlangspine list.
