The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Genre: Romance

This one was just ok, not terrible but not my favorite either. I liked the idea of the story but it fell a little flat for me. The banter between the characters was fun but the story itself just didn't hold my attention.

Currently working on these two and while I‘m really enjoying Cemetery Boys, Mexican Gothic has not been able to hold my attention. I did some on audio but the narrator was too monotone for me. I‘m going to give it a few more chapters and see if it ends up on my DNF list

BehindthePages I ended up dnfing Mexican Gothic. Too slow of s plot for me. 2mo

Sadie is about a girl trying to find the person who killed her little sister Mattie. Sadie ends up missing and her surrogate grandmother is desperate to find her. It's told in a dual timeline with Sadie as one POV and West McCray, a radio personality, as the other POV. West is working on a podcast about small towns and ends up hearing about Sadie's story. If you end up listening to the audiobook, it's a wonderful full-cast narration.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It‘s not one I would have normally picked up but a friend recommended it and I‘m glad I decided to read it. I listened to most of it on audio and one of my favorite narrators, January LaVoy narrated it. The story deals with intertwining relationships between a godmother and her goddaughters.

Usually when a book deals with lies, suspicions, and secrets, I‘m all in! I was excited to read this one and was left sorely disappointed. The only reason I finished the book at all was because I wanted to see how it ended. All of the main characters were unlikeable but the thing that turned me off was the writing. The story had zero depth and the writing itself was mediocre. Thankfully it wasn‘t a very long book so I didn‘t waste too much time.

The plot was interesting and the characters were diverse. My only gripe with the story was the stereotypical portrayal of a pitbull. One of the villains in the book has a dog and it was mean pitbull named Butch. Now, as an animal lover, I know all too well the bad rap that pitbulls get. I'm sure some will think it's silly, but it annoyed me 🤷🏾‍♀️. Aside from that, the story was solid.

I almost quit reading this because the first half was going too slow for me. Glad I didn‘t.

The story is about two twin brothers, Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, and the complexity of their relationship as well as the relationships between them and their mother and step-father. Betrayal, devastation, alienation, and forgiveness are major themes in this book and Wally Lamb does a great job tying everything together.

Prairiegirl_reading I read this years ago and it was emotionally exhausting but so well written from what I remember. I lent my copy to someone and they never gave it back. 9mo

While the story was entertaining and had me on the edge of my seat, this fictional story could easily have been a real life scenario for any black man or woman in America. The corruption and rush to judge just because the person is black is all too familiar. I had all the feels while reading, frustration, sadness, and anger. I know this type of thing happens all the time and I feel like things will never change.

When it comes to romance, the enemies to lovers trope is my favorite.

Calla hasn't been back to Alaska since she and her mother moved to Toronto when she was 2. After finding out her estranged father is ill, she heads back to spend time with him and finally get to know him. While there she meets Jonah, her father's right hand man. The sexual tension between the two was just delicious and I couldn't get enough of the story.

While flying back home to Chicago, Kate has just found out her dad has killed himself. Her soon-to-be ex-husband wants nothing to do with her and she now has to go back to the city she grew up in so she can bury her father.

I really didn't like Kate. I found her to be entitled, spoiled, and unable to take responsibility for her actions. Ironically enough, Kate is a failed screenwriter and I feel like this book would actually make a better movie.

This one was better than I expected! The story takes place in England, in the early 1900s. There are several main characters in the book and the first half of the story is kind of retold through each character's eyes, but as they tell it, missing information from a previous character's POV is filled in. The ending left me reeling and I need to know what happens next. I‘ve already checked out book 2

Hot damn, if you want to read a story about a deranged woman with little grip on reality, this is the book for you. Alternating between past and present, and multiple POVs, the story is about a woman who loses her daughter but then by chance, finds another connection to her. I did figure out some of happened about midway through the book but things were so messed up that I didn‘t get the full story until the end.

This was a slow burn thriller that kept me wondering what would happen next. Told in two time periods, this is a story that will leave you wondering about what you would do if you had a psychopath for a daughter.
