Mehso-so

This was surprisingly disappointing. There were so many characters I found it distracting. And because of that I didn't feel particularly attached or connected to any of the MC's storylines. And when I lose interest in the story, I get bored. I liked the description of 1980s Malibu, though. Would've loved more of that.

I loved Daisy Jones and The Six, though.

Fun romance set in Key West. A woman is stood up by her boyfriend so she enlists the help of a hot stranger to step in as said boyfriend, all to avoid stressing out her family. Side characters were a bit flat, but I'm guessing that's kinda because this is the first in a new series. Deals with some heavy stuff, like eating disorders and trauma. So fun to read about a "tropical" location right now!

This was so good! Historical romance about a strong woman forced to marry the man who has just financially ruined her family (or so she thinks). The hero is an alpha male who actually THINKS about the consequences of his actions, and figures out that love shouldn't be a weapon used to trap someone.

I got this as part of a care package I purchased through The Ripped Bodice. Such a great choice! Highly recommended.

So so good. What a beautiful writer Audre Lorde was. And how depressing it is to read about her struggles with racism, sexism, and homophobia 35 years ago and recognize all of it in today's world.

Highly recommended.

Finished this sweet, fast read earlier this week. Tore through it in two sittings. Conrad and Alden are two young men stuck in a cross country trip together to compete at a table top game convention in Las Vegas. The issue: they despise each other. Except they don't really know each other. I ADORE the enemies to lovers trope, so I enjoyed this love story, minus a few quibbles. Thanks to #sourcebookscasa for the free #arc.

That was pretty good. I kind of thought the husband was a big ol' jerk and I'm usually not interested in reading about married couples struggling with their relationship, but this was oddly compelling for me. I loved the descriptions of the places where they traveled, and of the actual sailing experience. Not a hugely uplifting book, though.

This was fascinating. A snapshot of Churchill's first year as Prime Minister during the beginning of World War II. I found this strangely comforting, and encouraging. If London and the rest of the UK survived the Blitz I feel like this too shall pass.

Roughly 4.5 hours of reading in so far today. Separated by a couple hours of having to deal with a sewer backup 😣. Sigh.

Solid meh. The ending redeemed a lot of it. I enjoyed the relationships between the girls, but would've liked more world building. Or maybe better world building? I never got a good sense of the place or of the technology, honestly. Not my favorite.

#stayhome24in48 #owlcrateathon

Sace Such a shame. The cover is cool! 2y
gossamerchild @Sace it's a pretty personal response to the book. If you like scifi/fantasy that's more character-driven than world building it's not bad. And the focus on empathy for people different than you was great. It just wasn't what I was expecting. 2y
Sace @gossamerchild I'm not into sci-fi/fantasy at all. I just always feel a little sad when a book is pretty but someone wasn't into the book. I know I know...can't judge a book by its cover 🤣 2y

😲 😍 😓 I'm not sure what else to say about this short collection (is it really short? 84 pages of poetry seems like an awful lot to me). I don't know enough about poetry to have the right vocabulary to describe this book, but damn. It is a powerful book. Loved it. Might need to buy it in order to do it more justice. Fantastic piece of writing. Highly recommended.

I picked this up at #pla2020 last week in Nashville and tore right through it. Alvarez is ana amazing writer, and my only complaint is that the book is too short. Antonia is a recently retired professor, whose beloved husband has also recently passed away. Two other life-changing events occur in the course of the book, making Antonia question her own humanity. I particularly love the descriptions of The Sisterhood. Great, quick read!

Omg, this book 😳😮😍💗💓💕💞. I'm not sure I can say enough to give this book its due. This is Rushdie at his best. Magical realism at its finest. Storytelling at its peak. This. THIS is the type of literary fiction that I adore. A modern retelling of Don Quixote told by a master.

Highly HIGHLY recommended. Possibly my favorite read of the year.

I *mostly* liked this. Once I got over my immediate and very long term annoyance with Juliet (does she ever describe her brother as anything other than chubby? That really bothered me), I enjoyed the book. I didn't think the storytelling aspect of it was particularly strong, but I appreciate what the author is doing. I loved the characters (except possibly Juliet).

Overall, I'd recommend this to teens and anyone wanting to read more #ownvoices.
