And tonight‘s final update, since I‘m on a roll for once, my next read. I‘ve got a feeling mystery/thriller might be my preferred genre this year. Any recommendations? I particularly enjoy locked room mysteries 🕵🏻

I‘ve been so indecisive lately about what to read next. I have a poll going in my classroom to have my students choose for me 😂 But I‘ve just been in a slump again. Going to try out October‘s book club book next. I also wrote my first blog post in a year (link in bio!!), so maybe I‘ll get back to book reviews again!? I love writing but always forget to post anything 🙃

My review of this month‘s #bookspin book that I can‘t believe I finished 🥳 already. Definitely a book I would have enjoyed more as a kid, if I could have followed all of the characters. Outdated language also took me away from the story. I‘m looking forward to my #doublespin this week! With cover illustrated by my fave Charlie Bowater 🥰

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! This was one I didn't enjoy as much with my reread as an adult as I did when I read it back in the day. Some of those childhood favorites hold up better than others, I guess. 6mo

This has been in my classroom for years (and I had inherited this well-worn copy). Finally reading it. I love a good closed room mystery. Not 100% sure if this counts as closed room, but close enough. It‘s okay, a little outdated perhaps. One I‘ve wanted to check off my list for a while though, and it‘s short! 😂

mandarchy I read that recently for some of the same reasons. I have a classroom set in my library and I was debating weeding it. My copies look exactly like yours. Also my boss insisted that I read the Parker Inheritance and it's mentioned a lot in that book. 6mo
cewilf @mandarchy I didn‘t love it. I might take it out of the library now. I think I just ordered the Parker Inheritance actually! 6mo
mandarchy I kept it in case someone wanted to read it with the Parker Inheritance, but my students are not reading the Parker Inheritance. It seems that reading stamina was dropping and with the pandemic it has taken a dive. If someone doesn't borrow the class set from me soon, it's getting weeded. 6mo

Tagging a random book because this one isn‘t on Litsy. I‘ve been reading romances lately thanks to about a million TikTok recommendations I‘ve come across, and I‘m about to start book two in this series. Witches, mages, demons, etc, very entertaining! After seeing this book incessantly on TikTok, I finally gave in 😂 I don‘t know what I expected, but this wasn‘t as bad as it could have been. Very much an 18+ read. Check the TW. I don‘t know if I‘ll read any others in the series (I think there are 22 total!?) but I‘m thinking these might serve as a quick break in between longer books.

This was wonderful, not at all what I expected. If you read some Goodreads reviews, others mention how oddly this was marketed as a YA romance. There is some romance, but really the only YA part of the book is their age. I don‘t usually pick up space books (they stress me out!) but this has great twists and was totally worth the read. Brings up some great questions about life and our purpose as humans.

This book kind of felt like an early episode of Supernatural - especially with the big bad not having much of a resolution. Obviously this is the first in a long series... but I wasn‘t super impressed. I don‘t love second person addresses to the reader, and there were a lot of “you‘ll see later” moments. How about, show me now? 🤪 But I have the second book and do want to see if it gets better, so I‘ll keep reading for now! | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

25% in, not sure about this. I don‘t often read urban fantasy, & this one is pretty dated. Mentions of iPods and Internet cafes are a bit much for me😂 This book is making me realize that I must avoid this issue bc I prefer high fantasy or just older books without much tech. I‘m also not loving the verb tense? The character is telling the story from a year later, but some sentences are just weird. Along with all the cheese and pink nail polish.

Eh. Kinda cute at times. Mostly predictable. I found myself skimming through paragraphs to get to something actually happening vs the protagonist‘s inner monologue. A shorter read in-between the series I have going on. A writer goes to his family‘s Vermont cabin to beat writer‘s block and starts to receive threats and a murder occurs. Bought on an impulse, interested to see how this one is.
