When all your library holds come in at once! Today‘s #bookhaul includes the tagged book for #SheSaid & Emma of 83rd Street for #Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent (not a fan of the audiobook narration so going for print) & I have catching up to do for both. Others for #SeriesLove2024 & the graphic novel is for a reading challenge prompt.

The book🐔🐔are worried that with the other 2 I have checked out & not read yet, I won‘t get to all of them.🤷🏻‍♀️

Crazeedi I have a stack like yours, and I hope I get through them before I have to return!! 1mo
Suet624 Yikes. That‘s a lot. Good luck. 👍🏻 1mo

monalyisha Love the book chickens! BO(o)K BO(o)K! 🐓🐓 1mo
monalyisha I think it‘s okay to have a big stack of library books. I say that not impartially. 😅 It‘s not necessarily that you‘re going to get to them all…but a reader needs choices! 1mo

Dad: I‘m going to use my fortune to force my daughter to have a child.
Mom: I‘m going to use parental privilege to force my daughter to be sterilized.
Power Elite & other Jerk Faces: We are going to use this case to reinforce our claim that we should control the bodies of women and entire groups of people who we don‘t like.

#wondrouswednesday

1. It‘s been a while because I‘m stingy giving 5 🌟

2. It‘s not an easy read, but it provides an insightful examination on race & gender justice, reproductive rights, and control of one‘s body.

3. Space or a fantasy world

Eggs Thanks for playing 🥳 9mo

I nearly forgot to post about this book, which probably says it all.
Covering the undoubtedly important and horrific topic of forced sterilisation in the US in the 1970s I found that the way the book was written didn‘t do anything for me.
#booked2023 #reproductiverights

azulaco That‘s a shame about the writing. It‘s such a potent subject. A well-written book could be devastatingly good. 11mo

Singout
Pickpick

This was an excellent piece of Canadian women's history I didn't know about: a caravan of 17 women who travelled from BC to Ottawa in 1970, with multiple stops en route, to demand a just law for abortion on demand from the federal government. The climax was a few chaining themselves to seats in the House while 300 more protested outside. Vivid descriptions of people, and dynamics.

#Nonfiction2023 #GoodbyeEarl

Amiable Send that caravan down here to the U.S. -- we need it right now! 😣 (edited) 12mo
Singout Right? Women and queer people can never be complacent about our victories. 12mo

#BookYouOftenRecommend One of my most frequently recommended books of the past year. I finally watched the HBO documentary last night, and while I didn‘t think it captured the spirit of the book or did it justice, I know it will reach a lot of people the book won‘t and I want this story to be told. #MarchMagic @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

I don‘t deal very well with books about perfect mothers or, in this case, about mothers teached to be perfect. Or what is supposed to be perfect. I guess I could have known but I needed a book to tick-off the #ReproductiveRights prompt of #Booked2023 (and yes I know it‘s a bit far fetched). Also the dystopian part of the book felt so lazily done. Nothing is dystopian in the book except for that stupid school.

(Pic: Vermeer exhibition 🥰)

squirrelbrain Great pic! Yes, I agree with your thoughts on the dystopian aspect of this book; it wasn‘t fleshed out at all. (Actually not ever mentioned) 13mo
Bookwormjillk Very cool! 13mo

ChaoticMissAdventures I was scared this was going to be on the Women's Prize long list, because as a child free person nothing about the book sounds appealing. I think I would be in your camp about it. 13mo
Cinfhen Love the Vermeer and your review / I bailed on this book - I just wasn‘t feeling any of it 🤷🏼‍♀️ 13mo
Cortg It was ok for me but I gave it a pick because it made an excellent book club discussion 😀 13mo
LeahBergen Oh, lovely. I went to the Vermeer Centre when I was in Delft. 13mo
batsy Oh wow, that exhibition ? Great review, btw. "Good mother" discourse always sets me off, too. 13mo
BarbaraBB @LeahBergen You were in Delft? Cool! 13mo
BarbaraBB @batsy 28 of his 35 known paintings are here now, it is really fantastic. 13mo

Pickpick

Unfortunately there is so much negative stigma around abortion and those who chose to undergo the procedure that most never share or speak of the experience. Dr. Meera Shah, a physician who provides female healthcare including performing abortions shares personal stories from women and men who have gone through the process. The stories are often difficult as many are facing terrible medical situations. This book sheds light on the importance👇🏼

Cinfhen of self autonomy - making it CLEAR that the right to have an abortion is 💯 a woman‘s right and no government, family member or religious belief should be in the equation. I‘ve always been pro-choice but this book strengthened my belief.

KarenUK This sounds excellent…. I think I might steal this idea for the #booked2023 prompt…. Stacked! 1y
sarahbarnes Amazing review. ♥️♥️ This sounds like an incredible book. 1y
BarbaraBB Well said. Totally agree! And it works good for the various prompts! 1y
LaraReads This looks very good! 1y
Cinfhen The level of shame and judgment these individuals face is heartbreaking @KarenUK @sarahbarnes @BarbaraBB @LaraReads even from within the medical community was really appalling- im not sure how we are still having this discussion in 2023!!!! 1y
Cinfhen Thanks @Librarybelle I love antique roses but their shelf life is too short 😣 1y
sarahbarnes Seriously how is it possible?!! 😔 1y
dabbe @Cinfhen Well said! 👏❣️🙌 1y
Deblovestoread 💯! Once abortion became a political tool for the right everything changed. Stacked. 1y
Megabooks Great review Cindy!! #stacked!! 👍🏻👍🏻 1y
Cinfhen @dabbe @Deblovestoread @Megabooks I appreciate that the author chose to focus on the woman‘s stories and leave politics mostly out of the discussion. She made the book about protecting the rights of women and not about calling out the right or left. 1y
marleed Oh stacked! 1y
Hooked_on_books This was such a good book. It‘s so important for abortion stories to be told to take back the narrative from those who want it to be something other than it is. For every abortion, there‘s a slightly different story, I truly believe. 1y
