I could listen to David Attenborough read my grocery list and be riveted! He is that good. His superior narration skills add depth to this compendium of the history of life on earth. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and know that I will listen to it again. It is chock-a-block with interesting information, so much so that I found myself re-listening to various chapters. Well worth a read, or maybe several! 5/5⭐️

This was my first Maya Angelou read and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her reading her own work. Both Angelou and her mother were strong, fearless women who faced some really harsh moments. Somehow, they always found a way to rise above adversity. And, after a rocky beginning, both supported one another unconditionally in adulthood. I look forward to reading Angelou's other biographies as well. #AuthorAMonth

I have had this book on my TBR for decades! The true-crime story was intriguing, if written in a bit of a pedestrian manner. Still, it held my interest. The events occurred in the 1980s but continue to remain a hot topic in Florida where the murders happened. I always find the study of the human condition alluring and this book provides insights into what compels people to do the (terrible) things they do. 3/5⭐️

All the stars! What an excellent book. It was dark and foreboding, but how could it not be given the subject matter. I'm always surprised with how cruel humanity can be when people don't understand something. Fear is a great motivator, unfortunately. This story kept me thinking. Even when I wasn't reading it, my mind would wander back to it. I feel sure that I'll read this again someday. 5/5⭐️

Sweet story! I thought the author captured the growing pains of young relationships well. I have to say tho, these 16/17 YOs are WAY more put together than I was at that age. Yes, they‘re grappling with a lot of stuff, but they‘re much more mature about it than I was. Maybe it would have been more appropriate if the characters were in college? At any rate, it still works and I enjoyed this story a lot. 4/5⭐️

Ahh, I wish this wasn't the last book in this series! It was the perfect mix of mystery and history with a smidgeon of romance. Started reading this book today for this month‘s #ChildrensClassicRead2021 pick. I started listening while vacuuming and carried right on listening while I worked on my puzzle. Pollyanna seems like a very wise little girl. 🧩🎧

TheBookHippie I love a good jigsaw puzzle! 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @TheBookHippie I do too! But this one is taking me ages.😅Almost there… 13mo
ladym30 That puzzle is gorgeous!❤️ 13mo

What a fantastic audiobook! So glad that I found it for the #BookRiotReadHarderChallenge2021, “Read a book of nature poems.” Listening to this book, I felt like I was in the middle of a forest surrounded by wildlife. And every so often, a beautiful voice would read a poem. Absolutely captivating! The print version looks beautiful as well. I may have to purchase it to enjoy the artwork. 5/5⭐️

UwannaPublishme Uh-oh! You just added another book to my TBR. 😁 13mo
Tamra I have it in print and it‘s worth every penny. Truly. (edited) 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme Oops, sorry (not sorry)😅I think this is a great one for your TBR. The audiobook wasn‘t very long, about 47 minutes. But so worth it. Really wonderful! 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @Tamra That‘s wonderful to hear! From what I‘ve seen online, it looks beautiful. Definitely a lovely addition to my permanent collection. 👍🏽 13mo
UwannaPublishme 😁 I can easily handle 47 minutes. 👍🏻 13mo

This month‘s pick for the #ChildrensClassicRead2021 was a winner! I did a combo read, both audio and print, and I really enjoyed it. This is a reread for me, and it won‘t be my last. I love the POV of this book, even though some parts were upsetting. But, the end was quite satisfying. 4/5⭐️

GingerAntics Oh, this one could be amazing on audio. I‘m checking my library right now. I can‘t believe I didn‘t even think of that before now. 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @GingerAntics I really enjoyed the audio version! I wasn‘t sold at first, but quickly came round. If you can‘t find it at your library, you can listen for free via stories.audible.com! 13mo
GingerAntics @PurpleyPumpkin it looks like that exact same audiobook. I am very excited to try this when I get some reading time I little later. 13mo

Suet624 My favorite repeat read from childhood. 13mo
TheBookHippie It‘s been wonderful!! I‘m finishing tomorrow ! 13mo
batsy Great review. It's my first time reading it and it has honestly taken me by surprise. Darker and sadder than I expected and with good reason. I'm reading on Serial Reader so hope to finish it soon :) 13mo
GingerAntics @PurpleyPumpkin the audio is amazing! Thanks for pointing me in that direction. 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @Suet624 It has become mine as well!💜 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @TheBookHippie Oh, I hope you enjoy! Such a lovely ending. 💜 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @batsy Yes, particularly given the fact that it‘s supposed to be a children‘s book, it is quite dark in parts. But it‘s told in a gentle way somehow. Enjoy the rest of your reading!👍🏽 13mo
PurpleyPumpkin @GingerAntics So glad you‘re enjoying the audiobook!✅ 13mo
UwannaPublishme Totally agree with you and @batsy Much darker and sadder than I expected but such an important message. 13mo

This would probably resonate more in trying times. For me, the short statements acted as reminders of how strong and resilient we can be when life gets tough. 3/5⭐️

UwannaPublishme This last year certainly tested our resilience. Glad we‘re emerging strong and mighty. 💪🏻 13mo

This was such an immersive and compelling read that I finished it in 3 days! It‘s been a while since I‘ve read a book that quickly. I appreciated the story being told from the POV of the affected individual. It really provided insights into Alzheimer‘s for me. A hard read but well worth the effort. 5/5⭐️

Amiable Oh, I loved this book. Have you read “Inside the O‘Briens” by this same author? Sooo good! 14mo
PurpleyPumpkin @Amiable You know, I haven‘t! And I have it on my tbr too. 😅 This is my first LG read, although I own four of her books. Glad that I have lots to look forward to. She‘s an excellent writer!👍🏽 14mo
Elizabeth2 Loved this book! 💗 14mo

PurpleyPumpkin @Elizabeth2 So did I! I thought the POV was really well done, so authentic. 14mo
Elizabeth2 @PurpleyPumpkin totally agree, and Genova did it so well. 💗 14mo
UwannaPublishme This is also on my TBR, but it‘s such a tough read and so close to home. I hope to read it one day. 14mo
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme I agree, the subject matter is difficult. This book was on my TBR for many years. I finally read it because of a prompt on this year‘s Ultimate Pop Sugar Reading Challenge, “a book about forgetting.” I‘m glad I got around to it. 13mo

This was my last read for April. The first time I read this book was when I was in Grade 8 or 9. It was definitely time for reread. This time around, I thought I‘d do a combo read of both the audio and print versions. I was not disappointed! I found it interesting that reviewers on Goodreads seemed to either love or hate this book. I get both of those views, but I am firmly in the love camp. 5/5⭐️

MsMelissa I last read this one in grade 13 English Lit (since you‘re a Canuck I won‘t have to explain grade 13 to you LOL), and am about to start a re-read for #ThatsClassic. I‘m hoping it lives up to my memories as I‘ve always been firmly in the love camp, too 😊 14mo
PurpleyPumpkin @MsMelissa Haha Grade 13 brings back memories! I hope you enjoy your reread. I have to say that the audiobook really breathed life into the narrative. If you enjoy audiobooks, you can listen for free on the internet via Audible‘s Stories, stories.audible.com. Looking forward to reading your review!👍🏽 14mo
susanw I have that exact same edition sitting on my shelf, from HS English with my school stamp on the inside. Though, I think my Cole‘s Notes is long gone 14mo
See All 8 Comments
PurpleyPumpkin @susanw I just can‘t part with this old friend! The Coles Notes are helpful but almost as long as the novel!😂 14mo
MsMelissa Sadly, I can‘t do audiobooks. For some reason I can‘t focus on what‘s being said. The only time I successfully listened to some was during a several weeks long bout of constant vertigo. Audiobooks were my saving grace as lying in bed listening to them was the only thing I could do! 14mo
UwannaPublishme I may have to put this on my TBR, though I‘m not a big fan of one of her sisters. 🤭 14mo
PurpleyPumpkin @MsMelissa I completely understand! It took me quite some time to get into audiobooks. I‘m a convert now. 🎧 14mo
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme Well, you may not enjoy this one then. It‘s very dark, but I just love her writing. It‘s really too bad that she only wrote this one book. 14mo

I‘m on a mission to read Agatha Christie‘s works in publication order! 😅This book was published under her pseudonym and it really does read like a book written by another author. But the trademark excellent writing is still here along with a very interesting story. 4/5⭐️

Suet624 I don't think I knew she wrote under a pseudonym. 14mo
PurpleyPumpkin @Suet624 I didn‘t either until I started this journey! She wrote six novels under this name so there‘s more to look forward to. 😉 14mo
LeahBergen I want to read these, too. 👍 14mo

PurpleyPumpkin @batsy Great writing but completely different from her mysteries, in a good way! 14mo

What a lovely birthday surprise! @UwannaPublishme thank you so much for your thoughtful care package! The tote, chocolate, socks, and snacks are all wonderful! And that mug! I‘m very much looking forward to a couple of buddy reads with you and my new friend.🐰I‘ve been wanting to read both of these books for quite some time. Thanks again Donna!😘

LeahBergen Happy Birthday!! 💜📚💜📚 1y
PurpleyPumpkin Aww thanks so much @LeahBergen! 🥰🤗 (edited) 1y
UwannaPublishme Yay! So glad the package made it there in time. I was afraid the snacks might not make it past customs. Especially if someone was hungry! 😉Keep celebrating and have a fun and fabulous birthday, my friend. 🤗💕🎂🎁🎉📚 1y

PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme Yup, your package arrived a little over a week ago! 🙌🏽You must have had to mail it at the beginning of March with how long mail seems to take to be delivered these days. 😅But it got here safe and sound, snacks and all. I didn‘t know you could send snacks over the border!✅It really was a lovely and thoughtful surprise. I truly appreciated it. 🤗 1y
UwannaPublishme I read up on what I could send. Good thing because I almost sent some sesame honey almonds. Then I found out no nuts are allowed. Maybe there‘s a double meaning in there! 😆 Anyway, have a great birthday month full of many more surprises and fun reads! 🥳💕 1y
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme Smart thinking on your part! I had no idea that you couldn‘t send nuts. 😂 I know I‘ve sent you some tea and chocolate, but I was guessing that it would be okay. 😅 Thanks again for making my birthday extra special my friend!🤗 1y
UwannaPublishme Big birthday hugs to you, Kimberly! P.S. I did enjoy the almonds on your behalf! 😁❤️ 1y

UwannaPublishme I keep hearing great things about this one. Okay! Another one for my TBR. 😁👍🏻 (edited) 1y
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme The books in this series are pretty light, but entertaining, fare. They're my go-to books when I'm hitting a bit of a reading slump. And they always get me going again! 1y

I finished this book late last week, so I‘m a bit late with my review. But I wanted to share how very much I enjoyed this series. And even though it was written quite a while ago, I think kids today would still enjoy Ramona‘s adventures. My thanks to @UwannaPublishme for reminding me about these books. The audiobooks with Stockard Channing as narrator were really well-done! 4/5⭐️

Kloves2read I remember reading these as a kid! Loved these books. I believe Romona Forever was my favorite one, in the series! 1y
PurpleyPumpkin @Kloves2read I know I read a couple in the series when I was a kid, but haven‘t a clue which ones! So, I thought I‘d do a reread via audiobook. I‘m so glad I did! 1y
UwannaPublishme So glad you enjoyed them! And now you‘ve inspired me to finish the series. 😊 1y
