I finished this audiobook a while ago, but neglected to post a review. Oops! I wasn‘t particularly drawn to the main character, Rebekah Roberts, but the story was interesting enough to finish. I especially enjoyed a glimpse into a Hasidic neighbourhood in New York, and I think the author did a pretty thorough job in her research and portrayal of the community. The interview with the author at the end of the audiobook was enlightening. 3/5⭐️

UwannaPublishme Love the book cover! My Mom‘s from Brooklyn, so I‘ve been on that bridge a few times. 5d

January was very cold and snowy in my neck of the woods. I think that partially explains the number of books I read. I read more in a month than I have in a very long time! Here‘s hoping this trend continues. Add to that that most of the books I read I rated at 4 or 5 stars, and I‘d say this was a pretty successful reading month!😉📚📚📚

I‘m finally getting around to reading this book that you sent me last year @FantasyChick ! It‘s the perfect day to read and stay indoors. It‘s so blustery outside. 💨 I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday.

Zelma Sounds so cozy. It‘s finally cold here and I plan the exact same type of day! 6mo
PurpleyPumpkin @Zelma Good for you! Enjoy. 😉📚 6mo
FantasyChick Nothing says cozy on a cold day like a mystery! Hope you enjoy it! 6mo
PurpleyPumpkin @FantasyChick It‘s really interesting! And you‘re right, it was the perfect read for today. Thanks for picking it!👍🏽 6mo

I bought this book a while ago via Audible, but I just got around to reading/listening to it recently. So, I‘m not sure what initially drew me to it. I suspect it was the cover and the fact that it was set in Italy, a country I love. It was an interesting premise, but it took me a while to get into it. While I didn‘t fall head over heels for this novel, I did end up enjoying it.

TheKidUpstairs This was purely a cover- buy for me too. And I feel the same, liked it but didn't love it as much as I'd wanted to. It did make me want to hole up in some little hotel in a small coastal town in Italy, though! 6mo
PurpleyPumpkin @TheKidUpstairs Glad it wasn‘t just me! So many reviewers seemed to love it that I felt kinda bad. I gave it 3 ⭐️ on GR and felt that was generous. Still, I loved the Italy parts and the book did make me want to rush back for a visit! 6mo
AlaMich I‘m with you on the rating, but I did feel that the audio added to the book. 6mo
PurpleyPumpkin @AlaMich Yes, I completely agree! Audio was the way to go. I‘m not sure I would have continued if I‘d been reading a physical copy. The characterization of Richard Burton was hilarious! He kept me listening. 6mo

Diane's story was compelling and educational. It was hard to learn about how she became parentless at the age of 14 when her parents were deported to Colombia. She was forever scarred and her experiences made for some rough times ahead. I applaud her willingness to share her story with the world and hope that it will contribute to bringing about change to the immigration system in the US. 3/5⭐️

UwannaPublishme Amen to that! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7mo

This audiobook was recommended to me as a good beach-read, and I completely agree. It's lighthearted with a feel-good ending. I didn't find it uproariously funny. But there were some LOL moments, usually created by Don Tilman's inability to see the world as most other people do. I predicted the ending about halfway through the book, but getting to the conclusion was still entertaining. Save this one for when you're going on a holiday.

BookaholicNatty I loved this book soooo much!!!!! 7mo
DivineDiana This book made me happy! ❤️ 7mo
PurpleyPumpkin @BookaholicNatty @DivineDiana It was a fun read! Have either of you read the next two books in the series? I enjoyed this one, but I feel like it‘s enough for now. 7mo
DivineDiana No, I only read the first one. I knew there was a second one, but had no idea about a third! 7mo

This book reminded very much of The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney. Both books deal with wealthy families and the inherent problems that arise due to their affluence. I couldn't identify with any of the characters except Rachel. But of course, this was by design. It‘s a crazy story and I constantly asked myself, “do people really live like this?” But it was an entertaining read. 3.5/5⭐️

Laughterhp I‘ve read the Nest, but haven‘t read this yet... so good to know! 7mo
Reviewsbylola I liked this better than The Nest but it definitely has the same vibe. 7mo

I can hardly believe that September has come and gone! Time for my #septemberwrapup. I read more than in August, but I‘m still behind on my overall 2018 reading target of 100 books (I‘ve read 55). Still, it was a fun reading month and I‘m looking forward to some #spookyreading in October.

CouronneDhiver It‘s all good. 👍🏽 That‘s still a very respectable amount of reading ... 8mo
PurpleyPumpkin @CouronneDhiver I thought it wasn‘t too bad. I‘m finding that 7-8 books per month is a comfortable amount for me. 😉 8mo
CouronneDhiver You‘re kicking my butt... I seem to be getting through a book a week, on average. 8mo
See All 8 Comments
PurpleyPumpkin @CouronneDhiver Tbh, I‘ve had lighter reading months too. But I figure that as long as I keep reading, that‘s what matters. 🙌🏽 We‘ll get there! 8mo
UwannaPublishme 2 books a week? Wow! That's very impressive. 🙌🏻 Les Mis is taking up most of my time, but I'm getting ready to wrap it up and enjoy some lighter reads. 😊📚 8mo
PurpleyPumpkin @UwannaPublishme I had some shorter reads in there which helped. Big books like Les Mis are great to read, but they do monopolize reading time. Kudos to you for finishing it! 🙌🏽 7mo
UwannaPublishme After Les Mis, my next book may be a pamphlet! 😁 7mo

I saw a fellow Litten‘s review of one of these books, and my interest was piqued. I‘m not much of a romance reader, but these books set in Regency England were light, fun reads. The audiobooks read by Davina Porter were really excellent and most entertaining! If you‘re in a reading slump, I‘m betting these will get you out of it tout suite. When I finished the last book, I realized that I had read them all within one month. 😳👍🏽

LeslieO I love the covers! 8mo
PurpleyPumpkin @LeslieO In creating this post, realized that there are quite a few different covers for this series. But these are my favourites. 💜 8mo
AlaMich Aren‘t they great? They‘re just the thing when you want something fluffy and entertaining. And I agree that Porter reads them so well! 8mo
See All 7 Comments
PurpleyPumpkin @AlaMich They were so much fun! I have to admit that when I read they were romance novels, I cringed a bit. But they were that and more. Porter‘s narrative was the icing on the cake. 8mo
AlaMich @PurpleyPumpkin Marion Chesney (aka M. C. Beaton) has written a boatload of Regency series that are super similar to this one: House for the Season, The Six Sisters, The School for Manners, The Travelling Matchmaker (remember, these are series, not individual books!) 8mo
PurpleyPumpkin Wow, I knew she had written other series, but I didn‘t realize she wrote THAT many! Thanks for letting me know @AlaMich. I will definitely check them out. 👍🏽😉 8mo
UwannaPublishme These covers are just stunning! I don't do much romance reading myself, but these sound too good to pass up. Glad to see you here. Hope you're doing great! 🤗📚 8mo

I finished this book yesterday while enjoying the afternoon outdoors.☀️ I now understand why so many fellow Littens voted for this one for #MakeMeReadIt this month. This novel follows four generations of Koreans who forge a life in Japan. It‘s a sweeping tale of love, loss and survival. I found myself invested in the characters pretty quickly. 4/5⭐️

I finished this book yesterday while it was pouring rain! It was a nice way to while away my time. I hadn't heard of Irby before I saw several Littens review and love her work. Based on all the positiveness, I thought I'd read this book and I wasn't disappointed. Irby writes with a candour and honesty that I can only dream about. The cherry on top is that she writes in such a humorous way. 3/5⭐️

I quite enjoyed this most recent installment in the Robert Langdon series. Fast-paced action combined with building suspense always gets me hooked, even if the writing isn‘t particularly artful. But so it goes with Dan Brown novels. You definitely don‘t read them for their literary prowess. And that‘s okay, because it‘s entertainment that I‘m looking for in reading his books. 4/5⭐️

ReadingOver50 This was a good one 😄 10mo
PurpleyPumpkin @ReadingOver50 It definitely was! This and the first are my favourites in the series. 10mo
