Italy again! Another visit to Venice with Commissario Brunetti. Once again, it's a private rather than criminal quest. Echoes of my visit to Venice and Brunetti's ruminations on post-pandemic life in his city. Always enjoyable, an old friend.

Another book club read. Fascinating to have the Italian and English text side-by-side. Interesting exploration of her journey to write in Italian. Loved it, memories if my time in Rome in early 2020.
The next afternoon, I decide to explore the town on my own since my schedule is free.

Such a great read, serious themes but also humour and love. Fabulous debut novel.
Just wow. This book has sat on my shelf for years. I loved these 'jagged' short stories, every one was a gem. The title was last story was a pitch perfect Austen inspired piece.
Fascinating group readalong with the #tandemcollective.
Topical storyline, two friends with secrets - highly recommended.
Beautifully told Haenjo women divers' family story spanning generations. Set against backdrop WW2 and the Korean War.
Bookclub favourite.

Eloquently told, an exquisite coming of age tale. A mysterious stranger befriends a family of stranded children.
Highly recommended.

Can't wait for the unwrap - your notes are so cute.
Thanks for hosting @MaleficentBookDragon

All through the day of Christmas Eve Dr Stahlbaum‘s children had not been allowed into the dining room, much less into the drawing room opening out of it.

Finally finished, it was a bit of a marathon but so glad that I did. Beautiful, lyrical and such insight. It spans a single day, interspersed with her memories.
Just wow. A dystopian fable for our times.
For me, there were echoes of Marilynne Robinson's Lila and Emma Hooper's Our Homesick Songs.
The story was told to me by my old tutor Theo Parmitter as we sat beside the fire in his college rooms one bitterly cold January night.

A worthy winner of the Miles Franklin prize. Great bookclub pick. One woman's journey.
We're on a short holiday and both reading Grisham. Did not enjoy Winds as much as Camino Island. It still gets you in but there's less about the bookshop and the bookish crowd.
I visualise Bay Books as being like the Coronado Island bookshop which I visited in 2019. Is it still there? I recall it's lease was under threat?
