#NewYearWhoDis list by @Clare-Dragonfly !!
I‘ve already read(and adored!) Red White and Royal blue… so I‘ll start with Girl, Serpent, Thorn! ♥️ And try out Piranesi which seems to be on a lot of peoples‘ fave list. Also I must‘ve looked up winterkeep a million times. Every time I see the cover it reminds me I need to stop borrowing Graceling from the library and actually read it. Maybe it‘ll happen this year 😇

magyklyXdelish Girl serpent thorn is one of my faves I‘ve read this year, by far! And Piranesi was strange but wonderful and that one I say go in as blind as you can ♥️ 2w
magyklyXdelish Also Burn Our Bodies Down I lived as well!! Wonderful list!! 2w
Clare-Dragonfly I agree with everything @magyklyXdelish said! 😁 And yes, definitely read Graceling, Fire, and Bitterblue before Winterkeep. They‘re all so good! Also if you want to read Burn Our Bodies down but are concerned about any triggers, let me know and I can help you out with that. 2w

🤔I loved the beginning and that ending! The world building was EFFORTLESS!! But the middle was QUITE slow😖I felt like the whole book happened in the last few chapters. I adored the MC‘s and their friends but I wish we got to spend more time with them instead of just the end. A few 🔥 scenes! and I want more of these characters! I wanted bit more of EVERYTHING from this book I guess😕If only there was a book 2!

Buddy read with @sprainedbrain and @Chrissyreadit This was outside of my genre comfort zone, but there were lots of pleasant surprises. As previously noted in other reviews although it had lots of myths and legends there were lots of metaphors about racism etc. I feel like it was a compulsive read. And while there were some storylines not resolved I couldn‘t put it down and have already put another book by this author on hold. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/5

It‘s rare for me to watch TV, but I watched love is blind on Netflix and immediately fell in love with Lauren/Cameron. I followed their journey on the entire show. This was hands down one of my fave books of the year. I didn‘t know much about it going in, and it‘s not my typical read yet I adore these characters so much! and I was rooting for the them all the way thru the book. The story was charming and so much fun! Slows down a bit in the middle (fair warning) but makes up for it. I‘m still not over the impact this ‘seemingly light‘ quirky little book and it‘s characters left on my heart!

When I tell you, the setting of this book in Ghana was giving me LIFE!! The setting + the amazing female MC made this book special. The MC was fun and strong and so relatable. Me and Reese usually do not have the same taste in books but this one was a gem. ☺️

I‘ve been a fan of Priyanka‘s since Andaaz (around 2003) many years before she became famous in America with Quantico. I liked hearing her antics growing up, the backstory of film/TV projects etc. I just feel like she held back and didn‘t reveal much in general. She didn‘t address the rumors about her relationship with (married) Akshay Kumar and no backstory on Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (my fave movie of hers) maybe because he was in it. 😕
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/5

HOTPock3tt I get that India is a conservative country in general, and she was probably afraid to address anything controversial. And it‘s her choice what she talks about... but I felt like she held back so much that it made the story a bit bland 😶 still good... but lacked the punch. (edited) 10mo

HOTPock3tt I‘ll probably go with “The Ghost Bride” as long as @sprainedbrain and @Bits haven‘t read it yet...🤔 10mo
sprainedbrain I haven‘t read The Ghost Bride, and it sounds good! The only one I have read is Alias Grace. 😉 10mo

This was really hard for me to get into, partly because I‘m not really feeling YA that much at the moment... This seems to be the younger spectrum of the genre lol 😶I did love the MC Hazel and almost all of the characters! Storyline was a bit predictable with a too neat ending. I was kind of waiting for it to end 😅 I‘m obsessed with the fae, but I preferred the faeries in her “Cruel Prince” series. Definitely a ‘borrow don‘t buy‘.

cozypunk *error* Black's YA books, yet. Does she do romance in her YA stories? 10mo

Although I didn‘t enjoy this as much as “The Fifth Season trilogy” or “the city we became” it was still a solid pick. The storyline was quite intriguing, but slowed down towards the end. The huge battle and court politics I expected never really happened (maybe in subsequent books) but I liked the world building. Will continue with the series. #AuthorAMonth

Booknerd_76 I felt the same way. I love N.K.Jemisin. But didn't like this trilogy as much as the Broken Earth. Have you read the Dreamblood series yet? I have it but haven't read it. 10mo
HOTPock3tt I love her too. Broken earth has become one of my fave series!! ❤️... I read the city we became and loved it, but I haven‘t read dreamblood either. It‘s probably next up on my list ☺️ @Booknerd_76 10mo
HOTPock3tt @booknerd_76 did you read how long until black future month? I downloaded it but was a little hesitant since it‘s short stories...🤔 10mo
Booknerd_76 @HOTPock3tt I haven't. I've considered it but I've been hesitant too. I did read Emergency Skin in the book of short stories called forward. It too is different than most of her other books but it was good to me too. She's one of my favorite authors right now 10mo

Buddy read with #BookSister Jenni @sprainedbrain
If only I could convey what a unique EXPERIENCE this was! ❤️it‘s character driven with some of the most fun, intriguing and entertaining characters I‘ve read for a long time. Such an engrossing storyline, it was about more than the blurb tells you: not just about New York. Lots of hilarious scenes! With socially relevant themes too. Bring on book 2! 🙌🏽#AuthorAMonth

DHill Loved this one! 10mo
HOTPock3tt @DHill It‘ll probably end up on my favorites list this year! Of course along with “The Fifth Season”! ❤️😉 (edited) 10mo

This book just wasn‘t for me. It was a slog fest of heaped on overdone misery with no reprieve. I‘m shocked by the comparison to the AMAZING “Anxious People” By Fredrik Backman. The storyline of this book felt like a rip off of a classic movie (I‘ll name it in the comments) And the characters were all one dimensional. All of THAT for one or two good lines at end. It didn‘t feel worth it 😓

HOTPock3tt This was an indirect buddy read with @Wife otherwise I probably wouldn‘t have bothered to finish it. I tried another book by this author a few years ago “how to stop time” and didn‘t like it. Maybe his work just isn‘t for me. (edited) 11mo
HOTPock3tt The storyline felt like a rip off of “It‘s a wonderful life” 11mo

HOTPock3tt Same 😐 if I wasn‘t reading it with my friend I would‘ve just dropped it. I still sent it back to audible ASAP! 😂 @AmyG (edited) 11mo
britt_brooke I got my Audible credit back, too! 😂🙅🏼‍♀️ 11mo
HOTPock3tt @britt_brooke 🤣🤣🤣 LOL! there is no WAY that book is worth losing a credit over! 🙅🏽‍♀️😂 11mo
Wife I can‘t believe you finished that quickly! I‘m wondering if I should just bail and switch to 11mo
HOTPock3tt @Wife I was cleaning all day yesterday and doing laundry lol. I always have an audiobook on when I do. Although it was hard to continue this one. I think it depends on how you feel. If you like it so far that‘s a different story. I could tell from the beginning that I didn‘t like it 🤣 (edited) 11mo
Howard_L Yes....I‘m bailing! 11mo
Joanne1 Definitely a disappointment for me. I truly don‘t understand all the hype about this one. 10mo

This was just fantastic. Right from the start I related to so much the author was saying. The way this author describes things about life I‘ve only just FELT and could never put into words. It‘s about so much more than the blurb tells you. I fell in love with these characters and their situations. It was so memorable for me. I laughed out loud SO many times and shed many a tear. Thanks @suvata for the wonderful recommendation! ❤️

Omg this was ridiculously HOT!!! 😱🔥 🔥 🔥 I was expecting ‘porn with a plot‘ but the storyline actually held my interest. And the hot scenes were blazing hot. Not sure if it‘s the rock star thing or what but this was a complete fantasy in every way! 😍 Just good smutty fun! With a bit of romance on the side. So much fun I would definitely listen again 😆

Book 3: That ending!!!! 😍 I do believe this series has become one of my all time faves. N.K Jemisin is a master storyteller. Such a richly creative world and mysterious characters. The storyline and themes go much deeper than I anticipated. Such an amazing and powerful series from start to finish.

I was FLOORED by this!! 😱 Completely knocked off guard by how stunningly creative and powerful this story was. The world building was just stellar. I was so drawn in by this world despite how complex it is. Lots of twists and turns in the story too especially at the end. And the characters were so mysterious! Surprises at every turn! Can‘t wait to see what‘s in store for the rest of the series! #AuthorAMonth2021

Yearly wrap up ❤️ 79 books read (I didn‘t have a goal set) total library savings: $1,181. Total money spent:$359 😅 a shocking 91% audiobooks overall (my fave format is ebook. Craziness working on the front lines may have affected this 🤔) 64% adult 35% YA. Nice to see I saved so much money on books! 😃 Here‘s to an even BETTER 2021! 🎊

JamieArc As a data dork, I love this 😍 11mo
HOTPock3tt @JamieArc Oh I ADORE this kind of thing too! ❤️🤗 Keeping track all year was fun! Also I like to know how much money I‘m saving vs. spending on books! 11mo
Ruthiella Love seeing how much you saved by using your library! Back when I could check books out in person 😢, my library would show this amount on the check out receipt. 11mo

JamieArc I have been wanting to track how much I save/spend on books - I think I will do that in 2021. I would be scared to see those numbers for 2020. I really took “support your local bookstores” to heart and went all out! 😂 11mo
BarbaraBB So cool! Is this a website? Or are you an excel whizzkid?! 11mo
readordierachel Yay for stats 🎉 You saved a lot! 11mo
HOTPock3tt @Ruthiella Wow that is pretty cool! ❤️😃I wish my little small town library was that advanced! 🤗🤣 @JamieArc lol! 😂 that was me last year! But I spent a lot this year too because I bought lots of audiobooks. I was too impatient to wait on an audible credit lol! (edited) 11mo
HOTPock3tt @BarbaraBB I wish I was! I am the COMPLETE opposite of that! 😂I‘m terrible with anything computer related. I‘m disappointed. I waited forever for this book. Unfortunately it‘s a debut novel and that‘s very obvious. The pacing was very slow and the storyline never quite lived up to the potential. The descriptions were cringeworthy. We never found out how the MC got so flawed. Plus there was one really hot scene at the beginning, yet very rushed and very badly described romantic scenes later. The ending was really abrupt and nothing was resolved. ⭐️ ⭐️/5

Ruthiella I agree with all your criticisms but despite all that, the book really intrigued me. I wanted to put it down but found I couldn‘t! 😀 12mo
HOTPock3tt I feel like I don‘t even want them to be criticisms 😪 because I waited so long for this book and really wanted to love it. I did want to finish it though, so that‘s a mark in its favor. I‘ll try her again and hopefully her next one is better 😥 @Ruthiella 12mo

Well! I liked this so much more than I expected. I‘m not a movie buff and realized rather late that I have not seen even ONE of this actors‘ movies. Still I was intrigued. The writing gets a bit ‘self help‘ at times which is not a genre I read but he did say a lot of things I needed to hear. Especially this year. It ended up being motivational in a good way and quite an interesting listen! 🙃
