My local B&N moved. I took advantage of their deeply discounted mining sale a few weeks ago and this week they owned in their new location in Union, NJ. It's closer to my apartment so that's good but I was prepared to hate it. I don't take too easily to change. However, it's light & bright and it was full of people. Any guessed on how many times I drive to the old location first?! 😁

That's my guy checking out the cookbooks.

Kayla.Adriena I've heard that B&N stores are supposed to be getting makeovers due to change in ownership/management. Glad you like it! Ours is atrocious 2w

Hey friends! I'm alive! Traveling for work this week (hello Louisville, KY) and I made my way over to a local bookshop. An entire table celebrating Women's History Month! I got a little reading in and drove around quite a bit, with no touristy things done yet, and I leave early Saturday. Oh well... there's always next time.

I loved this style of signage seen throughout the store.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @bthegood Thanks for the rec! I love baseball but this trip is so jam packed I won't get over there. I'll be in town (hopefully) a couple more times this year for work and plan to bring my guy out for a long weekend to do the touristy things. I am hoping that I can make it over to the OVW office today to touch base with an account set up by my predecessor while simultaneously trying not to fangirl about their wrestling history. 😁 2w

March's list is hot off the press! I picked up four impulse bonus borrows just before they disappeared so naturally I'll probably read those first.

I have a week in Louisville next week for work, so I can either kill it or shit the bed - both figuratively, of course. This will also count as my reading plan for the month-long readathon.

Very busy work week in Western Massachusetts but I did find a little time to visit a few bookstores.

Top stack from Odyssey Books in South Hadley. Right by Mount Holyoke, they sell merch for the college & highlight books from school professors & alumni. A good selection of popular books & a bookcase dedicated to translated works.

Bottom stack from Book Moon in Easthampton. Small store, large variety, with a special section for Small Beer ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Press books, such as the bottom two. Located in a cute downtown area with hip little stores. This was my favorite.

I also visited Booklink Booksellers at Thornes Marketplace in Northampton. This had the most popular selection, some sale books, and I finally bought a physical copy of The Prisoner of Heaven by CRZ because I have it on audio CD & borrowed an ebook from the library. It's time I owned a copy.

@andrew65 Lofty goals for #FabulousFebruary but I'm hoping that my nights involve more reading & less working and that I do more audiobook listening & less singing on my drive to MA & back.

Finish Parable of the Sower 50% 🎧
Finish Tell Me Lies 75% 📖
Catch up The Hurricane 📖
Catch up Dearest Josephine 📖
Read Can You Sign My Tentacle 📖
Read another audiobook 🎧

My local Barnes & Noble is having a moving sale. Luckily, the Springfield store is moving closer to me into Union, NJ but will be a bit smaller and without the cafe.

To clear the shelves, they're having a moving sale. 40% off nearly everything and then my 10% member discount from that subtotal. This week's spoils are pictured.

I had to pick up a copy of the tagged since I personally know the author & can now hound her for an autograph.

Ruthiella Nice haul! 👍 2mo

Because the tagged book was mentioned in a Facebook book group and of course I had to see if it was legit or a joke. It's not a joke and now I might need to borrow one of these this week just to see how things line up.

I'm far behind so here's a mega-post for the second half of the year.
July was the toughest month to choose because a couple other books were good. The Traveling Cat Chronicles made be ugly cry.
A Bear Called Paddington might be the best book I read this year.
Madam wins December only because I felt underwhelmed by all of the ones I read.

Well my efforts to #JumpStart2023 aren't going so well. My first audiobook is a bust.

Since I didn't get to read the India Overview in November for #foodandlit I thought I'd read it this month along with this, since it has been on my shelves since I won it in a giveaway 10 years ago. I'm at 38% and I just don't care about these people, I'm not eager to keep listening, and the narrator's voice makes this seem like a stodgy non-fiction. BAIL.

February's top book was Most Eligible Billionaire. This is a slight cheat, as I started in February but finished in March. I just didn't love the others I read. A cute white dog inherits a role with a large company after it's owner dies and the dogsitter winds up the human proxy. Cute and funny, I would recommend this as a light, fluffy option to the #52Books 2023 challenge prompt about including an inheritance.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @suvata Aaw! I know what you mean. We got him young and he shivered outside. He quickly got used to jackets or a hoodie and is fine with it in short doses. However, we must earn it with a chase and accept that we will always be greeted with a look that says "not this shit again?". 5mo
suvata @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Regardless, he is quite handsome. 5mo

Krik? Krak! | Edwidge Danticat

Pickpick

(Pronounced like Creek? Crock!)

I would be remiss if I let #Haiti month go by without reading Edwidge Danticat. This collection of short stories gave me a good idea of the struggles & values of Haitians, both in their home country and when they immigrate to the US. These are not light topics but Danticat shows the importance of family as a common, hopeful thread in our protagonists' actions.

I am ready for tomorrow's discussion of the first ten chapters of The Nature of Witches for #sundaybuddyread .

The #192025 Challenge is a good reason to join in on some of the #childrensclassicread2022 and 2023 books. King Arthur has been sitting on my shelf for a couple years now, so I have no good reason to put it off any longer.

@TheBookHippie Do you have a schedule/ discussion or do we just enjoy reading in solidarity? 😁

TheBookHippie We enjoy it in solidarity! Some post interesting finds and tie ins or movies and then a review at the end. It‘s a very zen challenge. It‘s been a lot of fun! 6mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheBookHippie That works for me! I'll dip in and out based on the book availability. 6mo
batsy I'm looking forward to King Arthur, too! I just started. 6mo

TheBookHippie Just checking in hoping you are alright!! 💜 💜 💜 5mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheBookHippie Hey, I'm good. I had to go to San Antonio last week for work. Our hotel there is struggling so the week of the 10th was full of prep work & once in town, my days were packed and I hardly had any downtime to breathe. I did carve out about a little time between visits to get to two local book stores. I'm hoping to read week 3 today and then be available for final discussions. Fri-Mon AM Roger was in hospital as a precaution but is OK. 5mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick ♥️♥️♥️♥️ sending light and calm your way!! Glad Roger is ok. It‘s all stress… hope you can get some zen pieces of time here and there! 5mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheBookHippie Thanks! 💜 And I just remembered that I turned off app notifications when he was in the hospital so I could leave my ringer on should I need to be called overnight. 🤦‍♀️Oops. 5mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I‘ve done that too! I just wanted to make sure you were alright. We miss ya and you‘re input to our discussions! 5mo

I didn't finish as many books as I wanted in September, but a strong effort was made. I read my Book Spin & Double Spin books in the month they were drawn, plus one from August. Not to shabby if I say so myself. 😁

Here's my list for October. I had a couple books that I kept passing over for challenge prompts so I swapped them out for a few new ones. Three are already in progress so I'm hoping this is a strong month.

Since my reading buddy has gotten cozy on my lap I will start on this book. Dog law says I can't disturb him when he's sleeping on me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ His light snoring is providing an interesting soundtrack.

Happy Saturday friends!

Thanks for the tag, @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm

1. All of the islands! I follow an obscene amount of travel accounts on Instagram and want to go everywhere: Santorini, Capri, Maldives, Mallorca, Ireland, Samoa, etc...
2. CRZ's Cemetery of Forgotten Books series would be sure to please upon reread; some sexy romances ; beach reads; and do I say the Kama Sutra to be a little cheeky!? 🤣
