Impulsively joined the #scarathlon last week (let‘s go #skeletoncrew 💀👏📚) and I hope I can keep up. Here‘s a small selection of kindle books I hope to dip in and out of this month to stay on theme. Looking forward to #spooktober feels!

I‘ve always wondered this myself and totally agree with the above 😆 #themoreyouknow
This book is cute! Famous works of art and theatre through history (as well as golden age Hollywood) reinterpreted with CATS. Everyone wins. 😻
This really hits the sweet spot of aesthetically pleasing and functionally efficient. 🤩
Loved this graphic novel that reinterprets Northanger Abbey to modern day small town Texas with queer and bipoc rep.
Was going to take a pic of just the book, but Tilney (who incidentally is named after the male protagonist in OG Northanger) struck a truly awkward half asleep pose that had to be shared with y‘all 😹 #catsoflitsy
Welp, Tilney has ‘graduated‘ from knocking books off shelves to get my attention to straight up scratching them up. So. Cool. Love. It. 🙃 #catlifeproblems
Tilney staking a claim while I‘m trying to read. He‘s already bumped his head against the book ‘accidentally‘ quite a few times. 😹 #catsoflitsy
Informative, somewhat macabre, Gorgeous. Part photography book part history tome. I learned a bit and was in awe of the photographs. Will definitely check out this authors other book about ossuaries.
My parents recently visited and left behind a couple boxes of old school papers/photos. I‘ve been slowly going through them and came across this gem. I don‘t think there is anything more on brand in the collection than this award. 😂📚👏
Gotta love it when an author and publisher both commit to a finished product 🤩😂
A world where wishes are regulated and can be bought by anyone with means (or received as a gift/prize). This is a trilogy of stories concerning such a gift of three wishes and who ends up using them. This was an unexpected gut punch as well as an absolute delight. Kicking myself for not purchasing it this past weekend when making the rounds for indie bookstore day… but once I‘m off my book buying ban I‘ll be adding this to my collection.
(Partial) book haul for #independentbookstoreday - I bought at least one book at every store visited today (tagged but not pictured is a book I ordered from powells awhile ago that happened to arrive today). I definitely went a little wild today and am now on a book buying ban for the foreseeable future.
Independent Bookstore Day!!! Visited 7 book stores (and that‘s not even all of the indies in ATX - we are a great city for book lovers) - bought WAY too many books (no regrets)… just a great day all around!
Thanks @Soubhiville for the great idea and the trip planning 😘
Bookhaul to follow 📚😄 #independentbookstoreday
This manga is so silly and fun - It really grew on me and now I look forward to new volumes from the library 🤩📚💜
Friday night with the kittehs and a graphic novel.

Following up on yesterdays post - my blind dates! @Soubhiville & @BrittanyReads good guess on the fiction - you were spot on! @Ruthiella I too thought the history one would be Bryson, but was pleasantly surprised by the book I got as I was not familiar and it sounds interesting! @Soubhiville I hadn‘t heard of the book you thought for the science one (it‘s now on my tbr) - and the book I got may fit our new club? 😆
Looking forward to these!!!
Just before Valentine‘s Day I treated myself to 3 paperback ‘blind date with a book‘ options from Nowhere Book Shop. I figured that shop would do me right by a blind date pairing. I chose two nonfiction and one fiction. These arrived in the mail today and I‘m very excited to see what they could be. 💜📚💜
🤞 they aren‘t books I already own 😂
Any guesses? 😃
I mean, is it really a secret if that is what the island is called? C‘mon, now. 😆
I think I liked this collection of comics more than the first (Dinosaur Therapy). Glad for the instagram account for a more regular fix 😍 🦕 📚
I‘m finding the beginning of this graphic novel very promisingly tongue in cheek (and informative) 😆
Mostly ok comic about Sarah Winchester and her mystery house…
What I liked: nods to her actual genius and philanthropy (which tend to get lost or glossed over when discussing the lore of the house); the art is fitting for the story
What I disliked (and earned the so-so rating): the pacing is weird and I don‘t know where this story is going - this book collects three issues which doesn‘t feel like enough to ground/set this particular story.
So many gorgeous and stunning photographs in this oversized coffee table book… despite some of my favorite birds being included in the collection and just some wonderful photos of birds in general… I kept coming back to the photo above. I just love it. If you like birds and amazing photography there‘s something in this book for you!
@Soubhiville consider this one of my picks for you for LARS 😄
Happy New Year Everyone!!!
9 books in progress so far (tho 3 are carryovers) - Starting strong for the new year 😆
Am planning to be more mindful about tracking my daily reading instead of just adding/rating the book when finished (we‘ll see how long that lasts)
Have set my reading goals for the year and joined 11 reading challenges - because, why not?!
And because I hate even numbers… one additional fic/nonfic book to add to my faves of the year so I can have 11 of each (which fits for a top 22 of 22 situation - even tho it‘s still an even number total 🙄😬😆)
These were late reads of the year (both read this month) but I enjoyed them so much I needed to include them. 📚💜
My top ten fiction reads for the year. So many good books this year it was really hard to narrow it down! Quite a few of these were read for various book clubs I‘m in - which means we are doing something right in selecting books 😍
Another year of great reads in the books! Here are my top ten nonfiction reads of this year. I wasn‘t able to get my nonfiction/fiction ratio exactly 50/50 like I wanted (it ended up being 47% nonfic which isn‘t too shabby) - but I‘ll work on that next year for sure. 😄
Will also try to read more broadly in topic/type of nonfiction in 2023 (as there tends to be some themes in my current nonfic selections).
If you‘ve got any recs send my way!
Reading goals met! 📚🎉📚 (tho these aren‘t super final lol)
I‘m blown away by how much I exceeded my books goal - will have to thank audiobooks while working for sure (and getting back into comics)😅
I actually lowered my pages goal in October (from 135k) cause I was sure I wasn‘t going to make it - and I was right, but I‘m not so far off. Next year I‘ll go back to 135k and be intentional about reading more chunksters.
#readinggoals #storygraph
This book is just adorable and full of fun facts! Great for all ages and a quick read. 😄
Now I‘m going to have to look into the webcomic (Bird and Moon) it came from.
Aside from the usual #mounttbr goals I set and the #storygraph challenges I joined, these three reading challenges were my main focus this year. I just finished the book riot challenge today and I‘m feeling pretty accomplished 😄
I‘ll definitely do these three challenges again… anyone gave recommendations for other reading challenges to look into for 2023?
#readallthethings
Starting my last book to complete the #bookriot #readharderchallenge for this year. Accompanied by day 3 of a tea advent calendar (and there may or may not be holiday music playing in the background 😉)🥰📚🫖
That‘s a wrap on #nonfictionnovember for me - I liked most of what I read, which is a plus for sure. I‘ll continue to try to primarily read nonfic throughout December, tho, to see if I can get a 50/50 balance of fix-nonfic for the year #fingerscrossedicandoit #thoithinkcomicswillwinmyattention 😅
#thestorygraph added some new stats in - you can now see stats for your owned books exclusively. I don‘t actually have all of my owned books in #storygraph - but I‘m digging the fact that what I do have tracked shows I‘ve read 50% of what I own. It‘s a nice fantasy 😂😆🤣
Planning a nonfiction heavy reading list for #nonfictionnovember so I can get this pie chart back to evenly balanced 😆
📚 Any recommendations? (Bonus points for great nonfiction audiobooks)
It‘s been a long time coming - but it‘s back and I can‘t wait to continue this series! I just got a hard copy of volume 10 today and am just giddy with excitement… tho I may have to reread a few of the previous volumes to refresh my memory since it‘s been such a seemingly never-ending hiatus 😆
I may have my books read goal way early (really surprised by that, but audiobooks ftw I guess 😆), but I‘m really going to have to hustle to meet my pages read goal for the year. I set that goal planning on reading more chunksters this year (and I kinda have) - but the allure of graphic novels is sometimes too strong! #readinggoals #icandoit #ithink
My graphic novels have a new home, the cats have a new hangout, and I‘m wiped out from a day of putting together bookshelves and moving books… so happy tho 😄
#shelfie #catsoflitsy
Step 1: build the shelves
Step 2: earn cat approval
Step 3: fill with books (if cats allow)
I think Elliot will be displeased when she can no longer sit within the shelves… Tilney will be fine and continue to lord over everything 😹
#catsoflitsy
I have today off (yay 4 day weekend!) and I figured the best way to spend the day is to listen to an audiobook (tagged) and put together some new bookshelves. As a book nerd would. 🤓📚💜
After a long and winding journey these books arrive! About a year ago I funded a kickstarter for the tagged book - and added three other volumes to my rewards. I already owned another book in this series… and while I liked the stories I was surprised and disappointed they weren‘t own voices comics. So I‘m happy that at least 3 of these 4 are own voices inclusive. Looking forward to reading these fables and fairy tales from around the world!
Do I have too many books going at once? Probably.
Is that going to stop me from starting more? Nope.
#cantstopwontstop #someonepleasesendhelp 😂
I‘m slightly late to the party (I kept putting off watching cause I was so worried I‘d be disappointed) - but I‘m actually really enjoying this ambitious adaptation. Is it perfect? Not quite. Is it better than I expected? Absolutely. I‘ve got minor quibbles (and 4 episodes to finish off), but I‘m comfortable saying I like this adaptation and kudos to Netflix for pulling it off. 😄
What does everyone else think?
Not even halfway through watching this new Netflix adaptation and my first and foremost thought: what is this nonsense? (And: Will I be able to finish this?!)
Granted I‘m a little precious/protective because this is my favorite Austen novel (and one of my all time fave books) - but this is not a good movie imho.
What does everyone else think???
Noticing a slight autumnal color scheme theme in some of my current reads 😂🤩
Not sure if this is an ongoing trend (and it‘s just new to me) or if this a new trend in manga… regardless, these are two recent impulse grabs from the library based on ‘cuteness and whimsical‘ scale. Here‘s hoping they live up to my expectations. 😄 #libraryhaul #manga
Earlier this week I read the memoir - and last night I had the chance to see the subject live (and first real public outing in a few years)! Good book. Great show. It‘s been a Hannah Gadsby filled week. 😃 love her.
An absolutely delightful romp of a book! 10/10 would read again. 😄
