This was a fun romp of a sci-fi road trip venture with a tacked on love story towards the end. A low pick because it‘s way too long for what it is - but I‘m not super duper mad about it. This book would make a good tv miniseries methinks. 😄

The above quote is basically the underlying mission statement for the photographers featured in this book. It‘s so rare that I get to see a photography collection featuring women - and I loved that all of these photographers are all centered on focusing on nature, activism, and conservation. Most are new to me and I‘ll be seeking out more of their work, for sure.
Reading a manga about a cute little kitten while having some quality snuggle time with my own little kitteh. 😻 #caturdaygoals #caturday #catsoflitsy
Ok, so I‘m finding a lot of this book to be meandering and pretentious AF (and I‘m somewhat feeling like that‘s a little bit of the point, but idk tbh)… but little nuggets like this keep me reading. I feel this description is so very apt.
It could also be that it‘s late and I‘m looking for any kind of resonance in a book that frustrates me. 😂
“Whether the Vienna Boys Choir or monks chanting away on some chart climbing CD, the hallowed always seems to abide in the province of the hollow.”
This took me back - anyone else remember how in the mid 90s the Benedictine Monks had a massive selling album? Wild times 😄
This book seems kind of tedious so far imho and I‘m not sure if I should tough it out or not. If you‘ve read it - is it worth it?
Elliot may not be a cryptid - but she is great company while read about them 🥰 #catsoflitsy
I never really know what to say about art/photography books… especially when I like them. This artist is new to me and I really enjoyed the playful yet thoughtful nature of the still life photographs in this collection. Will definitely see if I can find more. 🙂
Hanging out at a local bookstore and may have over indulged… No Regrets 😆 #bookbuyingbanstartstomorrowforsure
This was a really well researched biography of Vivian Maier (well known as The Photographer Nanny). I loved the inclusion of photographs throughout and learning more about this elusive artist. (I chose this photo to highlight because the girl on the right looks exactly like my niece when she was younger) 😄
What better way to spend a Sunday evening than reading with a kitty curled up next to you? #catsoflitsy
Saw this yesterday and also found out it‘s based on a book… so now I have that on hold from the library. This movie was bonkers but so much fun - hoping the book is even more so. Anyone read it?
Read this book a year or so go and really liked it… now I‘m going to set up myself for heartbreak again by reading the graphic novel. #maybemyfavewillmakeitthistime🤞
Waiting out this cold snap with the kittehs on the couch and catching up on comics/graphic novels that I‘ve accumulated over the last year… this one is real cute. The guy is sad because the protagonist‘s dog is scared of him. 🐶🥺
Tbh I will most likely read all the books recommended to me, but these are the 12 I‘ve absolutely committed to read this year. Thanks for the recommendations! I look forward to an interesting (looking at you out of left field bored gay werewolf) and challenging (looking at you Rilke) year. 😄 #12bookchallenge #12challenge
Thanks again @Soubhiville for encouragement
Impulse purchase at Jan 1 #bookpeople annual sale…Just what am I getting myself into with this mystery puzzle book? Anyone read this? Anyone solved it???
Also #catsoflitsy cameo by dainty miss Elliot 😻
@Soubhiville did this last year and it looked like fun so I‘m joining in this year. I‘ll take 6 recs from here and 6 from other socials. I can‘t guarantee consistency (may read a couple a month, may read one a month and then forget until end of year and scramble lol) but I will read all 12. So let the recs come in! What book have you loved that you think I should read this year - fiction and nonfiction alike - all recs welcome. 😃 #12challenge
TFW your cat is being as adorable (if not moreso) as the cat in the manga you‘re currently reading 😻 #catsoflitsy #cuddlebugTilney
Happy New Year! Here‘s to a great year of reading for us all! 🤩📚🎉💜
#storygraph has released the #storygraphwrapup and included shareable images to boot (I‘m pretty sure this is new as I don‘t remember a graphic like this last year). I was able to read two more graphic novels yesterday so my total went up a teensy bit. Have already set new and higher reading goals for this year, naturally 😆
It was another year of great reading! I managed to meet (and exceed) my reading goals, completed a lot of reading challenges, and just overall had a good time with my books this year. Above are my #top23of23 - all rated 4.5 or higher on my #storygraph 🤩
Here‘s to the new year bringing more excellent books our way!
Eerie and haunting photos of the southern wetlands. Discovered this book via the Texas book festival lineup. I particularly liked when the photographs featured the flora and fauna. I‘ll be checking out more books by the photographer.
#storygraph just keeps getting better! Last week it was overhauled recs (already good to begin with, now even better) - and today I noticed the much talked about barcode scanner feature went live for me. Tested it out, works great! Perfect timing cause I was planning on cataloguing my owned books for stats (and to help ensure I #readmyshelves in 2024) - thanks to this scanner that project will take much less time! #thestorygraph
This was just So Stinkin‘ Cute! What a sweet little manga about two beings finding each other at just the right time and providing joy, love, and comfort to each other. Love this. Would recommend to anyone e wanting some cozy kitty vibes.
Impulse grab from library new shelf. 😆
This is kind of a low pick as I‘m not a huge horror aficionado - and while I‘m vegan the author is not and even mentioned this was a bit of an accidental vegan cookbook. 😄 still, it‘s a nifty idea and the pictures and suggestions for staging are cool. A real fun gift for the horror lover in your life (vegan or not).
The kittehs have managed to make themselves comfy (and steal ALL the blankets) this cozy evening. Nevertheless, I‘m going to make myself as comfortable as I can and dig in to this comics anthology (sorry I couldn‘t find in litsy to tag it). #catsoflitsy
I was just checking my challenges and goals on #storygraph today and noticed that I recently (probably some time last month) surpassed my yearly books goal. I‘ve still got a bit to go on pages (will definitely meet by end of the month) and I didn‘t set an hours goal for audiobooks (tho will do so next year!)
I honestly didn‘t think I‘d meet the goal this year - it is def my highest ever I think… 😆 #readinggoals
Fascinating and engaging snapshot of how toy companies used psychology and media loop holes to basically sell an idea of childhood with long form commercials (i.e. cartoons) with a heavy slant on capitalizing to the boys. Box Brown is really good at making these large (yet still seemingly niche) markets/stories accessible to the casual reader.
Spent the afternoon trying to be a birder with @Soubhiville & @alysonimagines - but the birds weren‘t cooperative 🤣
Doesn‘t matter cause it was still a lovely outing and I got a signed copy of the tagged book to peruse over the next couple of weeks.
A selection of my probable tbr physical books for this months #scarathlon - particularly excited about the Junji Ito and Initiated
#skeletoncrew
Impulsively joined the #scarathlon last week (let‘s go #skeletoncrew 💀👏📚) and I hope I can keep up. Here‘s a small selection of kindle books I hope to dip in and out of this month to stay on theme. Looking forward to #spooktober feels!
I‘ve always wondered this myself and totally agree with the above 😆 #themoreyouknow
This book is cute! Famous works of art and theatre through history (as well as golden age Hollywood) reinterpreted with CATS. Everyone wins. 😻
This really hits the sweet spot of aesthetically pleasing and functionally efficient. 🤩
Loved this graphic novel that reinterprets Northanger Abbey to modern day small town Texas with queer and bipoc rep.
Was going to take a pic of just the book, but Tilney (who incidentally is named after the male protagonist in OG Northanger) struck a truly awkward half asleep pose that had to be shared with y‘all 😹 #catsoflitsy
Welp, Tilney has ‘graduated‘ from knocking books off shelves to get my attention to straight up scratching them up. So. Cool. Love. It. 🙃 #catlifeproblems
Tilney staking a claim while I‘m trying to read. He‘s already bumped his head against the book ‘accidentally‘ quite a few times. 😹 #catsoflitsy
Informative, somewhat macabre, Gorgeous. Part photography book part history tome. I learned a bit and was in awe of the photographs. Will definitely check out this authors other book about ossuaries.
My parents recently visited and left behind a couple boxes of old school papers/photos. I‘ve been slowly going through them and came across this gem. I don‘t think there is anything more on brand in the collection than this award. 😂📚👏
Gotta love it when an author and publisher both commit to a finished product 🤩😂
A world where wishes are regulated and can be bought by anyone with means (or received as a gift/prize). This is a trilogy of stories concerning such a gift of three wishes and who ends up using them. This was an unexpected gut punch as well as an absolute delight. Kicking myself for not purchasing it this past weekend when making the rounds for indie bookstore day… but once I‘m off my book buying ban I‘ll be adding this to my collection.
(Partial) book haul for #independentbookstoreday - I bought at least one book at every store visited today (tagged but not pictured is a book I ordered from powells awhile ago that happened to arrive today). I definitely went a little wild today and am now on a book buying ban for the foreseeable future.
Independent Bookstore Day!!! Visited 7 book stores (and that‘s not even all of the indies in ATX - we are a great city for book lovers) - bought WAY too many books (no regrets)… just a great day all around!
Thanks @Soubhiville for the great idea and the trip planning 😘
Bookhaul to follow 📚😄 #independentbookstoreday
This manga is so silly and fun - It really grew on me and now I look forward to new volumes from the library 🤩📚💜
Friday night with the kittehs and a graphic novel.

Following up on yesterdays post - my blind dates! @Soubhiville & @BrittanyReads good guess on the fiction - you were spot on! @Ruthiella I too thought the history one would be Bryson, but was pleasantly surprised by the book I got as I was not familiar and it sounds interesting! @Soubhiville I hadn‘t heard of the book you thought for the science one (it‘s now on my tbr) - and the book I got may fit our new club? 😆
Looking forward to these!!!
Just before Valentine‘s Day I treated myself to 3 paperback ‘blind date with a book‘ options from Nowhere Book Shop. I figured that shop would do me right by a blind date pairing. I chose two nonfiction and one fiction. These arrived in the mail today and I‘m very excited to see what they could be. 💜📚💜
🤞 they aren‘t books I already own 😂
Any guesses? 😃
