Same, Erin. Same. 👻😄
Really enjoying this collection of short stories so far. I‘m 1/3 through the collection and all have been hits so far. Hopefully there are no (or very few) misses!
Reading about portrayals of women in various forms of media while waiting to chop all my hair off (ok, most, I‘ve never been able to pull off the pixie cut). 💇🏻📚😄
@cassiopia I‘m very sorry for your loss and am sending all the 💗 your way.
The above picture makes me laugh and brings me joy.
A couple weeks ago a few of my friends and I attended a ‘cat con‘ (yep, they exist - and it totally brought me joy)... this chill fellow made us all giggle when we saw him. 😸
This is a decent modern take on the red riding hood mythos with a great dash of social commentary.
I‘m giving this a pick, tho it kinda teeters on that edge of so-so and pick. I think the storytelling/world building could be stronger, but I liked the ideas and definitely liked the concept of women taking back their own and trying to protect each other and their city. I think there is a volume 2 and I‘m going to check it out, for sure.
I‘m on day 3 of my #staycation and day 2 of what I‘m calling Stormageddon Lite. My original plans for this week have been waylaid, but I‘m not too cross. This is ideal reading weather. Also, I can get some #audiochores in without feeling like I‘m missing out on getting out and about. 😂⛈🌧🌩☔️🙂
The subtitle (the hilarious truths about life in a hijab) is apt. Great collection of short comics by a Muslim American woman.
This short little book was a delight from start to finish. A woman impulsively buys a traveling bookselling caravan and comes to love the independence of travel as well as learning to appreciate the magic of books. Also, I‘m surprised this isn‘t a movie (if it is, I‘ve never encountered it) - cause it has the feel of a rom-com at times. 📚😍📚
I‘ve not been the greatest at sticking to my planned #tbr lists each month, and that‘s ok. Here‘s my stack of #mttbr reads for May. I‘ll more than likely change it up as the month goes on, but 2 of these will def be read for book clubs. 😄
🚨 #dealalert 🚨
Yoko Ogoawa is one of my favorite authors - and one of her books is on sale today for kindle (not sure about other formats). Needless to say I think it‘s a good book... so if you‘ve been meaning to check it out, now is a good time. 😁
Sometimes when you preorder things WAY in advance you forget about them... and end up with surprise #bookmail 😂 not complaining at all. Looking forward to more stories in one of my favorite ‘verses. #cantstopthesignal #bigdamnheroes
Minor #catsoflitsy cameo as Tilney must inspect every book I show a slight interest in 😸
Behold my rather restrained #bookhaul from yesterday‘s #atxbookstorecrawl 😄 I visited 12 bookstores and only walked away with 5 books, I‘m quite proud of myself. Master Keaton and The Dead Hand were recommendations by staff at the comic book stores I visited. Ghost bride was the #blinddatewithabook I got from BookPeople. Here‘s Your Hat... was a book used for a photo prompt I ended up buying. Isola just sounded interesting. Fun times ahead!
In honor of #indiebookstoreday a few awesome local book lovers put together the third annual #atxbookstorecrawl and a photo scavenger hunt. 15 local independent bookstores participated - and a friend and I managed to make to 12 of the 15 bookstores before heading to the finale party where bookish prizes were awarded to hunt participants (alas I did not win). Above are a handful of our fun photos from yesterday. Can‘t wait till next year!
Spent all day yesterday on a bookstore crawl doing a photo scavenger hunt for #indiebookstoreday (feel free to check out my Instagram for all the fun)
One of the bookstores had a #blinddatewithabook display - and this one called to me. Will post the book inside the wrapping (as well as the rest of my #bookhaul) later today. In the meantime, any guesses on this mystery book? 😃
I wanted to like this way more than I actually did.
Pros: pretty good story, strong female protagonist, kind of has a slight (slight) Firefly vibe
Cons: underdeveloped characters, atrocious dialogue (everyone talks like they are from the late 90‘s despite being set in the future (in space!), and at one point a villain literally says “easy peasy lemon squeezy”), the art isn‘t my favorite
Overall: Meh. I didn‘t hate it, but no big love either
Saga fans, we‘re officially halfway through this wild (and dare I say emotionally overwhelming at times) ride. I hope the hiatus is over soon!
I told Tilney that if he sprawled over on my leg again (preventing me from getting up for a while) that he was going to become a prop for a Litsy post. And here we are. #notsurprised #catsoflitsy
Happy Tuesday, y‘all 😄
Top four books must be read by end of month for various book clubs.... bottom books I‘d like to read for my own personal #mttbr challenge.
Guess which ones I‘m most likely to tackle today (hint, it‘s not the book club books)? 😆
Also, just noticing the accidental thematic color scheme of the book club books... That‘s pretty nifty!
After attending the inaugural #litsyatxreaderssociety meetup (so awesome to meet fellow #atx littens! So many good book recommendations!) at the Central Library - I had to pillage the new graphic novel shelves. I may have gone slightly overboard. Maybe. #libraryhaul #sorrynotsorry #ididleavesomeforothers
This concludes #audiobaking for this lovely Friday evening. Finished cobbler (I made some last minute additions (my initials) to the lattice - and the final result looks way messier than what went in the oven). Now it‘s time to eat some yumminess and pick up a physical book (I have a couple books that are due back to the library soonish) 😃
Not too shabby, my first attempt at lattice work 😂
Into the oven... #audiobaking
Btw, I‘m loving this audiobook. It‘s very interesting and of course the narration is top notch 😄
More adventures in #audiobaking - this time trying my hand at a fancy cobbler (my first time making any kind of cobbler, if I‘m being honest).
Many thanks to @GondorGirl (and my library for the availability) for the heads up on this fascinating audiobook narrated by my boy Benedict. 😍
#audiobaking is working for me. Although I will say my choice of book is slightly questionable for the venture... 🤣
Trying my hand at Mexican chocolate snickerdoodles - because I can‘t keep spending all my money at the vegan bakery that sells these. My attempts are not quite as pretty, but they are just as tasty imho! Gotta love Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar!
Hi All! It‘s been a while and I‘ve missed you! I‘m going to catch up with all things Litsy in the next couple of days and start posting more regularly again.
In the meantime, for those who don‘t know yet: amazon has a bunch of international books available to download for free on kindle. Enjoy!
#kindle #readtheworld #worldbookday
this was so good - I zipped right through it and I‘m so glad I have volumes 2 & 3 on hand so I can continue somewhat uninterrupted 😄
So, animals start talking and chaos basically ensues. One girl and her companion hound are making their way across the country amidst said chaos.
Some things felt a bit rushed in this introductory volume, but I‘m trusting further reading will shed more light on everything.
Had to special request this book from the library and it ended up taking 9 months before I was able to check it out - but I believe it was worth the wait. A collection of photographs by artist/photographer... mostly on the ravages of time/nature on books but also some collages and other photographs that tie into the theme. Above are a sampling of some of my fave. I‘d recommend checking this one out if you can find it.
Ok, Litsy. You persuaded me that #audiocleaning is a worthwhile endeavor. Audiobooks are usually difficult for me - too easily distracted maybe? Anyhoo, I succumbed. And succeeded. So listening to nonfiction while doing chores is def something I‘ll try again. Thanks for that! #blamelitsy #eventhoughiownthisbookiusedhooplatolisten #hoopla
Anyone want a super adorable but slightly destructive cat? Also perpetually hungry and incredibly vocal about it! 😸😸😸
We‘re in month two of Tilney‘s ‘new‘ favorite way to wake up the human. It‘s fantastic. I almost miss the days of the paw to the face to wake me up to feed him. 🤣 #catsoflitsy
I enjoyed this reimagining of an old Hanna Barbera character. Despite the somewhat heavy handed delivery of the message and fudging around with historical accuracy, this comic is still a pretty solid pick for me.
February was particularly trying at work (and I‘m just now getting over a nasty cold) - so I‘m belatedly starting off March with some fun treats. I broke my book buying ban temporarily to get this lovely illustrated edition of Frankenstein... and I couldn‘t pass up vegan beignets and cocoa! 😋😍
After many conversations with USPS (and a teensy bit of drama) I finally got my #cupidgoespostal box 😄
Erin! I love it! Thank you so much for all the things. You definitely have my number and did an amazing job putting together this box. Much 💜 to you!
This weekend was jam packed with housecleaning, taxes, and volunteering. These are my well deserved (imho) evening plans. 😁
Another morning, another scene of senseless devastation. #thankstilney 😸🙄
A follow up to yesterday‘s post... this is the book I chose from my library‘s #blinddatewithabook display. I think I chose pretty wisely (this book has been on my radar for a while) 😍
Daria! Thank you for the fabulous and thoughtful #galentinesday gift! Galentine‘s has become something close to my heart (I was out late on a Galentine‘s date with some friends last night) and try to do something each year to celebrate (whether that‘s in a big or small way). Much love to you, friend!
