This book might be my favorite read this year! It is definitely my favorite book of Pirates. I was unsure what to expect going into Kaufman's first solo YA. I love her collaborations with Kristoff but am always hit or miss with the Spooner ones. This book of pirates, elemental magic, gods, and quests gets rid of all my doubts. World building was amazing, great characters and the authors own knowledge of sailing added so much to this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Meshell1313 Sounds right up my alley! Added! ✅ 1d

I just had to pause for a moment to say how much I am loving this strange book! In a city like Gotham, every time you fall asleep, you risk becoming a nightmare. Ness fears for herself after watching her sister turn into a giant man eating spider. Full of zombies, vampires, monsters, giant cockroaches, and even pterodactyls, this world is intense!

I wanted to love this more than I did. I think the biggest problems with this book revolve around the characters. Violet is completely unlikeable and the romance with her and Cyrus seems like it was an extra addition that wasn't completely fleshed out. The use of fairy tales was clever and I am curious to see where it goes so not a complete disappointment. #pop23 #readyourtbr #readyourshelves

So good and addictive! I loved everything about this trilogy. The prison setting is amazing. All of the characters are unique, and I couldn't help but love them and wish they were my friends. The relationship between Kiva and Jaren had me as invested as anything that Maas writes. I can understand why these authors are friends. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next! #highlyrecommend #serieslove2023 #readyourtbr

This was an interesting one that I'm stuck between a pick and a so-so. I thought the idea of a murder mystery in a fantasy world was great, but I wish it had spent more time with the murder and world creation and less with the character relationships. I'm interested enough to see where the next one goes and what this author comes up with in the future.

Ever since deciding to try and read only off my own shelves I've read a lot of Poirot and Marple and I was surprised to find that I enjoy Miss Marple more. I'm not normally one for short story collections but I enjoyed all of these. I liked the little hidden nods to the originals and they were all well executed without straying far from Christie's methods. The standouts were McManus and Bardugo for me.

This book has been eye-opening for me. I was unaware of the poor situation and working conditions for immigrant workers in Singapore. How these maids are treated as property and scapegoats. Just when I thought nothing could surprise me anymore....While the book is a work of fiction the authors note tells how she is from Singapore and how she herself didn't know the narrative of the women who come and what they put up with.

I don't know how she does it. Keeps me concerned and following these characters over thousands of pages. This has been my favourite book since Crown of Midnight. I loved Chaol and Yrene and the addition of Sardaq and the Ruks. I had to put it down a couple times due to the stress of what she was going to do to my characters. Only one book to go.

This was funny and clever. The audio is definitely the way to go. I do have to say that I loved the first part in the school. The author lost me a little in the second part with the students back in the real world because the murders were rather complicated and convoluted. I would be interested to read more in the school setting.

I really liked this. The world that the author created is beautiful and mystical. I can't decide if this is adult fantasy. It did feel rather YA, but either way, I loved the battles with the mythical creatures. It felt a bit like her own labors of Hercules. I could have done with less focus on the love triangle, but overall, it was a great read and I look forward to more in this world.

I may have waited too long after the hype to read this book. I was underwhelmed? I'm not sure if this one got so much attention as it was an African based YA, but having read others in the genre now (Blood Scion for example), I didn't enjoy this one as much. I found it overly long and slow. Also, I didn't really enjoy the brother/sister romances with the other set of brother/sister, it felt lazy and unnecessary. Gorgeous covers, though.

Read4life I felt the same way when I read this. It was such an #unpopularopinion but it just didn‘t do it for me. 3mo

I really don't know about this one. I loved The Lonely Hearts Hotel, but this I struggled with. I'm sure it would make a good book club selection as it covers tons of women's rights and ideas to discuss, but I didn't find any of the characters likable. Because of that, I really didn't care what happened to them. This is one that I think alot of people can go either way with.

This book perfectly shows the importance of hearing both sides of a story. The book is about a father and son taken by pirates off the coast of Somalia. Not only do you get the perspective of the hostage but of the hostage taker and other people who are affected by the actions. This is a book of survival, one that shows that there aren't really villains, just victims doing their best to protect their families.
