No particular reason why but I really didn‘t think I‘d like this book and put off starting it for this month‘s #AuthorAMonth. I am entranced. I don‘t know if it‘s the writing, the narration, both?

@Soubhiville

KathyWheeler I liked the movie as well. 1d

I almost didn‘t continue with this one. It took about 10 chapters and then…wow. I love this book in ways I don‘t even understand.

1. Tagged book and Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy

2. I don‘t mind music in the background. I can pretty much read with anything going on around me.

It‘s going to take me a while to unpack this. Or even try. For what this novel says in words there is so much more going on under and around.

I had a hard time with the audio but once I let go of that and just listened to the story I was hooked.

Reviewed as a cross between The Girl With All the Gifts and The Road how could I not like this post-apocalyptic trilogy? But 37 hours? And that‘s just book one!

Diving in…

TheNeverendingTBR This book and the second book are absolutely brilliant, I couldn't get into the third book though unfortunately. 3w

Have you ever read a book that takes such hold of you that you‘re afraid of reading anything else by that author for fear of breaking the spell?

But I just couldn‘t resist giving this a try.

LoverOfLearning Hope you enjoy it! I really get annoyed by tabloid culture and celebrity rumors in real life, so this book was a struggle for me. It drove me mad. Just not my vibe. HA.

But I hope you love it! Let me know!

Oh no they didn‘t. Never fails - a Libby dump all at once. I guess I better get to it!

Prairiegirl_reading Doesn‘t that always happen!!?? Never fails. I like it that I can delay the hold if I choose to on Libby though. It also never fails that as soon as I find something else to borrow the holds will start rolling in. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

DHill @Cortg I used to be able to but now it seems if people are waiting the only option is to return early. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I don‘t think you can “deliver later” if you‘ve already checked it out. I deliver later all. the. time 😆 (edited) 2mo
Cortg @DHill @Clare-Dragonfly Yes, you can only “deliver later” before you check it out. I do this frequently and love that the option was added to Libby! 2mo

Oh my gosh I liked this one SO MUCH. It was fun. Dialogue is real and believable. Twists and turns? ✔️

Maybe not the best book ever and maybe not even one of Lehane‘s best, but an engaging story that will keep you turning the page.

I love Dennis Lehane‘s storytelling but I‘m not a fan of Julia Whelan as a narrator. I‘m hoping the story helps me overcome that.

This one hit me just right. Funny, sad, heartbreaking, hopeful. I loved every word but the story line was often hard for me to follow on audio, which didn‘t matter because, the words. Narration was a perfect reflection of the tone of the story.
