If I had to pick one word to describe this book it would be: haunting. I started Hold Still back in 2018, made it halfway, and returned it to the library when I ran out of time. I‘ve thought about it ever since and finally finished it today. I love Mann‘s photography and my dad was a Southern artist, so I couldn‘t help but think of him throughout. My strong ties to VA had me feeling nostalgic reading her reflections. So many feels about this one!

Weekend plans! I‘m making very good progress on the Trekkie pattern for my sister in law. My latest #audiostitching listen is All Creatures Great and Small. Trying to finish Hold Still finally- recently picked it up again after putting it down in 2018 🤦🏻‍♀️. Something about it makes it hard for me to read even though I‘m loving it. I think it‘s the nostalgia I have for my time living in Virginia in my 20s

Not my favorite Bechdel, but still contained plenty of her beautiful, signature interconnectedness that always leaves me entranced. Felt a little more scattered, less focused, and more rushed than her previous memoirs. Perhaps that was all intentional and part of her meditation on being human and falling in love with that fact after many, many struggles against it

Yesterday, I discovered my #Goodreads account got hacked. I think the hacker/bot just liked a bunch of stranger‘s updates & posted a malicious link to my profile. I deleted what I found & changed my password. Apparently this is becoming really common- some people think hackers are trying to find a back door into people‘s Amazon accounts/credit cards since you can link Goodreads & Amazon. So heads up to keep a close eye on your account!

Listened to this Jeeves and Wooster while making good progress on my cross stitch. This was my second Jeeves and I definitely liked it better than the first in the series, which I read a few years ago. I think a lot of it had to do with hearing all the British dry wit instead of simply reading it. Recommend for a light, funny listen! #audiostitching

I had to say good bye to my sweet, goofy cat, Quince, today. sarahbellum @Annie1215 awesome, how do you all do the selection? 4mo
Annie1215 @sarahbellum I have a list where members email me any books they want added to our “to read” list. Then I send a survey out at the end of the month with 5 books from the list for everyone to vote on. People can decide if they will join in that month or not depending on what wins. It‘s very low key. We all read at our own pace and I post once a week for discussion. You can email amnmascioli@gmail.com if you‘re interested! 4mo

Anyone else into the NYT #crossword? I‘ve always loved word puzzles and one of my “pandemic hobbies” has been doing the NYT crossword everyday. I haven‘t missed a puzzle since Dec 2020! My time and solving ability have definitely improved, but I‘m still pretty slow compared to most crossword enthusiasts 🤓. I also love doing the daily Spelling Bee 🐝

Ruthiella I love crossword puzzles. Especially the Sunday ones, because they are so big and usually challenging in a fun way. 4mo
Nerdfins I love crosswords! I do prefer the easier ones, because sometimes I want a slight challenge but not enough to be frustrating. 4mo
sarahbellum @Ruthiella @Nerdfins I‘m pretty sure my solving success has more to do with my stubbornness than my intelligence 😂. The more frustrated I get, the more I want to solve the damn thing hahaha 4mo

For a book that is so focused on the details, I can‘t believe that Will didn‘t figure out the connection between the sisters before meeting their mom. At some point after meeting and dating, Jules clearly took him back to her place (where he then wound up living)- it was the same exact flat where he had his trysts with Olivia just days before 🤦🏻‍♀️

And this brings me up to date! I‘m very happy that I‘ve already surpassed the total number of books I read last year. So far, I‘ve loved Born a Crime, A Tale for the Time Being, and Where‘d You Go, Bernadette?. I feel like I‘m finally back in a good reading groove and am glad to be kicking around Litsy again! Also very happy I can borrow print books from the library again instead of just relying on ebooks.

BkClubCare Born a Crime is absolutely fantastic on audio. 4mo
BkClubCare Hello again, I was unable to reply for some reason to the post where you asked what is Camp TOB so I came here to find out the books you like. TOB stands for Tournament of Books. Google “The Morning News Tournament Of Books” and you‘ll find years of good stuff! It is a tournament, usually in March as a book competition like March Madness is for basketball. (Read The history page when you find it - assuming you are still interested.) 4mo
BkClubCare For the last few years, the TOB team has hosted a Summer Camp pitting 6 books for an ultimate winner. A few of us on Litsy follow along, thus the #CampTOB hashtag. PS. The winner of March's TOB was Charles Yu‘s (edited) 4mo
sarahbellum @BkClubCare Awesome, thank you for the explanation! 4mo
BkClubCare @sarahbellum - 😁 PSS - books are published in current year for summer, prior year for the March... It is huge and one of my favoritest things ever. 4mo

2020 was another light reading year. There were long stretches where I just didn‘t have the mental and emotional bandwidth to follow a story- daily life during a pandemic was incredibly draining (as you all know). I focused on humorous and light titles (I was especially delighted by Calypso, the Agatha Raisin series, Anne of Green Gables, and Bridget Jones‘s Diary). I also started listening to recorded performances of plays- highly recommend!

I was super bummed that I didn‘t read more in 2019 (life ramped up and left me with little downtime). There, There was a top read- I was living in Oakland, CA at the time and it felt very real and grounded to me. I also finally got around to reading the Hunger Games trilogy (I know, I know, I‘m typically behind the times with these kinds of things) and was definitely entertained by the storyline.

Curiouser_and_curiouser I've just finished The Hunger Games for the first time only a month or so ago. I still have the next 2 to catch up on. You're not behind at all. Cool read huh?! At least you can cross them off your TBR list now! 4mo
