I love short stories! Some of the stories can be cryptic, but I enjoy a well written challenge.
“Full Service Shelter” is a must read for anyone who has worked in rescue or loves pit-bull type dogs. 💔🐾
In “Greed” a young wife spies on her husband being seduced by an older woman, a neighbour. 🍏🍏🍏

5. ? Hi!
Wow this was a wild ride! It started out as a “So-So” and ended as a PICK 👍 hadn‘t read a single review, so was completely taken off guard by the thrilling ending.
Is there a genre for contemporary horror? .. because this is it! I didn‘t “love” any character but thought the writing was great. POV chapters told by the cop, her daughter, the hipster journalist, a homeless man and the killer weave a gripping story I really enjoyed!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Some of my fave #irishauthors are women, but I couldn‘t leave out Sebastian Barry 🍀💚
The Little Red Chairs is set in a small Irish village where our main character falls in love with the mysterious new man in town. She is married but rushes full tilt into a sexual relationship with the man. When she discovers he is a wanted war criminal the town and her husband shame her into moving away to London. And that‘s just the start! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A completely random find at the bookstore this week; I would typically never browse the Spirituality section. Sometimes the book chooses us, not the other way round.
Cancer has changed my family‘s life and this book has been good for my soul. 📖🙏
#friyayintro A day late! 🤓 @howjessreads
1. Love living in an apartment. It‘s within walking distance of a bookstore, movie theatre and pub! [and no snow to shovel]
2. The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flannigan
3. Audio books during the weekday commute and all weekend!
I‘ve read a lot about WWII but knew nothing of the railway through the Burmese jungle built by Australian POWs. The topics are HUGE- love war death obedience honesty loyalty forgiveness. Flannigan made me see all these in a different light. It‘s a brutal but brilliant read. I loved it in audio, the narrators New Zealand accent was very compelling.
2014 #manbookerprize winner 📖🏅
Happy birthday to John Steinbeck born this day in 1902.

Turned off my audiobook The Radium Girls (love it @youneverarrived ) to focus on the drive home tonight. 30cm of snow today and freezing rain later tonight ❄️☔️ Been driving for 40yrs but this was the scariest ever!
In honour of Hannah, the flawed & funny, courageous, cinnamon bun-loving woman in this book! The author creates two lives for Hannah, filled with challenges and life changing decisions. I thought often of @samjmitchell and if indeed there are others lives out there for us to live with alternate outcomes 🙏💜
@youneverarrived @monalyisha I would NEVER have read this without your reco. Loved it!👏

Saw Kasey Musgraves LIVE with @samjmitchell During the encore she said “it was great to meet you all. And to the Chinese guy in the green sweater who told me came out to his parents today- you hang in there. You are LOVED!”
“If you‘re ever gonna find a silver lining
it‘s gotta be a cloudy day
If you wanna fill your bottle up with lightning
you‘re gonna have to stand in the rain”
-Kacey Musgraves, Silver Lining
2nd read 2019, I NEVER would have picked this up if not reco‘d by my bookbuddy @youneverarrived
I am in love with Hannah. I just want to take her by her 29yr old hand and tell her it will be ok. That I know because I felt just like that at her age. When she cries I cry! I can‘t put this down!
Finished in the waiting room of The Ottawa Heart Institute with @samjmitchell ❤️ had to stifle my sniffs 😪 (and chuckles)
Cyril Avery is the child of an unwed teenage mum in 1940‘s Ireland, who discovers at a young age he is homosexual. The book follows his life in 7yr increments from his adoption to the AIDS epidemic, IRA bombings and legalization of same sex marriage. Thank you for the reco @youneverarrived 😃
Being out with friends is really fun but today is a good day to stay home and read ⛄️☕️ -18°C
What do you think?
Shyness vs Introversion “.. introversion is a preference for environments that are not overstimulating. .. shyness is inherently painful, introversion is not.”
Reco‘d by my independent #localbookstore 📖
Bun is a 14yr old forced out of her home by her abusive hoarder mother. Educated on the books and movies piled in their house, Bun doesn‘t really understand people and this gets her into some bizarre situations. She‘s eventually taken in by a group of misfits who are determined to support her and love one another despite their meager circumstances.
Excellent YA, absolutely loved it!
Best of 2018!
-Dog walking & listening to audiobooks!
-having my daughters home for the holidays (🙏 nice-ish & naughty-ish)
1st read if 2019 “The Hearts Invisible Furies” part of #NewYearWhoDis @youneverarrived @monalyisha
Happy New Year of reading in 2019!
Gifted my fave biographical novel to my son-in-law. My daughter does chemo every 2 weeks and he has never missed an appointment in 4 years 🙏 he loves to read and I am grateful for him. This exciting Mt Everest adventure is the perfect winter read!
“This is the problem with having cancer: Everyone expects you to have mysteriously acquired some kind of wisdom out of the experience, and if you haven‘t, then it‘s a personal failing.”
