I started reading this book a couple of weeks ago, when I was on vacation in Barcelona. A historical novel set in that city in the 20's and 30's, it's full of mystery, obsession and a hint of the supernatural. It wasn't as good as Shadow of the Wind but it still captivated me.

Dan Stevens read the tagged audiobook, and he did a great job. He should read all the books in the series if he hasn‘t done it already. #sundayfunday

Posting my August #bookspinbingo list a few hours earlier than usual! I am 50% through the tagged book's 522 pages, so I'm using the second half on this month's board. Hoping to get a few books read for Women in Translation month and Japan.

Just finished this. I have had The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series on my shelves for a while. Wondering why I waited so long to read them. On to The Prisoner of Heaven next.

I finally finished! With that, I‘m calling it for the year. I had to scale back my reading goals and ultimately finished 74 books. This was one of two books in translation that I read this year, which is a little ironic because I actually understand Spanish reasonably well. OTOH, considering they were two of the longest books I read this year, I think I was a little intimidated! Maybe I‘ll read his short stories in the original..

Zafón continues what he started in The Shadow of the Wind: eerie 1920s Barcelona atmosphere, magic realism, intrigue and love, and a passion for books and storytelling. Can't wait for the third book to arrive.

I didn't like this one nearly as much as the other books in the Cemetery of Forgotten Books series. I thought it got very wordy in places, and could have been a much shorter book.

I'm pretty sure I'll be reading this for the remainder of the #NovelNovember Readathon! I've read 35% of it, but it's a longer book, so it will take me a while to finish reading it.

Yes, I know I'm reading The Cemetary of Forgotten Books out of order of when they were written, but there are some that suggest this should be read after The Prisoner of Heaven, as it is referenced at the end of that book.

I may start reading it and realize I should have read it before The Prisoner of Heaven, but we'll see. 😂

This is a great story. The author basically creates all these lovely characters and then kills them off slowly and in unexpected ways. It's possible I am exaggerating. It's good that you don't seem to need to have read the previous book in the series because it's been a long time. And it'll probably be a long time before I adventure into another one.

Thanks to @Soubhiville and the #authoramonth challenge, I have finished my first Carlos Ruiz Zafón book, just in time! He is a fantastic storyteller! This story is for book lovers everywhere! Dan Steven‘s narration was perfect, but I know that I missed information not having it in print. I was moved by certain passages about books, and would have shared. Barcelona came alive for me! Struggling writer,bookshop haven,love triangle,demon,cinematic.

What made this book sing for me was Dan Stevens', as always, brilliant narration. Also, the unrequited love story of Daniel and Cristina. This book was with me for countless kms of walks. ❤

Today's #audiowalk featured cute fairy gardens and ornaments in the trees! Someone was busy spreading bits of joy and happiness in the forest trail.

Still #audiowalking with The Angel's Game! Which is fine because Dan Stevens is amazing to listen to. A beautiful sunshine filled day today. Picture doesn't quite capture it.

What's in my ears while walking. Always love a book narrated by Dan Stevens! Today was such a gorgeous day to get out and walk. Needed to clear out the cooped up feelings!

Wow what I book!!! I picked this up at a second hand book store simply because I read Shadow the of the Wind. I had no idea it would be this good. I love the characters and it‘s a genuine page turner. Best of all it‘s about books and writing. Highly highly recommend

This is the 2nd book of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series and follows after The Shadow of The Wind.

I loved The Shadow of the Wind so much that I need to continue with this series. Loving the audiobook!

Once again the author creates a vivid 1920's Barcelona where the streets although dark come alive. The author is known for his world building and this book doesn't disappoint on that but I really wasn't into the plot or characters in this one. This book is a mix of gothic mystery with paranormal elements which on the whole didnt work for me, the pacing of mysteries are too slow to hold my attention and this is definitely a slow burn.

I love this author so much. The first in this series was better, but this was still awesome!

If we‘ve been Litsy friends for a while, you‘ve seen me rave about The Shadow of the Wind, one of my all-time favorite books. I‘ve owned this prequel for years and finally read it: it‘s not Shadow (what is though?) but it‘s so good.

A beautiful book, perfect for book lovers who enjoy gorgeous writing, gothic vibes, and fantastic storytelling.

I listened to most of it on audio because it‘s read by DAN STEVENS, further enhancing my😍.

Slightly unsatisfactory prequel-sequel to Shadow of the Wind, wherein a hack author is engaged by what I'm assuming is the Devil to create a new religion. Intriguing premise which never really develops and leaves this reader slightly baffled. Hopefully the subsequent installments make more sense.

I read and enjoyed this book in 2010.

Found a copy of my fav book in a thrift bookshop and I'm lookinh forward to re-read it while listening to the audio book.

Another excellent read, albeit not as good as The Shadow of the Wind. Zafon has an excellent way of painting beautiful descriptions and becoming mood.
