Mehso-so

This was a short story, which I wasn‘t aware when I downloaded it from the library. Only about 46 mins reading. Like most short stories it just left me wanting more and ends when you feel you are only just getting into it. Despite being written in 1975 covers current themes of rising of sea-level, deforestation, the collapse of the ecosystem. Presented in a very dystopian way. Only so so because not enough of it.

KathyWheeler @BarkingMadRead The Left Hand of Darkness has an interesting take on gender, especially considering it was published in 1969. 19h

My plan was to read the entire trilogy for #AuthorAMonth but I‘m choosing to stop after the first. This falls somewhere between Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings - I can appreciate the writing (& the heavy handed symbolism) but the style puts me to sleep.

5feet.of.fury I‘m starting this one next, it will be my first from this author. I have a feeling this may not be a good fit for me either. 1d
SamAnne I‘ve had a hard time deciding what to read next by her. I loved Left Hand of Darkness. 1d

This collection of Le Guin‘s blog posts was hit or miss for me. I loved the first part, especially when she discusses aging and I am always here for a cat story. The later entries I was less enthralled by but I appreciated being reminded about how much I enjoy having an essay collection to dip in and out of. A light #authoramonth pick.

First book I‘ve read by this author and first book for #AuthorAMonth for her.

This is a book with five closely related novellas that really captured my attention, really enjoyed these books and what they said about human relationships, the human condition and seeking to overcome slavery and power over others. She definitely had great imagination.

Based on this if I can get hold of others I will be reading more by this author.

@Soubhiville

Soubhiville Great! Glad you liked it. 4d
Crazeedi I've read a couple of hers years ago. Unique style and good 4d

I‘m not really a huge fantasy fan, but I‘m also a list completist so I wanted to read a Le Guin book for #authoramonth.

I found this novella on Scribd. It‘s a coming of age story for Owen, who‘s seventeen and trying to figure out his place in the world.

It did feel a bit dated, and it‘s a very simple, slight tale but I still kind of liked it. A soft pick.

Megabooks I‘m trying her, too, even though it‘s generally not my thing. 👍🏻 19h

Full disclosure: Fantasy is not my thing. I‘m glad that #AuthorAMonth encouraged me to pick this up since it‘s considered a classic and one of those “books that everyone should read.” And I can appreciate the beauty of the writing—really, I can. But honestly? This book kind of bored me. Maybe it‘s because it‘s a middle-grade young-man-coming-of-age story and I‘m a middle-aged woman eying the retirement years? Thank goodness it was short. ✔️

Melismatic I‘m reading now and I totally agree! 2d
Amiable @Melismatic Two genres that I never read/don‘t like (fantasy and YA) combined together should probably have been a clue that this one wasn‘t for me. 😬 1d
