I AM NOT a superhero.
I love this opening line. Something about it feels impactful to me. Planning to start this one this afternoon. #firstlinefridays

I sometimes wonder what the epistolary novel of the 2030s onwards will be like. Just a smattering of cobbled together conversation snippets, written in text shorthand and punctuated by emojis? 🤔
#readermusings
😅 I bet more than a few of us can relate to that sentiment
Today is a day to celebrate mothers, but I'd like to also acknowledge those like me who have lost pregnancies, babies, children. Those who've been pregnant but don't get the coveted title of Mother. Those who are grieving for what could have been. Those of us who are invisible with every baby shower invite, every casual 'when are you gonna have kids?' quip, and every Mother's Day. Well, I see you. Be kind to yourself today. Helpful book list 👇🏽
A little after work R&R. Is it really only Tuesday??
At least I found this fun little book on my kindle, totally forgot I bought it a while back 😅
Spending all my breaks outside today, getting as much sunshine reading in as I can. My cat approves. #catsoflitsy
It finally feels like spring! Sunshine reading time 😎
😌 Happy Sunday! 📚
To the north was Niflheim, colder than cold, hidden by mist and chilly fog.

Been knee-deep in Greek mythology for a minute, so I thought I'd switch it up and check out the graphic novel adaptation on Gaiman's Norse Mythology book.
Getting in a little reading before dinner. I'm all caught up on St. Clair's Hades x Persephone series, so I decided to check out book 1 of her Hades Saga. It's essentially book 1 of Hades x Persephone, but from Hades's POV. Feels like a treat to get a glimpse into the mind of a rather mysterious dude lol
#catsoflitsy
Suffice it to say, I'm going through a Greek Mythology phase at the moment 😂
Just arrived!!
Me reading A Head Full of Ghosts 😅 Some parts are really disturbing!! Definitely getting in my horror fix this week. #catsoflitsy
Persephone walked along the bank of the river Styx.

“THIS MUST BE so difficult for you, Meredith.”

There was a lot going on in this one, but it somehow managed to be very cohesive... and very creepy. I appreciated how realistic the portrayal of anxiety was (TWs for bed bug PTSD, drug abuse, and systemic racism), and would highly recommend it to fans of Home Before Dark and When No One is Watching.

(wow... I'm so behind on my reviews!)
Name that book! 😊
Every time it rains, I tell myself, at least books exist.
They bind our feet and ankles, tear off our clothes and douse us with alcohol. #firstlinefridays
Kind of a dark way to start, but I'm here for it 😅
I can't believe it took me this long to read this book. This was without a doubt the best representation of a final girl I've ever encountered (in movies, books, or academia), and I can't say enough good things about it. Powerful, captivating, and cathartic. ❤️🔥
TWs for abuse, trauma, and violence.

Has anyone else had the experience of posting about a book with "controversial" themes, then suddenly losing a handful of followers? ??♀️
Happy International Women's Day 💖
A great day to celebrate books by and about women (and minority genders). This is a fabulous one about the lost history of the woman who created the iconic creature from the black lagoon. Written by the co-host of one of my favourite bookish podcasts #ReadingGlasses #iwd2022
I've been meaning to check this one out for a while. Chapter 1 did not disappoint. Excited to see where it's going.
My old friend insomnia is back, but who can be mad when it means reading to the sunrise 🌅
Couldn't resist...

First #audiowalk of March. Still incredibly snowy but at least the weather's getting milder (-7 C). Listening to tagged book... it's slow going, but I'm hoping it'll pick up soon 😕
😌 Ah. How good it is to be done working.

This morning I woke up from a nightmare in which I was in grave danger and had to make a quick escape... but went back for my kindle 😅 Anyone else willing to risk their lives for their books? LOL
Starting this one with my coffee.
F*@k William.
Just starting this one and my blood is already boiling 😅
Cozy paranormal mystery with a side of topical humor, anyone?
😌 📚🍿🍷
Slowly working my way through this cozy series... and yes, that's popcorn wine, and I'm here for it.
Tana woke lying in a bathtub. #firstlinefridays
I've bailed on this one in the past, but I'm hoping it was just bad timing, so I'm giving it another go.
Super excited to have finally got my husband to read a graphic novel 😍
This Hades x Persephone retelling had me surprisingly hooked. It wasn't the best writing ever, but I enjoyed the world she built and how she played with Greek mythology and its characters. Really fun. It kind of falls between a So-So and a Pick for me, but I'll definitely check out the next book.
⭐⭐⭐.5

Book 12 of 2022
This satirical retelling of Jane Eyre (+ghosts) was a really fun read. I loved the way the authors broke the 4th wall to comment on differences in today's society and Bronte's time, and I laughed out loud often. But the last quarter felt pretty convoluted and my mind kept drifting away, feeling as though I'd lost my anchor to the story. That aside, I enjoyed the overall experience.

Book 9 of 2022
On the battered paper map that‘s carried the two of them across they‘re not sure how many of the American states now, this is Proofrock, Idaho, and the dark body of water before them is Indian Lake, and it kind of goes forever out into the night.
#firstlinefridays Ouf! That's a mouthful lol
Spending the evening in bed with a book = Living my best life 😌
Omg. Yes. It's witty, fun, and bursting at the seams with nostalgia, while also doing a great job at being it's own thing. I ❤ what they did with Spike, and I ❤❤ that the new slayer is Willow's daughter. Could it have been more diverse? Definitely! Will ppl be divided on the Willow/Oz storyline? Probably. Did I miss Buffy? Not really. It's a new Scooby gang, all connected to the OG show, and I think it works really well. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book on the table is My Heart Is a Chainsaw. Finally, started it today 🪚🖤
I really enjoyed that this was a whodunit style thriller set against the back drop of start up culture. I spent 4 years at a tech company and recently had my heart broken when they sold to a big corporation, so it hit close to home. That aside, this turned out to be a more complex and layered mystery than I was expecting, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time (even once I guessed the killer). Great pace! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Book 7 of 2022
Yeah I did. 😏
Stages of me realizing this exists:
1. 😳
2. 😯
3. 😲
4. ... There goes my weekend.
Sunnydale High. #firstlinefridays
OK, I cheated a little and posted the first sentence of ch 1, instead of the prologue. But c'mon, every Buffy fan can appreciate the impact of starting chapter 1 of this continuation with just, "Sunnydale High." I couldn't resist! ⚰?
Bandit looked as tired as I was by the time I finished this one... but not because I didn't enjoy it, just because I don't usually read such long books. This one was totally worth it though! Beautiful writing, a gripping story, and powerful, intersectional feminist themes. I also loved the way she weaved fairy tales into her magic system 🕯🖤
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Book 6 of 2022
On page 460 of 530! I've been at this one for two weeks. I don't usually pick up books over 400 pages, and while I'm frustrated with how long it's taking me to get through it, I have no regrets. Hoping to finish tonight 🏆
