Nola is such an interesting character. I'm thinking she might be neurodiverse in some way, but it hasn't been addressed (yet). Hopefully, it is! For now, she's kind of like a Wednesday Addams, but in the real world lol Very curious to see what the author does with her.

I'm starting this book today for the THIRD TIME. It really seems like something I'll love, but I just never seem to be in the right mood. We shall see if 3rd time is a charm or a bust 😬
I dig that Baldree wrote it for nanowrimo. I haven't completed that challenge since 2018 (my husband got me this mug to commemorate it ☺️)

So I'm half-heartedly listening to this one, thinking to myself, this is really not what I expected, but The Lighthouse Witches was sooooo good, so I should stick with it. And then it hit me... I've mixed up my C.J.s. I chose this one thinking it was CJ Cooke, when in fact it's Tudor 😅...OK, now I can bail.

Stephen King fans may enjoy this one. It's fine, but TW for disturbing scenes involving children.

TGIF 🎉
This book has a story in a story in ANOTHER story. It features a novel within a movie script within the book itself. I'm betting that would be a bit annoying for some readers, but I'm ok with it so far, maybe because I'm a former film student with novelist aspirations lol

Ah, Jane Eyre in space... how could I resist?! Unfortunately, it was a bit slow for my taste. It's been described as Jane Eyre meets The Martian. I'd say it's a lot Jane Eyre, and just a dash of The Martian. Definitely more like Jane Eyre in pace and tone. It held my interest, but barely. I just didn't really care about the characters, as there wasn't much to work with there. Preferred Brightly Burning.

Happy Friday! The little one surprised me by sleeping in this morning, so I grabbed my kindle and my monitor and settled in with my coffee ?

I would love to be part of a book club that picks monthly themes, rather than a specific book. I think it would be so interesting to chat about a broad theme within the framework of a bunch of books that handle that theme differently. Plus, its a great way to hear about more books! I don't have the social energy to start a book club, but if this exists and u know of it, please let me know 😅

ozma.of.oz What kind of themes? This sounds like a really cool idea? 2mo
ShyBookOwl @ozma.of.oz I'm thinking more specific than a genre, but stuff u can know from the back cover and is broad enough to play out many ways. Like, set in a hidden/secret place, or deals with the loss of a parent, or takes place across 2 timelines or on 2 continents. I'm spit-balling, but that's where my head is at 2mo
Soubhiville I have a bookclub like that. We mostly meet virtually, US central time zone. April we will be in person, but our May topic is “it‘s the end of the world as we know it.” Meeting on May 20th. If you‘re interested email me, magicbelly@gmail, we‘d love to have you attend a meeting and see if you‘d like to join us 🙂. 2mo
See All 21 Comments
ShyBookOwl @ozma.of.oz Some of that is maybe too broad, but I think the idea would be to explore and learn about multiple books with one thing in common, through spoiler-free chats. That way, ppl can find more books in their wheelhouse or even expand their wheelhouse by encountering a theme they wouldn't normally gravitate towards 2mo
ShyBookOwl @Soubhiville That's awesome! I probably couldn't attend anything in person as I'm in Ontario, Canada BUT super interested in virtual meetings! I'll email u 😊 thank you!! 2mo
Amiable That sounds like a great idea for a book club! 2mo
Tamra That does sound like fun!! 2mo
ShyBookOwl @Amiable @Tamra Right?! I have a hard time committing to a certain book at a certain time, especially if someone else picks it lol This is a much more freeing approach 2mo
Tamra @ShyBookOwl totally agreed! I‘ve always wanted a book club where people just show up with books they‘ve read or are reading, a show & tell. Does anyone on Litsy do the theme idea? (edited) 2mo
ShyBookOwl @Tamra Show & Tell is a great way of putting it! Book chat with a common theme to ground the convo 2mo
Tamra @ShyBookOwl 👍🏾 2mo
TEArificbooks I have a book club on Facebook where we get four prompts a month and you read two books that meet those prompts. Through out the month we talk about the prompts and what we are reading. And sometimes we talk about random book related things. This month we talked about school required reading. At the end of the month we list the books we picked are entered into a drawing for a prize. 2mo
marleed I love your monthly theme idea! 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag What a fun idea! The library I work at do something similar - staff talk about a couple of books they‘ve read and then open the floor up to whoever is turned up - often lovely conversations flow! 2mo
ozma.of.oz This sounds like a great idea! I don‘t have the mental bandwidth to run it, but I‘d definitely join in if someone started one! 😅 2mo
