This one was on the pick/so-so line. I went with pick because it was a fun read and I love IKEA, so I was yearning for an IKEA shopping spree. Though I will never look at an IKEA the same way again 😂

For some reason I was expecting zombies but it was a fun ghost story. The MC was like-able and even relatable and the character growth for Amy and Basil was fun to watch.

A new favorite King(s) book. Sleeping Beauties gave me all the feels. Though not “post-apocalyptic” it showed how quickly things can go wrong. The tagged was awesome and we all deserve an Arthur in our life, I‘m in love with a book character 😂. This book was funny, adorable (the kids reminded me of the innocence and joy of my own children when they were younger). I enjoyed this audiobook. The main point: there is nothing wrong with asking for something, or for help. ❤️ It is a simple concept, but I was definitely team “I got this” or “I don‘t need help” I love how the book makes you question where the shame of asking for help came from.

Luster: A Novel | Raven Leilani
post image
Pickpick

I should get two bingos this month😁. #bookspinbingo Luster, first off, excellent book. I am looking forward to more from this author. Usually one-sided open marriage stories, of course usually for the man, (rant done) annoy me. This story actually intrigued me, it was especially powerful when the wife and daughter characters come along. Race, emptiness, aging, midlife crisis, depression and more, the list of topics covered in the book is long.

Reggie I liked this book. I picked up because of the affair intrigue. I felt bad for the wife when she says I try to be an evolved woman. Why doesn‘t he try to be an evolved one woman-man. He was a mess, hooked on drugs. But then I stayed for the relationship between the women. And when the little girl asks her not to ruin this for her because she‘s already been in homes that broke apart- 😭. I look forward to more from her also. Apparently this has 5mo
Reggie stuck with me. Lol. Great review. 5mo

Piranesi! Even though I was thoroughly confused the whole time 😂 I had to rate it a pick. My theories changed every time I picked up the book, making it a very interesting read. Memory Police | Yoko Ogawa
post image
Mehso-so

Memory Police was one of those “I both liked it and loved it books.” I settled on so-so because I finished the book all types of confused. 😜 The story was so good though ❤️ I may change it to a “pick” if someone can help me figure it out 😂 I‘ll put my guesses in a comment since it has spoilers.

NikkiM5 My first guess: Her novel was her actual story and she died in tower. Losing memories was a coping mechanism for her time in the tower. I don‘t know how to explain my 2nd guess but it‘s on the lines of letting go, and finally moving on. 7mo
DGRachel I think her novel was her novel, but it mirrored in fiction what was happening in her reality. At its heart, I think it‘s about identity, losing oneself in other people or societal expectations, and whether or not one can/should fight to retain their individuality. 6mo
NikkiM5 @DGRachel I can definitely see the fight for retaining individuality. Do you think things were actually disappearing? 6mo
See All 7 Comments
DGRachel You know, my initial reaction was yes, because it‘s an alternate world created by the author, but thinking about how body parts “disappeared”, I‘m not so sure. It‘s more like people‘s perception of those things disappeared initially and then all of those items and anything that could trigger memories of those items were destroyed by the islanders or the memory police. 6mo
DGRachel It goes back to losing autonomy in the face of government pressure. The memory police said something no longer existed and so everyone worked together to make it so until all that was left were the people themselves and their identities were absorbed until they lost themselves completely. 6mo
NikkiM5 @DGRachel love these thoughts, thanks for conversing with me. I am going to up the rating to a pick, this book made me think 😂 6mo
DGRachel It‘s been fun and really made me think a lot more about what I read. Thank you, too! 6mo

Another excellent story by Morrison ❤️ Beloved (the movie) seemed like a ghost story, but the book relayed how it was so much more than that. I plan on rewatching the movie, while it‘s fresh, to see what I may have missed.
I love how deep she delves into character backstories, bringing everything together in the end.
The pain of slavery and its eternal wounds is heartbreaking and she conveyed this hurt so well.

BookNAround I‘ve never seen the movie because I just can‘t imagine how they even come close to doing this brutally beautiful book justice. 7mo
NikkiM5 @BookNAround yes they tried but I agree its impossible to do it justice. I see it‘s available on Prime. It‘s 3 hours 😳 I forgot it was so long. 7mo
