Jane Austen's novels do not age. Though they are of their time they are also timeless, providing compelling and convincing depictions of the relations between parents and their children, between siblings, friends and rivals, and between husbands, wives and lovers.Ironic, comic and unfailingly wise, these romances - for they are all love stories, as well as marriage stories - are dazzlingly written tales of spirited heroines refusing to accept their allotted role in life. But it is in the stories' sharp and witty prose, whose style has been much emulated, that Austen proves herself matchless.'Tell us wisely and wittily about the nature of romantic entanglements and the follies of being human.' Nigella Lawson'You're drawn into the story, and you come out the other end, and you know you've seen something great in action.' J. K. Rowling

Long time no see @ Litsy but I have a question! What‘s the best month to read Jane Austen ?! I‘ve made it to adulthood without reading a single one of her texts and I‘m finally ready !

I stopped by this cool little book store in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They had a great selection + collectors editions. They also had lots of Harry Potter stuff, and I got the above Jane Austen bumper sticker 😎🙃♥️
@CrowCAH Have you been here?

CrowCAH No, I have not been there. Perhaps a road trip day will need to be planned! 1mo
HOTPock3tt @CrowCAH It took about an hour to get here 😅 but I was in the area anyway. It was surprisingly awesome!! ☺️ 1mo

Be careful ordering from Thriftbooks!! I ordered what was pictured as a box set on their site and I recieved just the single book. I knew when I ordered it seemed too good of a deal, the actual description was vague but I was thinking I'd at least get some version of a box set or at the least a pretty book from the set pictured but I got 1 kinda ugly/a tad beat up book 😕

jillrhudy Some Modern Library books with that cover and title go for $40-50 online. 2mo
Maude @jillrhudy I did see that, there is a better copy of the book I received on Ebay for $48 but my copy looks like coffee splattered on it and it has small punctures like it was stabbed with fork maybe 🤔 Its not horribly noticable but I would assume a collector would take issue with it. 2mo
hes7 I‘ve had pretty good luck getting refunds from Thriftbooks when the books I receive don‘t match what I thought I bought. 2mo

Oh my word, what a weekend! I met my sister in Louisville to attend our first Jane Austen Festival, and it was AMAZING. I wasn't expecting the level of commitment and quality that went into everything. Most people were dressed up impeccably, with high quality costumes and incredible details. The lectures and vendors were phenomenal, and we went to Regency beauty and perfume workshops that blew our minds. I will definitely be back next year!

P.S. Happy Easter, Litsy Friends!

I‘ve been wanting to try and read some Jane Austen, but have no idea which book I should start with. Any recommendations?

Librarybelle My favorite is Pride and Prejudice, which is probably her most well known. Persuasion is my next favorite, and it‘s way different from her other books - more somber, more reflective, and in some ways more mature. 7mo
JackOBotts I love Pride & Prejudice. If you‘re a fan of the movie Clueless, I‘d recommend Emma (in which the movie is based). I reread Emma recently and found myself picturing the Clueless cast, which was helpful. 🤣 7mo
Naj Either Emma or Pride and Prejudice. 7mo
See All 8 Comments
Kenziejo @Librarybelle @JackOBotts @Naj Thanks for the recommendations guys! It looks like I‘ll start with Pride and Prejudice then. ☺️ 7mo
Naj @Kenziejo Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 7mo
JackOBotts Enjoy! It‘s a truth universally acknowledged that you cant go wrong with Jane Austen. (See what I did there, @Naj & @Librarybelle 😉🤓) 7mo
Librarybelle @JackOBotts 😂 So good! 7mo

kitabi_keeda @sudi it's in the blurb......seems true though ....."Calm and contemplative, you need someone who shares your desire to lie in a hammock in the Russian countryside, drink champagne, and think about the meaning of life. I pondered all day about #inspiration . What inspires me? And then Jane Austen came to mind. Since I read Pride and Prejudice for the first time nearly 20 years ago, I‘ve devoured whatever I can about Jane. She inspires me every day with her words and her ideas. She was so strong and humorous, choosing a path that was frowned upon for women and yet looking for a way to earn a basic income. What Would Jane Do?? #gratitude30

Austen fans - I need your help!

So far I own Jane Austen‘s novels and other stories in German but I would like to own them in English too. The trouble is: There are so many beautiful editions that I cannot decide on one.

Which English editions of her novels do you think are the most beautiful?

Feel free to tag other Austen fans too 😅.

wanderinglynn That is such a hard question! Because so many beautiful editions! But my fave of P&P that I own is this one: https://amzn.to/2ycqWo4 and then I also love this clothbound 7-book set (which I haven‘t yet gotten, but so want): https://amzn.to/2QCeSU0 13mo

There is a Jane Austen Pineapple Appreciation Society!? ?
The article further says, Alejandra Carles-Tolra's photo series "Where We Belong" documents days in the lives of these 'Janeites' as they go for walks, jump fences, or just doze, all in Regency paraphernalia. Here's another article to know more - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2BWwF9q094Tp8mC0MTvDfRS/the-jane-austen...
