Book Lovers | Emily Henry
post image
Pickpick

I think this is my favorite Emily Henry so far. Loved that this book was really two love stories, and I was just as invested in the sisters one as the romantic one.

rretzler Not my normal type of book, but I read it last year and enjoyed it more than I expected! I probably need to read more by this author. 1w

The Drowning Tree | Carol Goodman
post image
Pickpick

Right now all I want to read are stories with all the gothic tropes and I happened to unearth this from a pile from some long-ago used bookstore haul. The setting is the Hudson River, with a cloistered women's college, a mental institution, and the ruins of an abandoned estate. Involves lots of art, Greek mythology, old family secrets, a murder mystery.

The Deep | Alma Katsu
post image
Pickpick

Alma Katsu handles the subgenre 'historical fiction with a supernatural twist' so well. This is a dual timeline story of voyages on the Titanic and the Britannic, its sister ship, when it was used as a hospital during WWI. I enjoyed the morally ambiguous characters, strange occurrences, and knowing that people are doomed but waiting to see exactly how it plays out.

Last night I went to a release event for Dracula Daily. Matt Kirkland, who lives in my town, gave one of my favorite author talks I've ever attended, laughed so hard I cried. The library also gave a free copy of the Penguin Dracula to every attendee, as it's been chosen as the Community Read. I'll have to try to fit this in somehow this fall. 😂 I 🖤 the pin.

A sweet, easy read. The first half is an imagining of Frederick's falling in love with and losing Anne back in 1806; the second a retelling of the events of Persuasion from Wentworth's perspective.

It's a low pick for me. The author doesn't measure up to Austen (not expected of course!). I enjoyed the second half more, following JA's plot and using her dialogue.
