#BookReport

Girl: 4.5 🌟 I have one small quibble about one scene that didn‘t ring true. See spoiler comment below
Snowflake: 4🌟
HTWIP: 5🌟 Will definitely be on my #NYWD list for next year. #Bookspin
H: perfectly portrays what happened when women lose out due circumstances beyond their control in 17th century London and need to survive. Really loved the characters 4🌟 #NYWD

Catching up on buddy reads today.

thewallflower0707 I‘m glad you liked H ☺️. I thought it was very refreshing to have, at the same time, a well-researched historical novel and a female character, who just made the best of her life and actually ended up happy and with friends 😍 1d
Kdgordon88 The scene where Big Momma goes on about hard work and never giving up on dreams to Adunni seemed out of placed. She did not for a minute care if Adunni had dreams. 1d
Cinfhen I think you‘re probably right, but it‘s nice to imagine/ believe that Big Momma might of had an once of compassion. She was a terrible bitter person 1d
See All 6 Comments
RaeLovesToRead @Kdgordon88 @Cinfhen I think Daré was trying to make Big Momma a moral grey area - abused turns abuser, successful woman in a man's world - but the violence that she meted out made any attempts at redemption seem completely ridiculous and out of place. It might have worked better to tone down the abuse and give her some nicer qualities. Still, I gave it 5 stars because it was an incredibly absorbing book. 1d

Today‘s plan is the tagged audio book while doing chores, finishing The Strange Adventures of H on kindle, reading our #SundayBuddyRead section in The Other Side of Midnight and then back to the tagged for audiopuzzling.

#BookReport: Tagged was good for #AAM and encouraged my desire to use our local farmer markets more. OLS for #NYWD was fun. Things Fall Apart for #Booked2022 gave me the same bitter taste I get when reading stories of how white Christians came, saw and destroyed cultures.

Not sure about Snowflake but at 32% I need to commit or let it go and just started How the Word on audio.

I‘m caught up on my buddy reads so today‘s focus is on Louding.

My first #BookReport of the year. I pulled both Winter and December off the DNF pile as I was between books and couldn‘t decide what to read. Small Things is 5 🌟 Finishing Winter didn‘t change my mind. The rest were ok.

I read more books in 2021 than ever before. My original goal was 125 which seemed a stretch so I changed it to 175 which I was sure would doom me to failure but somehow I made that, too.

May was an excellent reading month with 19 books read. All but one were 4 🌟 or better. The Librarian of Auschwitz was 5 🌟 while the writing may not have been perfect it is a story of resistance and resilience and in those stories there is hope when everything around them said hope was futile.
