When I am dead, my dearest,/sing no sad songs for me;/plant thou no roses at my head,/nor shady cypress tree:

be the green grass above me/with showers and dew drop wet;/and if thou wilt, remember,/and if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,/I shall not feel the rain;/I shall not hear the nightingale/sing on, as if in pain:/and dreaming through the twilight/that doth not rise nor set,/haply I may remember,/and haply may forget.

Another day of sneaking in reading between games. It‘s so windy though I‘m going to have to switch to kindle after this chapter.

BarkingMadRead @bookwormjillk it‘s the worst, I can‘t decide either 🤣 1w
Ruthiella Sweet of Bob to offer. And I like how Maggie realized that it wasn‘t the money so much as his friendship and reliance he was offering and which they could accept. 1w
ElizaMarie @Ruthiella ♥️♥️♥️ i agree 7d
Leftcoastzen I felt Maggie‘s pain looking at the empty spot where the bookcase used to be 😱isn‘t interesting that often people with very little offer to share what little they have while people with so much don‘t offer a thing. 6d

mcctrish This family is a toxic dump 1w
Bookwormjillk I can see not wanting to bail them out with money- they seem bad at that. But give the kid a job for Pete‘s sake! 1w

Clare-Dragonfly They are all so mean! I wish it had occurred to Tom to mention that he‘s good at drawing, especially things like buildings. I bet that could get him a good start. 1w
Leftcoastzen Much better to have less family than a family like this ! Poor Tom trying to do what he can while listening to Uncle belittling his education. 1w
TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - I felt the same way! I get that you don't want to hand a pile of money to people who have proven that they aren't going to use it wisely, but Tom is genuinely trying to make good and start providing for his mom and sister, and I thought it was dreadful the way his uncle just blew him off. 1w
ElizaMarie This chapter felt very current to me. It's like kiddos get an education and then can't get a job with their education. I know it's not the same, but it got me thinking about how some college courses/majors do not translate to the working world. I feel so bad for Tom - also this #TheirFamilySucks ! 7d

Mehso-so

This was my least favourite Forster. I didn't feel attached to the characters. I read his exchange of letters with another author in this regard, and although I understand Forsters motivation to not fully show us Philip from the beginning, it does create a disconnection between the reader and the character and by the time I got to know him I didn't care much for him. The descriptions of the settings, where Forster usually thrives, ⬇️

nanuska_153 were not as beautiful this time. I feel bad giving a So-So to Forster, because probably if it had been written to another author my expectations would have been lower and it would be a pick, but there, I'm feeling ruthless. 1w

@Read4Life Thanks for the tag -

1. I keep $20 in my car at all times. Mostly for gas, but lately, it's for ice cream money (there is a seasonal shop opened now that only takes cash).

2. I would say the family is kinda wealthy, and are not about sharing the wealth, but holding it over others. The MC family is poor poor dirt poor and now they are facing their downfall.
