Slowly going through this informative “cook” book, chapter by chapter and learning new things. I should try to apply to everyday cooking…but not in a hurry now.

The downside to having an immense cookbook collection (besides space issues) is that often, cookbooks sometimes get stuck on a shelf & don‘t get read & appreciated. This was the case with this book which I bought after it came out based thanks to NPR & Saveur but never really read until it was a December book for #Naturalitsy #MidwinterSolace What a mistake! I just rated it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & it ⬇️
I really enjoyed this book! I want to buy a physical copy of it so I can refer to it easily when cooking. I learned so much about salt and acid that I started to implement the tips into my cooking. I also listened to the audio while reading the ebook and it was so much fun! Samin Nosrat narrates it and she is a great storyteller!

Thank you @Eggs for the #WondrousWednesday tag 🤗
1️⃣ I increased my Goodreads goal a few times starting with 88 books & ending at 135 & as of today I am at 160 so yay! 🎉 I also finished the #OUABC 40-book & #BOTM challenges & did all 4 Kindle challenges throughout the year.🎉📚🎉
2️⃣ Not so far but the tagged book & Bookshops & Bonedust may come close.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟
3️⃣ Most excited for Foul Heart Hunstman for #ChloeGongReadalong & the new ⬇️

1. I didn‘t set a numeric goal this year, but I did pretty well with challenges. I completed #pantone2023 and #booked2023 I read most of my #bookspin / #doublespin and #authoramonth books. I did abandon #roll100 fairly early, & eventually bailed on my year-long buddy reads of Clarissa & Les Miserables
2. 5⭐️ reads for December were Sing Unburied Sing and the tagged book
3. Hoping to reread Lilian Boxfish for New Year‘s
My #bookspin this month was the #naturalitsy buddy read, and it‘s been great! In the intro Samin brags that reading her book is more like attending a cooking class than reading a cookbook, and that claim is totally born out. But what impressed me most is that she‘s a teacher who teaches to beginners and experts at the same time which is such a rare talent! I learned a lot from this, and I‘ll definitely use it as a reference book going forward.
Someone (I think from the Eastern European side of my family) taught me to soak raw onion in water to lessen the bite, which is totally a good trick, but the number of times I‘ve heard Samin say to macerate onion in vinegar or citrus in the last few recipes… I can taste the difference in my head without even having done it yet! This one is going to stick with me! #naturalitsy

Fabulous book! I‘m not much of a cook, but this author makes me want to pull out my apron and spend more time in the kitchen! Highly recommend the audio—the author‘s enthusiasm is infectious! I had to go out and buy the print book. It‘s a wonderful reference!

Our category of Food produced a tie, so I've split the 2 winners over December and January. I'll post reading schedules nearer the time of starting. I appreciate December is a busy time, which is why I chose the cookbook first. Might produce some delicious meals and might improve your cooking. Ahem 🙈

My husband and daughter got me this cookery chunkster for Christmas and I'm thrilled to finally own this as I've coveted it for a long time. My sister exclaimed, "But you don't like cooking!" ? I was forced to explain that liking cooking and liking cookery books are completely separate things!
I got myself a birthday present at Target, and picked up the #NaturaLitsy buddy read at the library. I don‘t know that I‘ll do the read, but I thought I‘d try it.
#2021Book118
I am never going to be a chef, or even a good cook. But, just as I love to watch shows about cooking, I love to read about cooking. I don't plan to ever put anything I learn into practice, but that doesn't mean I don't want to learn about it.
#CuriousCovers Day 26 #Food
The was part of a 3 for 2 book deal a few months or so ago. This is for my retirement goal of expanding my cooking abilities….hope I live that long 😂
I admit it. I like cookery books more than I like actual cooking. I probably spend more time BUYING cookery books than I spend cooking! I've wanted the tagged book for a while & it will probably be my next purchase.
What are your favourite cookery books, fellow Littens?
I really like this cookbook. It‘s readable and lovely and full of good information that has improved my cooking. I give it 5 Stars. Samin Nosrat‘s voice is so strong and fun to read. It really is like watching the Netflix series based on this cookbook. And the illustrations are just fantastic. So it totally makes sense to me that this book is highly rated on GoodReads. I‘m looking forward to re-reading and trying the recipes in the coming months.
I'm posting one book per day from the ever growing unread stacks in my personal library. No description or explanation, just books I own and plan to read. #tbr
Day 68 (Kindle edition)
This is my baby (book and cat, I suppose). If you like cooking or eating, buy this. Mark it up. Study it like a holy text. I‘m excited to put more of her techniques to work in my own cooking. And the illustrations are GORGEOUS.
I love this🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍I am so excited!!!
Thank you so much PATRICIA!!!
However I don‘t know Patricia V or U ? Handle on Litsy ... @candority ?

I‘ve been dying to get my hands on this book but so far I‘ve just had to settle for the Netflix show, what a treat it was! I delighted in seeing the author Samin enjoy food with such gusto!
This was brilliant, as expected. It also made me realize that, though I love cooking & cooking from cookbooks, I never actually read cookbooks. Do you have any cookbooks you‘ve actually read & enjoyed? I feel like I need more of that in my life.
Does anyone else think that little bottle on the left is labeled LSD? 🤪
Yum ...those are califlower and mashed potatoes, lard stuffing and buttermilk soaked chicken with corn that was also soaked in buttermilk sugar and salt 👩🏽🍳
Chicken all the yummmm
Hubby finally took the hint and gave me this as a Christmas gift. I‘ve only been asking for it for two years😂 As much as I loved the tv series, I already think the book is better. The writing is wonderful. I‘m sooo tired, but I don‘t want to put this down.
Hubby hit the jackpot with this one! I'm so excited to learn more of the cooking basics that I feel I should already know. I'm just 50 pages in & have already learned a ton!
Merry Christmas, Littens!

Verdict on two similar cake recipes: Samin Nosrat is the winner by a slight margin with Lori‘s Chocolate Midnight Cake. The biggest difference in the end result has to do with prep method. Crazy Chocolate Cake is done in one bowl so it‘s very quick to make. Light-coloured crumbs showed that mixing was not thoroughly done. It rose higher, was slightly sweeter and less moist than LMCC. LMCC used more bowls & implements; results are worth it.
Kitchen science experiment today: comparing two similar recipes. My mom‘s Crazy Chocolate Cake (left) and Samin Nosrat‘s Lori‘s Chocolate Midnight Cake. Verdict must wait until this evening, after the layers have been made into a birthday cake.
I didn't expect to enjoy an audio book about food so much, but this was fascinating! I plan to buy a physical copy so that I can refer back to it when I'm cooking.
I made the buttermilk chicken
Yummmm
Watched this TWICE on Netflix 👩🏽🍳
Now I need the cookbook 🤣 “need”
I would never have found this book without Litsy, so thank you to everyone who reviewed it - I absolutely loved this one! I am not an instinctive cook, so the way this book breaks down cooking to four basic elements really appealed to me. Definitely see myself referencing this one regularly.
Bonus: picture of my messy pantry!! 😁
#BookReport - This week got a little crazy, but I still managed to wedge some reading in!! I read the first two books from the David Raker series, but decided not to continue on. While decent mysteries - and I like Raker as a character - both books were about a completely sadistic psychopath and just... sometimes people who disappear haven't been kidnapped by someone who likes to chop people up, you know? I bailed on The Castle in the Attic, ⬇

Today is so hot and humid- the blistering kind. The kind that has my face in a fan. That kind that has sweat rolling off me. Despite all that, cooking from this book tonight. Just her basic pasta sauce. Garden tomatoes, basil, lettuce for salad from my neighbor‘s garden.
Saw her show when it came out a few years ago. She was wonderful!
Cooked my steak tonight using this as a guide and it paid off!
Learning some new things. Can't wait to start cooking 🙂
“As American poet Mary Oliver wrote, ‘To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.‘ She must be a great cook. Indeed, the best cooks I‘ve ever met— whether in home or professional kitchens—are careful observers.”
#bookmail from yesterday 📚📬 I am so excited to get this book as I keep picking it up at Costco & putting it back down. I got a $20 credit for products sold & shipped Amazon for listening to 3 books on Audible through March & it is finally mine for about a $1 for the taxes.🤗
I geek out over the science of flavors & cooking! 🤓🥄
