Bailedbailed

I‘m quitting this book exactly halfway through. It‘s just giving me bad feelings. It also gave me mean dreams last night.
What a bummer of a novel.
I enjoy dark Pan retellings but this was not it. This book felt clinical and stale and sad.
There is no magic or beauty to this retelling, no feeling. No fantasy element to the darkness.
I‘m proud of myself for not forcing myself to finish it.
⭐️⭐️

ICantImReading I‘m sorry it didn‘t work for you, either 😔 I think it was a good decision to bail if you weren‘t enjoying it, I kind of thought it got worse as it went along 😬 4w
reading_rainbow @ICantImReading good to know I didn‘t miss anything, I tried skimming the second half but it was just slow and the characters were really one dimensional and the whole plot in general was a mess. One sad stale mess lol 4w

I love the plot of this book, any kind of horror involving plants/nature is awesome to me. That being said, I hated all the characters in this book. I cared nothing about any of them and there was a few parts in this book that were weirdly sexual and it just seemed so ridiculous. Trapped at gun point, starvation, self mutilation, amputation, stress, fear, death but yeah you got the headspace to entertain the idea of sex 🙄

What a surprise this book was. I would have read it sooner had I known it was going to be so haunting and beautiful. I really enjoyed this telling of Neverland, centered around Tiger Lily and told through Tinks eyes. I‘m very picky with my Peter Pan retellings and this not only is one of the best I‘ve read but one of the best books I‘ve read this year.
A quiet kind of lush. dark and sad and sweet. Very well written

Liatrek This has been on my TBR for a long time. Will bump up the list. 1mo

I will unravel here.
I am in a waiting room without end, without location, without time or place. If I go outside, I die before I get any answers. I exist only in a theoretical way, like a point on a coordinate plane. I am the simulation.

I don‘t know if it‘s because I‘m pregnant or if it‘s because we‘re house hunting in this horrible market or both but I‘m drained and in a reading slump and reading is my only source of entertainment at the moment, I‘m asking Litsy for help, I‘m going book shopping today, can I get recommendations?? Something easy that doesn‘t need to many brain cells? Maybe Dark fantasy/ lgbt/ contemporary, horror, anything! Maybe something not so long? Idk😢

Interesting read, bit bleak and nothing really happens. a lot of the dialogue was in German. I can check this off my TBR ✔️

julesG Untranslated dialogue? Why? 2mo
reading_rainbow @julesG I‘m not sure why the author made that choice, the book is written in English but idle chit-chat and small conversations between characters would be in German. It was a bit taxing tbh 2mo

Quick read and super intriguing. But not a lot of detail which was frustrating. She would mention something really interesting but not elaborate on it and it left you wanting more.
Also, nothing like the movie. The movie creates plot and drama, this book has neither of those things really. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
