A very old book about St. Nick…author is Edric Vredenburg, no publication date, not in Litsy database. The art is beautiful.

6th December #WinterReadathonDailyChallenge #WinterReadathon

December 6th is the Feast Day of St. Nicholas, the original basis for the jolly, bearded, purveyor of festive gifts we know of as Santa Claus.

Let‘s be creative with St. Nicholas and Santa Claus and do posts today connected to either, whether it be a picture of Santa, a book with him on the cover or anything else.

20 points for any posts.

BarbaraBB How nice. That‘s a traditional holiday too where I live. Do you celebrate on December 5 as well? 2y
maich @BarbaraBB St. Nicholas day is on December 6 and he brings gifts at night when we are going to sleep😆 sometimes on December 5 at evening come a man dressed as Krampus but not every year. 2y
BarbaraBB That is great! In Holland he arrives by boat from Spain at the end of November. He stays until December 6 (his birthday) and brings gifts at night indeed (through the chimney) for the kids. On his own birthday there‘s an evening filled with gifts for everyone! 2y
maich @BarbaraBB wow😍 That's awesome. So many adventures and celebrating 2y
BarbaraBB It‘s especially for the kids. They believe “Sinterklaas” is real and comes especially for them. Does that differ from Slovenia? 2y
maich @BarbaraBB It is different. Our come from Balkan and he died on December 6. He was a bishop of Myra. 2y
BarbaraBB Wow. It must have been the same historical person, interpreted by different people in different countries in different ways don‘t you think? I might Google a bit more! 2y
maich @BarbaraBB I agree with you. Maybe at the begining it was the same but then different people from different region/country in history change it. I googled it and found different versions of the 'legend' 2y
StayCurious I love learning about different holiday celebrations! 2y
maich @StayCurious Me too. Always check post from different people when they have holidays😊 2y

Here are my finished Saint Nicholas biscuits (stars, hearts, houses and Christmas trees), in front of a song book opened at the page of La légende de Saint Nicolas, a famous song about three children killed and salt-cured by a butcher. Fortunately, Saint Nicholas brings them back to life 👍

Dilara No idea if I can glean extra points from this post - I already counted the points for Shared/Attempted Festive Recipe yesterday, when I posted a picture of a raw biscuit - but I still wanted to share. 2y
StayCurious Give yourself an extra 10 points because they look yummy! 2y

I am baking biscuits/cookies for Saint Nicholas's feast on the 6th. I usually do it on the day, but not this time: I am visiting my daughter this weekend and I want to bring her some because, with a newborn to look after, I doubt she'll have time to make her own...

Recipe below

#WinterGames2021 #FestiveRecipe #TeamGameSleighers

@StayCurious

Dilara Gâteaux de la Saint-Nicolas

250g flour
120g brown sugar (Demerara, soft brown, or a mixture of the two)
pinch of salt
1 tsp baking powder
120g butter
1 egg
milk - a couple of tbsp if necessary for the dough to hold

Mix the ingredients, roll into a ball and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Roll out the dough and cut out shapes.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, gas mark 5-6.

We typically eat them plain, but you can decorate them with icing if you want.
