Having read this so shortly after Our Kids: The America Dream in Crisis was a #Powerful combination. If you aren't screwed by the opportunity gap in childhood, you're pretty likely to be screwed by the bottom-line mentality of the corporate world.

Esther Markstrom and her artist mother have always been proud of their ancestor, painter Francisco Vella. They even run a small museum and gallery dedicated to raising awareness of his scandalously underappreciated work.

EadieB But when Esther reconnects with her former art history professor, she finds her once-solid family history on shaky ground as questions arise about Vella's greatest work--a portrait entitled The Lady with the Dark Hair .
In 1879, Catalan orphan-turned-fugitive Viviana Torrens has found sanctuary serving in the home of an aging artist in Southern France.
27m
EadieB It is in his studio that she meets Francisco Vella, a Gibraltarian merchant who sells artists' pigments. When her past catches up to her, she is compelled to pose as Vella's sister and join him on his travels or be deported back to Spain to stand trial. Along the way she will discover that the many parts she has been playing in order to hide her identity have far-reaching implications she never could have foreseen. 26m

This dual-timeline story from award-winning author Erin Bartels takes readers from the sleepy Midwest to the sultry Mediterranean on a relentless search for truth, identity, and the freedom to follow one's dreams.
I have read every book that Erin Bartels has written and have found them all different but very well written.

EadieB . This one is about painters and art about The Lady with the Dark Hair. This is a dual timeline-story that takes us to the Mediterranean. I found this book very interesting as I had no idea that Erin was an artist. I find her very intriguing and do look forward to what comes next from her. If you like art and painting I‘m sure you would love this book. 25m
EadieB Pick it up and read it as you will be surprised as I was that the book is actually well worth the read!

When Juan Cabrillo fails to capture the leader of Mexico‘s most dangerous drug cartel and loses an Oregon crew member in the process, he‘s determined to get revenge. Little does he know that the explosion he just narrowly escaped was merely the latest flash of violence from a machine of war that has existed for decades, dating from the bloodiest episode in Armenia‘s history.

EadieB Cabrillo‘s Corporation of mercenaries may have finally met its match in The Pipeline—a criminal syndicate passed down from father to son across generations. A group that sits with its finger on the trigger of a torpedo so deadly it could level entire cities. With millions of innocent civilians hanging in the balance, the Oregon‘s crew must unravel a tangle of drug-smuggling routes 2h
EadieB and international conspiracies spanning from the Aegean Sea to the Indian Ocean, putting their lives on the line to find the weapon before its countdown hits zero.
This was a good book but a bit different spin than the other books in the Oregon files. It was written by Mike Maden but not with Clive Cussler. This changed the whole voice of the novel and I found it a bit distracting while reading the book.
2h
EadieB The characters of the crew did not work together and I did miss this in the book. Hopefully Mike Maden will correct this in his next writing of the book. I think the books should be a bit consistent with the other books as this book feels like a different series. I realize that it must be difficult to write a book following the author‘s death but feel like it‘s important to get it right or start a new series. 2h

EadieB Sorry for being so critical but this is just a suggestion to help the author with his next endeavor of writing the next book. 2h
TheSpineView Bummer. Hopefully your next read will be better. 2h
EadieB @TheSpineView I hope so as I really do like this series! 2h

This one has been on my want-to-reread list forever, so having it be a #Roll100 pick this month gave me that final nudge! While some parts of this story feel a little cluttered, overall it's just such a fun little story with some delightfully memorable characters. Feiffer's illustrations really add so much.

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage This book is one of my childhood favorites 11h
Ruthiella I only first read this a few years ago as an adult. I remember it being in the school library in elementary school but I never picked it up. I think I thought it was about math. 😆 10h

Despite the cover blurb, I don't think I would term this one as “nail-biting“. However, it did keep me turning the pages. This is a sort of character-study thriller, with a slow reveal of backstories and motivations, exploring both a current and past case. While I did have some mixed feelings about some aspects, overall I enjoyed it and actually reserved the second book at the library. 😁

TheAromaofBooks Great #LMPBC pick @Jerdencon !!! @bookandbedandtea I'll mail this one sometime next week!!!! @robinb 14h

Here‘s how my bingo board is looking now. I‘ve finished all of my ARCs that I had to read this month. I don‘t know if I‘m going to get a bingo or not. I‘m going to start reading the trilogy on my #readyourkindle list and I‘ll see if I have time to read any of my #bookspin books. I‘ve earned 6 mood reads for my #bookspinbingo list next month because I read 6 ARCs this month. That‘s my reward for next month.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Looking great!! 15h

Here‘s my review for a book I just DNF‘d. It‘s ridiculous how long the second chapter was. I was still reading the second chapter today at the park when I was walking my dog and the investigation for the murder is still going on so I decided that I had enough.

Release date: 4/29/24

I admit I was intrigued by the Murdaughs. I watched the whole trail on CourtTV. Of course, when I found out about this book, I had to read it. It's the memoir of the reporter that knew something was off from the beginning Mandy Matney.

Though this book.has had mixed reviews, I liked it. I gave it 3.5⭐ because there were parts that got a little bogged down. If you were interested in the cases against Alex, give the book a try.
