Breakfast of Champions
Breakfast of Champions: A Novel | Kurt Vonnegut
In Breakfast of Champions, one of Kurt Vonnegut’s  most beloved characters, the aging writer Kilgore Trout, finds to his horror that a Midwest car dealer is taking his fiction as truth. What follows is murderously funny satire, as Vonnegut looks at war, sex, racism, success, politics, and pollution in America and reminds us how to see the truth. From the Trade Paperback edition.

This was my second book by Vonnegut, and I‘m really starting to enjoy his work. It‘s actually really refreshing to read because the content can be so unexpected, compared to what I‘ve been reading recently. 10/10 would recommend.

Since it appears that #theDodo was a caricature of the author himself, I present what was most likely Kurt Vonnegut‘s alter ego in several of his books: The highly prolific but utterly unheard-of sci-fi author Kilgore Trout.

Another book that I finished in a bubble bath. I will confess I started re-reading expecting this to be a "pan" because of my last experience. I was able to follow along the plot a lot better than last time and took more of the story in, which explains why I both finished reading it and rated it higher than "pan". Not my favourite, but not the worst either.

Vonnegut has a humorous, quite ironic view of the US, illustrated by #antihero Dwayne Hoover (a rich but mentally ill Pontignac dealer), about to meet pulp SF writer Kilgore Trout in the lobby of his local Holiday Inn. Also, Mr Rosewater makes his appearance, as does Mr Vonnegut himself.
Last but not least there are many illustrations and statistics of penis sizes! And a lot of (in the end anti-) racism. Highly original! #Booked2018 #1001books

As I settle in bed to start reading, it hit me that it's been almost A YEAR since I decided to start Project Purge. I can still imagine the day I sorted all my books. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't make it through them all - pretty sure this was my New Years resolution - but I'm proud of what I've done! (And you can't tell from the donation pile because I donated a bunch already 😊)

This will be my next read and, honestly, I'm not optimistic about it. I read this about 3-4 years ago and was so excited then because I loved Slaughterhouse-Five, and I just could not get into this one and was so disappointed. But as part of Project Purge, I'm going to give this one more try.

Finished the audio of this today. I‘ve read it previously and loved it. I don‘t love the audio. It was narrated buy John Malkovich and it annoyed the crap out of me. Usually I like Malkovich but not here. I also got annoyed with the use of some language. When I read I can skip those words or change them in my head, but I can‘t I hear them. So I‘ll make the book a pick but skip the Malkovich audio edition.

If you're wondering how the little guy is doing, well, Breakfast went to the vet again this week. He was very good about having his xrays. He has a dental problem that will need surgery, but for now he's getting painkillers every day. Vet says probably for his entire life, even once he's had surgery. But he's cheerful, energetic, excitable and affectionate, and he takes his meds like a little champ. 💙 I think he'll be okay.

My final read of 2017 was a brilliant satire of American society which worryingly written 45 years ago still read very true today. Vonnegut never ceases to amaze me with his imagination and playfulness and i laughed out loud at parts including his cartoons. This is my fourth of his books and i can't wait to read more. This was not quite breakfast but my drink yesterday post shopping, i left my wife and dtr to spend a book token.

My favorite thing about this book is how Vonnegut himself emerges as an actual character, serving as the narrative voice. That, plus Kilgore Trout, and the hilariously weird drawings.

This was a #reread via #audio and I must say John Malkovich was perfect. I think his is the voice I‘ll hear in my head while reading #KV going forward. The sketches are a bit awkward in the audio version so it‘s helpful to have a physical copy handy.

UnidragonFrag @britt_brooke I think I get it now, but I think I want to re-read it. I find it funny that Vonnegut rated this book the second lowest of all his books 😂 2y
