A Locked Tomb read through podcast used this word on the episode I listened to yesterday, and I knew I needed to post it today. Such a good October word.

I didn‘t really realize it until today, but grimace is sort of a weird word to say. Try saying it a few times and see if you agree 😁 And who could forget lovable Grimace (but why did they give him that name?) of McDonald‘s fame! #weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords
There are sooo many viable options these days…
And also — I ❤️ German. It‘s so strangely and perfectly specific.

I‘ve been trying to make space for hanging with friends as we start heading into the months of sadness and darkness (yay seasonal affective disorder 🙃)
10/10 Highly recommend just sitting and chatting. 💕

I came across this word in a beautiful descriptive phrase in my reading and promptly went down a rabbit hole of Renaissance art
I have never been more proud to be 13% Scottish. 🥰

I read the word “caprice,” and thought 💭 it sounded musical - lo and behold, it is! So, I figured I‘d include “capriccio” as well. Wasn‘t there also a car called a Caprice? Anyway, it‘s early, I‘m rambling 😂 enjoy!

Fall is here! The temperature is in the 70s, the sky is gray, the leaves are changing! I‘m so ready to go for a walk. 🍂🍁🍂

Solipsism, solipsist, solipsistic. Say those words ten times fast 😂😂 Other tidbits: solipsism is also a term for a specific philosophy, a symptom of certain mental illnesses, and apparently can become a syndrome after periods of extreme isolation. And yes, this is Narcissus. The two are different but I thought it was close enough 😁 #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

Oh, how true this allusion is.
@Amiable I‘ve been waiting for Wednesday! Thanks for putting this word in my atmosphere. Sadly, it‘s a frequent state of being for me these days. #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday
IT IS SEPTEMBER! WHY IS IT STILL IN THE 90s?!? 🫠

Every wondered about the origin behind the word, Wednesday? And why isn‘t it pronounced Wed-nes-day, so weird. Anyway, here you go! I always thought the days of the week were all named for Roman gods - nope! #weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords

A main reason I loved being in education was that pretty much every year everybody started out as a tabula rosa; everyone had a chance to start over. 💚
I took this picture in the Wigan North Western railway station when I was visiting last week! There was a whole alphabet of phrases, and I wish I had had the time to take pictures of all of them!

I decided to keep it light for #weirdwordwednesday. So, instead of trying to explain how socialism and communism are not the same thing (😅), I present the echidna. Because, in this horrible dumpster fire we are currently living in, who doesn‘t want to look at and learn about cute, unique animals? 😁

I adore mythological stories.
I read about the Basque arborglyphs in #atreeaday and then, about the Pando aspen in Maggie, etc… (finished last night). Simply put: trees are amazing. #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

Did you know (I didn‘t) that the cashew is not a nut? It‘s the seed of a cashew apple, classified as a “drupe.” The book, “A Tree a Day,” inspired me to research this - there is a page devoted to The Cashew of Pirangi in Brazil - it‘s enormous! #naturalitsy #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

My #weirdwordwednesday pick! I remember discovering this word during a word game - maybe Words With Friends or similar - and always thought it was a bit silly sounding. This little googol mascot guy should have googly eyes, I think 😂 #weirdwords
This word came up in my last read (Saltwater 🙌🏻🙌🏻). It would be so fun to ride one of these! 😊

A day late, but here we go! 😊
A Ghanaian concept, the word is expanded into the proverb “se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi.”
Sankofa is the understanding that only by knowing your (personal, cultural, national) history can you know your current self, and know how to become better.
The concept feels particularly relevant right now.

This isn‘t the meaning I expected when looking up this word (stumbled upon recently when reading the AMAZING All the Sinners Bleed). But it‘s cool nonetheless! #weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords
My lilacs are blooming, my hydrangeas are up. And the roses are budding! I am so ready for spring.
This word also has a chemistry related definition, used to describe the process of a substance loosing moisture and turning into a fine powder, but I like the first one better.
